The Herd will probably have 4,000 - 5,000 in Athens.  It would be nice if Ohio brought half of that to Huntington.  I know OH fans don't want to hear that (as another poster said), but it is true.

...

Here's the home attendance for Marshall for the last 2 seasons-

34.424- VaTech 9/24/11
33,436- OHIO 9/15/12
27,509- Rice 10/15/11
27,189- Tulsa 10/6/12
25,317- W Carolina 9/8/12
24,247- SoMiss 9/10/11
22,563- UCF 10/27/12
22,456- E Carolina 11/26/11
22,041- Memphis 11/3/12
20,735- UAB 10/29/11
18,831- Houston 11/17/12

There is a significant gap between the Ohio game and every other home game except VT. The other 9 home games averaged 23,432, almost exactly 10K less than the Ohio game. You can't tell me that the Ohio game drew 10K more than average because 10K more Herd fans came out. There's A LOT of Ohio fans in that mix.

Those numbers at best reflect 3,000 Tech fans and 1,000 Ohio fans.  None of that matters though this year.  Looking forward to Saturday!

Go Herd!

My guess is there were 2,000 to 3,000 Ohio fans at the game last year. I was pleasantly surprised by their turnout.

its hard to tell due to colors being in the same ball park, but I will say that many more marshall fans come out for ohio for a couple of reasons to explain that difference in attendance.

A. We always play early season when expectations are high and most ofbthe time, ohio is our first true test and a barometer of where we are for the season.

B. Its a rivalry game with more interest, period, than a tulane or houston, etc.

C. Ohio does bring a couple thousand fans

I look forward to being in athens saturday and rocking the kelly green under the lights. Should be an elextric atmosphere.

Marshall will always travel well for this game. Can you blame them? What other road game is realistic for them? I go to at least three road games a season living in Cincinnati. There are a lot of easy dirves in conference. Nothing is easy in Conference USA for them. Except the schedule this year. It makes for a good atmosphere.

Every other year 5,000 Marshall fans show up and shame Bobcat Nation (especially the Tower side) into actually cheering like, well, normal college football fans should cheer......  And I dig it.

I actually think most Ohio fans like having a big turnout from Herd fans in Athens.  It's fun.

Agree.  But I do hope that no visiting Marshall fan brings a whistle.

I said 5 to 8 thousand. Now knowing Marshall was only given  3000 tickets and returned 1800.. It will be closer to 5,000 than 8,000..

I received an email today from the Big Green and it said that we sold our allotment of tickets, but to call the Ohio ticket office for more tickets.  We did not return any tickets.  8,000 (1/3 of the stadium) would be extremely high to expect though.  The Herd will probably have 4,000 - 5,000 in Athens.  It would be nice if Ohio brought half of that to Huntington.  I know OH fans don't want to hear that (as another poster said), but it is true.

The difference is people want to come to Athens.

Ha, people actually want to come to Ohio>? Hmmm, then why are so many Ohio folks down here in SC? I'll post a few links to end that argument for you! Maybe, just maybe, our fans travel big to almost every game we have on the road?

It's interesting that despite the two blowout wins and despite the huge numbers Terd put up in them, they didn't get a single vote in either poll -- AP or Coaches.  Not one.  Zilch.  Nada.  Bupkis.  Could it be that the pollsters recognize that Fiami & G-W are little more than stat-padding opposition at this point?

I'm feeling too many negative vibes on this board from the Bobcat faithful.  Why???
Ok, we got beat up by U of L  and made a game of North Texas.   So what..  I'm not one for making excuses but lets really look at this in detail
U of L
1. U of L is most likely going to be in the National Championship game and Teddy will be the favorite to win the Heisman.  Note: I didnt say they would make it into the championship because they are the best team.  Facts are facts.  It's almost impossible to navigate through the SEC without at least one loss.
2.  We all can agree that we waited too long to open up the offense at U of L.  Down 3 scores to them was nearly impossible.
3. We came out of a spring where most of our skill guys sat out.  Timing was not there and it was obvious.
4. Maybe, just maybe, we bought into the hype that we were the team that was going to hand them their only loss.   (which frankly, pissed them off I'm sure)

Game was over by the end of the first QTR and I'm sure even the coaches knew it.... So why show anything new.

North Texas.
1. We should have put this team away by half time.   A couple of penalties and missed opportunities in the Redzone allowed them to get back in it.
2. We saw a much better Bobcat (balanced) offense and the Defense was outstanding.
3. The skilled players looked more in sync and the DB's were playing much better
4. North Texas is not a bad team.

I believe many are making their assesment based on our performance vs Marshall last year.  By all rights we got beat.   I also believe many feel this years OU team is not as good.  To that I say Bull#$&@.     Are we playing our best right now.  Probably not.  Are we getting better every QTR.  Stats would suggest so....

Last year we limped into Marshall with little to no experience at DB.. TT, as we learned later in the year, was not 100%..

Do I believe Marshall is a better team than they were last year.  You bet I do...
Do I think the Bobcats are a better team than they were, vs Marshall last year.  You bet I do.

So with that said.  Let the games begin... This is gonna be a good one.

Sorry, but I just felt I needed to vent.....

Good rant Rowdy. There's a lot of truth to what you're saying. Write off the Louisville game....we needed to play perfect, especially early on, to keep pace, and our gameplan was just wrong. North Texas was better than expected....the frustrating part is that we outplayed North Texas on the field by much more than the scoreboard indicated, but the scoreboard is the stat that trumps all others.

Offense....after 2 games.....is not what we hoped. Maybe it's by design, maybe it's due to inexperience on the line, maybe it's player hesiation, maybe it starts to click this week. Who knows. But we gotta take advantage of the opportunities we're presented to score points!

Defense....after 2 games.....is probably better than expected. I was pleased with how well we limited North Texas running the ball. If we can do that to Terd, good things will happen. Pass D was pretty good too until we went prevent and allowed a lot of underneath throws. T. Carrie can lock down Shuler. Account for the tight end and don't allow any blown deep coverage and we're in decent shape.

Special Teams......after 2 games.....still a question mark. Maybe Green has it together now after getting the first make. If he hits that first kick against North Texas, or either against Louisville, I don't think I'm concerned at all right now. Kickoffs are weak, though....maybe that was intentional vs. North Texas (I think one of their returners is supposed to be pretty good). Punting.......still dreading a big time punt rush. Venham is still taking an extra half step in his kicks. Has to do better.

There's no reason we can't win this game. None. We just have to play ball like we can.

I think what's different about this year is that it feels like we didn't do enough in Spring and Fall camps to prepare for the beginning of the season. Unlike last year where we started at the apex and continued to drift down as injuries took their toll this year feels like we might be ascending over time, improving each week.

If we can squeak this one out we've got cream puffs from now until November MACtion.

That won't change if we handily beat the Kitties either.

cream puffs, you've got to be kidding, we are fully capable of losing to anyone (fbs) on our schedule. If you look at how close many of our wins were last year, I can't be so sure about calling even UMass and Akron as cream puffs . Frankly I seem nothing so far to tell me that we can take anyone lightly.

You'd feel that way too if Sherman had marched through West Virginia the way he did through South Carolina!

BTW, we claim Sherman as a subway alumnus, since his father-in-law and step father (same man) was the second graduate of Ohio, in the first graduating class.
