This might be the slice of humble pie this program needed. During the broadcast ESPN showed the schedule Louisville had in their facility. It had one name on it....Ohio. I am not suggesting we overlooked Louisville. There was plenty of talk about going to Detroit and winning. Maybe being taken to the woodshed will help our team refocus. Next week we will know if we have guys willing to work for the goal of a MAC Championship. Play one game at a time.
I kept waiting for the offensive play calling that we used in the Independence Bowl. Whatever we saw on film that we thought we could exploit in the Louisville interior was clearly not working. They even told us they were going to load the box against Beau. It seemed to me that our receivers could compete against their DB's. A play action pass on 1st down might have been a good idea. I guess we will never know.
Bridgewater's accuracy was impressive. The defense needed to figure out how to get off the field on the 3rd down. It was sad. There was more than one occasion that Bridgewater threaded the needle. The coverage was usually blown after two or three impressive 3rd down throws.
I was really disappointed that we did not compete today. After rising up to the moment in Happy Valley last year, I did not think we would shrink in the national spot light. I don't mind losing, I was upset we threw in the towel extremely early. The team embarrassed themselves and the university. I don't think this game set the program back 10 years. Hopefully it can be used as a teaching moment to refocus.
