We're looking to answer that question by conducting research on college football rivalries across the country. Please take our survey to tell us what rivalry means to Ohio fans, and we'll come back to share the results later in the year. As an added incentive, we'll give away three Amazon gift cards ($100, $50, $50) via a random drawing on or about September 10.

Thanks in advance for helping with our research!

Is she hot? Cool? Does she care that I'm 8-12 years older than her?

The cheeleader thing is not one of the questions.  It asks who you think Ohio's rivals are, and then some questions about rivalries.

The last page was my favorite:

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I can only imagine what other people will put in that field. I just referenced the "So Say Us All" thread.

It was an interesting survey. Got you thinking about rivals.

Agree. After taking the survey, I see what you mean. If the actual survey premise was about dating a cheerleader, that would have certainly been a bit out-of-the-box.

How did everyone allocate the "rivalry points?"

That was a VERY tough question for me to answer. This is what I settled on:

Miami: 45
Marshall: 35
Akron: 15
Ohio State: 5

Very curious how everyone else picked. I really hate Ohio State. I hate them more than the other 3 schools... But I consider those other schools bigger rivals.

After more thought... I would've gave Temple some hate if they were still in the MAC. Also, Akron is all basketball, however if they ever get respectable in football they will be a huge rival.

Marshall 40 (Muck Farshall)
Miami 40 (Muck Fiami)
Akron 5 (mostly b/c basketball, but that hate carries over into football, and Terry Bowden looks like a turducken)
Buffalo 5 (I feel like this SHOULD be a bigger rivalry, again probably b/c of basketball)
Kent 5 (too many ruined seasons lately to not have some hate)
Temple 5 (would have given them 20 if MH55 was still around)

Miami: 67
Marshall: 33

I looked at it from a purely football standpoint (why I didn't include Akron). I also hate OSU more than any of those other schools, but I don't consider them a rival on the football field. Maybe a rival in terms of the attention of current students, but not a purely football rival.

I went 60/40 Miami and Marshall. Marshall is growing in my estimation though as a rival since they actually give a sh*t about athletics and have fans. I thought it was kind of funny that 2 of the most important factors I chose in the Ohio/Miami rivalry was Cultural Similarity(2 oldest public universities, oldest MAC rivals, the campuses and academics being a step above the rest of the MAC) and Cultural Difference (the whole vibe of their student body vs ours).

Exact same here. But I think that's what makes a great rivalry....you have to have some level of similarity and mutual respect. But at the same time have a healthy dislike of everything the other one stands for. It's what makes Ohio-Miami a perfect rivalry.

Now if only they had fans, or if the few fans they do have actually cared.

I picked those same two factors for Miami and thought that was funny. I think that describes our rivalry with them perfectly.

In terms of just football, I dislike Marshall more than Miami, although Miami beating us last year changed that a bit. In some respects the Miami rivalry is kinda like OSU for me... I dislike the school more than actually disliking their football team.

My trip to Marshall last year was a blast. As mentioned above... It is a lot of fun because they have fans who actually care... That game in Peden this year is going to be madness.

I was contemplating putting Ohio State in there, because I do think there is something to be said about being kicked around by the so called "big brother" of the state. But overall, we play them what, once every 4-5 years? That's not a rivalry.

I didn't put Ohio State in there, but I would imagine that I would feel more strongly, in a negative way, if I were dating an Ohio State fan or if one became my boss.

Miami 50
Marshall 30
Ohio State 10
Akron 5

Temple 5

Miami for all the reasons mentioned.
Marshall because I hate them, their fans, and their city.
Ohio State because I want to beat them in football, academics, and notoriety.
Akron because they suck.
Temple because of their fans. Though I have many colleagues with Temple degrees and they are nice people, but could care less about Temple sports (including basketball).

I went 70 Miami and 30 Marshall, since it was football only I considered giving points to Kent State and BG.  But they are only rivals for us when they are good and pushing us for the division title.  While Miami and Marshall will always be our rivals due to history, geography, and cultural differences.  If our rivalry with Marshall hadn't had such a large gap due to their switching of conferences I probably would have given them more points.

This isn't an answer to your dating question but is funny nevertheless.

I spoke to the parents of WR,  Chase Cochran last year.  Apparently his sister was thinking about attending Fiami and trying out for their cheerleading team. Apparently after much discussions about never speaking to her again he  was proud to report she came to her senses and is now a proud member of the Bobcat Cheerleader Team.

Talk about a potential house divided!!!

I wonder if there has ever been a recent case where one sibling cheered for the other at OU.

Sure there is, the Green brothers come to mind immediately and I personally saw Dever Posey at Peden cheering ...

what? Oh. Never mind.

GoCats105, I agree with you. I ranked mine very similar. I'm VERY surprised at some of the high rankings for Marshall. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Akron is a Community College. Wouldn't know how to understand someone choosing Akron over Ohio (if there was not a scholarship involved). Seriously...I would be absolutely dumbfounded by that decision.

Ohio State? Nope. Mostly because we rarely play them...and when we do...it's mostly on their terms. Plus...Ohio State does not see us as a rival. Clapping with one hand is stupid.
