I hope any plans involving upgrading Peden involve knocking everything to the ground and starting from scratch. And while we're dreaming I'll take 35K seat backs with the south end open and option to add another 10-15K to the student section when/if needed.

I doubt that there will be much movement toward Peden upgrades or expansion until it becomes more clear about any possible realignment of college football.  Then, if Ohio ends up in that new middle division between the Big Five and FCS, there will have to be decisions made about whether Peden will be a priority for spending.

Its clear to me that if the school is not going to renovate or expand the stadium at 35-25 dollars we've reached our maximum price point for a general admission ticket. There is no way we charge 50-40 a ticket without improvements. Even then if the school only made 1 million dollars of ticket revenue in 2012-13 higher ticket prices won't help that much to the bottom line.

If we are consistently selling out, we waited too long. We need to anticipate demand factoring in expected growth. Waiting is irresponsible.

Pony up then BIG DOG, because the only people concerned about this are the 20 or so architechts on this website.

Architect? I am actually a finance guy concerned if we are not properly forecasting growth into our financial models... As I stated.

When I was little I wanted to be an architect, but my artistic ability (lacking) crushed that dream.

Calling a finance person an architect is a felony in many states.

This picture was in an Ohio Game day program back in 2000. It shows an upper deck in expansion plans

Well I doubt that extension is possible now with the IPF being built.

Sometimes they will design a building such that an upper deck can sit on the roof, so the building is both a building, and the structural support for the deck.

I do not think the IPF limits us from building a 2nd deck on the student side. Many have said we would knock down the student side and completely rebuild it... Personally, I would prefer we just keep 1 deck and make it much steeper and taller.

If it were me I would demolish the main sideline section on the student side of the stadium. I would then rebuild it to where the end zone corner actually attaches to the new section. That main section seats 7500 people I think. Rebuild it to seat 10,000. That would get capacity up to 26,500. Finally close the north end and bring the seats all the way down to the field. Those seats would replace the tent. I am guessing that would get capacity somewhere between 30,000-32,000. As far as I am concerned that would be plenty of permanent seats. Keep the hill for overflow.

By taking that main section on student side to 10,000 you could increase the ability of the stadium to hold noise which would improve home filed advantage. It would also provide a space to build club seating.

It make much more sense to update the new side.  Students are getting in for free, why not upgrade the side where the money is?

The students are paying thousands every year in tuition. I will gladly pay $98 for my season tickets this year over the couple thousand I paid last year in tuition to get me my free ticket. Like you said, why not upgrade where the money is? When I see the student section on TV, I see thousands of dollars being sent to Ohio University.

The student section was FULL for multiple games last year. I expect the student section to be at 100% sell out capacity for every Saturday home game this year with the exception of Austin P. North Texas, Marshall, CMU and Miami, at all of those games Peden will turn away Ohio students wanting to watch Bobcat football.

Even if you don't build a new seating section for students... More space is needed there. It is packed right now beyond capacity. The hill is the perfect overflow section for students, but we are to the point where Peden needs more seats for students.

Well the logical next step is to then make that entire side student and general admission seating.

Point is, we can increase revenue by upgrading and adding to the new side as opposed to old side.  Students stand on bleachers.  Big Money people pay to sit in nice areas.

I get the student tuition argument.  I think students should have first knock at road game tickets because in a sense they are all high level donors.  When they turned students away at a few games last year, I thought that was garbage.  A student pays a ton of money to athletics, yet someone who pays $100 bucks for 4 tickets gets to be in the stadium ahead of them?  I know why it is that way, but just doesn't seem right.

This could open up a whole can of worms....Should students get parking passes? Should students get Rohr Room Access?  I think these are all valid arguments though.

Students are not just paying tuition.  The reason tickets are free is because every student pays around $700 into a general fee (this is not included in tuition).  Said general fee pays for things like tickets.  That's why it seems like students get in for free, because that fee has already bought the tickets.  So never say students get in for free, that is a misconception (and also the main reason for the aggressive feelings towards athletics from some, students have no say in the general fee, all must pay it).

I agree that they pay, but  the student side isn't built to "Make money".

I think that would cost an awful lot of money for few seats. Why not get rid of the hill and build a grandstand end zone seats there? Put in 7000 to 10000 seats.  You save the cost of the demolition to the student side.

Who do you think is most likely to contribute money to Ohio Athletics?  Get the students in and interested in the game day atmosphere.  Get them invested, this way once they are gone they will be all the more likely to want to return - with their money...

Look closely and you'll also see the corner sections have been extended to the field and there is a connecting string of seats between the two half shells.

I'd rather just start over on those corner sections... Make them "fit" with the rest of the field. They aren't terrible seats for viewing the game, but they just don't look right...
