Why does he keep saying Lavon failed two tests....isn't  the four game suspension after the first offense? This guy seems to have it out for Lavon...

1st offense is a warning. 2nd offense is 4 game suspension. Connect the dots .......... Lavon needs to get his head screwed on straight and SOON!! Forget the aspects of pot. He needs to deal with the legalities and how it might impact his future.

Ah yes, the office chair crusade against marijuana. Great job, Kravitz! You fight the good fight! Keep that fish in the barrel.

Whether or not it's legal in the state or country is irrelevant. The NFL is a corporation. A billion dollar corporation at that. If it's against their rules to smoke pot, then you shouldn't do it or you will be punished accordingly....

Exactly. Whether you think or don't think pot should be legal has nothing at all with this. If you go to work for a company that has a rule "no facial hair", and then grow a mustache you can't very well complain when you get fired, and saying "there is no law against mustaches" is not going to change that.

The NFL has a rule against Pot use. Lavon obviously knows that because this was his second offense, not his first one. So... he knew it was against the rules. He knew what would happen if he was caught. He chose to do it anyway, and got caught. There isn't much more to say. Let's hope for his sake that he doesn't get cut, that he learns from this, and that there isn't a third offense.

I heard from people "in the know" that Lavon was at least 3'rd round talent but the weed was a known issue that kept many teams away.

I'm all for legalization...but until then you've got to play by the rules in order to keep your job. Of course, if he's jeopardizing his entire career and millions, I would guess that he's struggling to get it under control.

Anyway, I hope Lavon gets a handle on this problem and goes on to have the kind of career we know he's capable of. He's a great kid and one of the best to play football in Athens.

"you've got to play by the rules in order to keep your job." Well put.  Lavon has gifts/skills few possess.  He will decide if football is worth playing by the rules.  Choices.  Many of us not blessed with such gifts/skills often puzzle over the choices the gifted/skilled make.  There are plenty willing to keep their nose clean.  I am tired of hearing about NFL behavior issues.  I would be happy to see the league makes more examples of those who think rules are meant to be broken.  If Lavon pops positive again they can start with him.

If he can't play without weed, he should find something else to do, because weed is a no-no.

If he can't play without painkillers, he should talk to Brett Favre.  He had that problem and apparently licked it.

If he can't play without something else, he should get help.

So you're saying people don't use marijuana to self-medicate for pain?

Making excuses one problem at a time. Let's watch him use that excuse while defending the suspension the NFL gives him.

Unfortunately, Favre kicked it by transferring the pain to anyone who had to deal with his late career charade.

Getting to the top of his profession, then crashing down due to drugs. Maybe if he writes a book we can talk about how great of a story it is and how much we wish we could party with LaVon on BobcatAttack.

Colts | LaVon Brazill's spot not a given
Tue, 30 Jul 2013 09:01:04 -0700

Indianapolis Colts WR LaVon Brazill admitted he made a mistake in the offseason, and he now has a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy to start the season as a result. Brazill said he needs to decide between "money and marijuana." That isn't his only battle. He is also vying for the fourth receiver spot behind WRs Reggie Wayne, Darrius Heyward-Bey and T.Y. Hilton, so his roster spot isn't necessarily a given.

FANTASY TIP: Fantasy owners will want to avoid Brazill to start the season, even if he wins the No. 4 job, due to his four-game suspension. He has big-play ability, but with plenty of depth at the position, it will likely take an injury or two to open up a more prominent role for the former Ohio Bobcat.

Got to be proud of LaVon for facing his mistakes but i really would have preferred not to hear that the choice is between money and marijuana.  "With or without"  would be a better turn of a phrase, not to mention life direction, and leave the money angle out of it, please.  But then, I've been accused of being a geezer.

Everyone makes mistakes in their life. This is not Lavon's first, nor probably will be his last. As a youngster he was not a good student, and not eligible for high school sports, but overcame that, and became eligible for football his Senior year, and went on to play for Ohio, and I believe he graduated. Now he has made another mistake, but everything about his statement indicates that he has accepted responsibility, and that he will overcome this mistake as well, though sadly it may be with another team. I hope that at some time in the future he will be in a position to mentor youth about mistakes they can avoid, and what they can accomplish it they do avoid and overcome mistakes.

Lavon's career at Ohio was truly exemplary and he was a super role model.

Unfortunately it appears that the same can't be said for his NFL career just yet.  The cynical part of me says Lavon's sorry because this time, he can't play for 4 games and it may very well cost him a spot on an NFL roster.  This is not the first time he got caught.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but to receive a 4 game suspension the player has to have tested positive for drugs/PEDs THREE times by the NFL!  It's not a one-and-done deal.  The NFL gives players multiple chances.  So this is Lavon's third time in a year that he's been caught.  He can't say he hasn't been warned repeatedly.

Like others have said, what Lavon's done isn't the worst transgression in the world, that's for sure.  But when you've been told time and time again what you cannot do in your job and you still do it anyway, well.....

Browse back in the thread, and it says 4 games is for a 2d offense, not a third.

I'm typing this from an IPad so I don't know how to "cut and paste" on this thing, but as I read the NFLPA's Drug Policy, a violation while a player's in Stage 2 Intervention receives the 4 game suspension.

A player's 1st violation automatically enters them into Stage 1.  A 2nd violation while that player is in the Stage 1 level automatically results in them entering Stage 2.  If they test positive while in Stage 2 (which would now be their 3rd violation overall) results in the 4 game suspension.  That's how I interpret the drug policy, which is on the NFLPA's website.
