Forgive my ignorance, or if it's been talked about before but I was wondering if there were any plans to add seating to sort of attach the endzone seating to the sideline seating. The thought always crosses my mind every time I see a shot of Peden.

There have probably been talks about it but nothing serious.  If Peden were being consistently filled it would make sense, but as of right now we only usually get 1 sellout game a year.  Plus all donor money has been going to the IPF and to renovations in the Peden Tower and those were hard enough to get on their own, actually still short on the Locker Room money.  Going to take some more success on the field and more donor power to even consider that, because the school for sure isn't going to front any money for that.

If by heavily discussed you mean on this message board, then yes. As far as those that actually make these decisions, my understanding is that it's a non-starter. Peden may be "renovated"...but not expanded in the near future.

Expansion I thought was always predicated in moving to a different conference with traveling fans because the population base on its own didn't support a much larger stadium. Also a driver was NCAA requirements that mandated a 30,000 seat stadium which is why most of the MAC moved to that capacity. Today most of the mid sized college town schools in the MAC and SBC are building to 25,000 seats. The capacity Peden from that perspective is in line with the Ohio MAC schools (27k to 23k).

The endzone seats aren't connected and they don't have the same pitch as the sideline seats. There is no way to directly connect. I've mentioned before that all the improvements to Peden over the last 25 years have filled in spaces without any tear downs. I could see fitting in concessions and bathrooms in between the endzone seats or some additional club seating. An enlarged concession area on the student side between Victory Hill.  A supersized scoreboard between the endzone seats would be nice. The goal is to get the stadium experience on par with a professional venue.

as mentioned it can't be done because of the pitch of the seats.  I will always maintain that the design of that expansion is one of the greatest examples of architectural diarrhea I've ever seen.

Actually, the fact that those half-shell sections are raised makes for a significantly better view of the field.  Not a bad place to watch from.

Who's goal is that??

We'd all love some super-sized video board and other bells & whistles, but I highly doubt that's happening anytime soon.

Look at how long it took to get the IPF funding. Before that, when was our last major facility improvement?? Probably Peden's renovation/expansion in 2001 and before that the baseball/softball fields. We've not exactly been leading the facilities arms race here. Anything that's been done is more behind-the-scenes with a focus on recruiting (locker rooms, training facilities and of course the IPF).

Not only that, but those seats were built when the field was at ground level.

I must be old.  I believe that a winning team is about 99% of a good fan experience.

Especially given how close every seat in our smal stadium is to the action, it's sad to think that the ball which we play now is not enough...that peoples may need such as a jumbotron.

When the 'Cats are playing good ball and that excitement hits me--that there's one helluva(n) experience.

I just don't get all the end zone section hate. I have sat in those sections many times before my season tickets, and they provide some excellent views of the game. I kind of like the look of these sections. They are unique to college football and uniquely Ohio! I do think more could be done, but all in all, there not bad!

I'll concede that the seats are strange looking. But, actually watching a game in them is not nearly as bad as you might think. I don't think they're going away anytime soon, so we might as well get used to them!

You definitely need a new video board and sound system.  When we were there in 2011 (my first visit), I was shocked at how small and outdated your current one is.  I understand that some say that the play on the field should be all that matters, but that is too old school.  A good video and sound system can be used to fire up the crowd with big replays or with inspirational videos before and after the game.  Plus it is a great source of revenue for the athletic program.  Not to mention the football players (recruits) like to see themselves on the big screen.

As far as money is concerned, ISP Sports paid for both of our videobards in the football stadium, plus basketball, and softball.

I don't see why ISP or another company couldn't pay for your video and sound system as well.  Who currently carries your pregame and postgame shows, call in shows, website, etc?

I'd rather they  put a seating section on the hill and move the scoreboard to the opposite side of the field between the two endzone sections. That would give the entire thing a "full" feeling. But I would think they want to see whoever follows Solich is continuing the success before pouring millions of dollars into a stadium that would be half-empty if the program doesn't transition well into the next coaching regime.

To put it simply, those two corner sections make our stadium look like garbage. They look like tacky, cheap add-on seats...

I'm good with either a bowl connecting or a separate straight endzone stand unconnected to the two main stands. I think this should be a priority over redoing the student side grandstand, although I'd be good with both.

IMHO I would hate to see the river side of the stadium enclosed with seating. It may just be nostalgia. I have been going to games in Peden for as long as I can remember, long before the end zone sections which I think are not bad, and to enclose that side of the stadium seems wrong.

I say build up on the student side, and perhaps also the end zone sections, before adding anything behind either end zone.

Again, just my opinion...

I don't doubt the importance of focusing on recruiting first and I can see value in making the basketball practice facility the next major fundraising initiative over stadium expansion. What I'm questioning here is the idea that Ohio can charge 50 dollars for a general admission ticket with a facility experience worth 15 dollars. I was sitting at a minor league baseball game in a box seat chair back 15 rows up for $17 on Sunday. Even in a 5,000 seat minor league stadium the concessions, team shop and bathrooms vastly exceeded Peden. Why cant the athletic department go out and spend 5 million to upgrade the concessions and scoreboard and then up the ticket prices to 50 a game to pay for it? Based on the robust crowds the last couple of years in Peden the fans could handle it.

Interesting point, Wes. Peden is indeed outdated in many respects. If anyone attempted to head to concessions or the restroom at one of last year's sellouts, you experienced the poor infrastructure first-hand.

From what I've heard, though, Peden renovation isn't really in the short or long-term plans. At the Pomeroy caravan, it was mentioned that the next big facility improvements after the IPF are 1. A basketball practice facility (in between the Convo and the softball field) and 2. A renovation of the academic center on the 4th floor of Peden. And those were presented as 5-7 years down the road sort of projects. Unless one of us wins the lottery, I don't think Peden stands to change much over the next decade.

That is exactly where I visualized the basketball practice facility going. To think Ohio could have a BPF in 5 years as Christian continues to unlock the potential of the program is exciting. Generally though, I've noticed that McDavis has scaled back future campus construction projects from what was outlined 5 years ago when magnificent new college greens were designed all across campus. Building is now targeted toward community revenue stream generators like a diabetic clinic and an arts education center. There is a new 4-year guaranteed tuition model up for vote by the Board of Trustees and I'm sensing that the university is turning to its internal problems.

Architect? I am actually a finance guy concerned if we are not properly forecasting growth into our financial models... As I stated.
 

When I was little I wanted to be an architect, but my artistic ability (lacking) crushed that dream.
