I know we are bringing 12 in section 106 and I know of half a dozen other groups in section 106 as well. Many herd fans waited and took advantage of the 5 buck ticket deal last year and dont want to pay crazy prices to sit in the corner again after that. I coulent imagine we bring less than 5,000. Especially for an 8pm kickoff that allows for ppl to leave after work etc to make it

As for my 21 pt prediction, I base that off of seeing this team as the best since 99, and I am not a kool aid drinker, they really are that balanced and that good and athletic on defense. This could be a special year for us, I mean no disrespext to OU with that prediction.

but out of the 24,000 this week 5 to 8 thousand of them will be Marshall fans. I believe Ohio has to give Marshall 5000 tickets plus another couple thousand  probably bought em from the Ohio ticket office.

Last I saw Marshall is 7 point favorites.

I talked with my sales team "account rep" last week to order a couple more tickets to the game and learned that Marshall's sales are way below expectations. Apparently they were given 3,000 tickets but returned about 1,800 of them unsold. That's not to say that some Marshall fans won't be purchasing through Ohio...but it doesn't sound like a Herd invasion.

8K Marshall fans? 8K? Peden only holds 24K, you're saying 1out of every 3 people in Peden will be a Herd fan? Impossible. Some Herd fans tried to float that 8K number for 2011 and were using the number of kelly green shirts they saw as justification. OU has plenty of kelly green shirts in ciculation, I have a closet full of them.

I don't doubt Marshall will bring a good crowd, but when we're already packing in Peden as it is there just isn't 8K tickets available for non-Ohio fans to buy. And if there were we would have been sold out a long time ago. Its game week and we're still not sold out. Here's the attendance for every Saturday home game in Peden since 2011-

25,893- New Mexico St 9/8/12
25,542- Akron 10/13/12
24,511- N Texas 9/7/13
24,244- Marshall 9/17/11
23,673- Norfolk St 9/22/12
23,155- Gardner Webb 9/10/11
23,146- Ball St 10/15/11
20,044- Buffalo 10/6/12
17,155- Kent St 10/1/11

We're already at 95% to 105% capacity in most games without them, they'll bring a good crowd, but they aren't taking over our house.

I have 36 tickets for this game, and I might not have enough to accommodate my friends and clients that want to attend. I think 10 are loyal Bobcat fans, and 26 will be Herd fans from Parkersburg. I would guess 1/4 of the crowd will be Marshall fans and they will account for 1/2 of the crowd noise. I hope our normally quiet, pathetic fanbase doesn't try to insert "Ohio" every time the lighter shade of green loudly yells, "we are". It makes my skin crawl when our fans do that. We have some good, original cheers that should be used instead.

This should be a great game and I can't wait for Saturday.

I said 5 to 8 thousand. Now knowing Marshall was only given  3000 tickets and returned 1800.. It will be closer to 5,000 than 8,000..

I don't know where the 1,800 number came from, but Marshall did not return any tickets.  As of yesterday, 530 tickets remained for purchase.

Returned tickets means absolutely nothing.

no one buys through Marshall for away game tickets because we have so many rules.  You have to be a donor to buy from the school and other crap.

Plenty of Herd fans will be there.

The corner endzone section that most Marshall fans will be sitting seats 2500. Others will be scattered throughout tower side of stadium. I am sure by next Sunday morning there will be Marshall fans claiming that at least 20,000 of the fans in attendance were wearing Kelly green. 😊

I bet at the end of the game there will be more Marshall fans in attendance than Ohio fans.

How about some unbiased analysis and predictions? Can we take Marshall for the third straight year?.

No.  We won't.  We are too stale on offense.

2 games in this reminds me of basketball last year.  The magic is gone.

(Disclaimer:  I predicted a loss to North Texas as well.)

A friend working near (not exactly in) the ticket department told me they are expecting 4500 Herd Fans.  Higher than what I had hoped to hear but seems reasonable.  This wasn't necessarily tickets sold directly to Marshall but actual fans coming from Huntington.  I'm not sure how exactly they came up with that number.

One of my favorite recurring topics on BA is how the Herd always brings several more thousand fans than any source and that we always travel there with just enough fans to load 1 school bus.

You all brought a big contingent of fans last year... but Herd fans travel in great numbers. 5,000 would not be an absurd number to estimate.

Difference between two years ago was you all offering $10 tickets opposed to the $35 price tag now.

And this is an essential sign of progress for Bobcat football. To support a program with $10 tickets, you have to play a lot of "money games", played at a hostile site for a big paycheck.

It should be a rowdy stadium if so many Marshall fans will be there. Maybe that will get more of the OHIO fans to cheer even louder. Shaping up like a nice battle, but I think Marshall has a little more this year and will be too much for the Cats. It could even get embarrassing if too many students leave at halftime and Marshall fans take over Peden. I was also wrong about North Texas and hope I'm wrong again.

We can get the magic back if we win...

Those were summer pre-sale tickets. Marshall stopped selling Ohio and VT tickets through the MU ticket office 10 days before the season started. So since Aug 21st Herd fans have been buying tickets through the OU ticket office and stub hub. I would say 4,000 -5,000 sounds about right.

Will be real interesting. I'm going to give Frank the nod on this one. I recall in the past his ability to prepare this team for games like this. Marshall and Temple come to mind.

The last (2) Marshall Games he won.

He basically made Temple sniff his jock in multiple games.

Let's see what happens.

A loss will be tough to take for about a week. A win and we have a good opportunity to start 3-1. Neither scenario guarantees us a MAC East Title which is where we need to be in December to play for a championship.

Ohio was more experienced and more athletic than the Herd in 2011. I think we've closed that gap over the last two years.

I also don't know if it was a matter of the competition or if its a concerted effort this season, but we rushed the ball 96 times in the last two games. If we are able to maintain tempo but run the ball more effectively I think we can burn more clock and keep TT off the field. That can only help our chances.

Yesterday tweet
"@JasonAmessenger:RT@HerdNation: About 700 tickets left for the OHIO game. Heard sections 109, 110 and 111 sold out.  Still seats available in 112. #takebackt"

Odd though that our media guy uses opponents tweets to reference our ticket sales.

As for winning 3 in a row?  Hope for the best, but expect the worse.  They just haven't shown much of anything to warrant any confidence in this game.

I received an email today from the Big Green and it said that we sold our allotment of tickets, but to call the Ohio ticket office for more tickets.  We did not return any tickets.  8,000 (1/3 of the stadium) would be extremely high to expect though.  The Herd will probably have 4,000 - 5,000 in Athens.  It would be nice if Ohio brought half of that to Huntington.  I know OH fans don't want to hear that (as another poster said), but it is true.

Also, our game is the only game that tickets cost $35.  Future games are less expensive; like $15 for some of the games.

It wouldn't surprise me if The Herd won by four TDs.  It wouldn't surprise me if The Herd lost though.  Nothing surprises me after the last 10 years.  I know emotions run high in this game, but The Herd is loaded with talent and ability.  I guess we shall know around 11pm Saturday night.

Go Herd!

Not that it really matters this year, but it is true to an extent.  If you come to the games in Huntington, then you would see it.  It's not smack talk as much as it's "invade Huntington" like The Herd invades Athens talk.  We want you at our games, but it seems like the talk around here is that you dread the large contingent that Marshall will bring to Athens.

I actually think most Ohio fans like having a big turnout from Herd fans in Athens.  It's fun.

Here's the home attendance for Marshall for the last 2 seasons-

34.424- VaTech 9/24/11
33,436- OHIO 9/15/12
27,509- Rice 10/15/11
27,189- Tulsa 10/6/12
25,317- W Carolina 9/8/12
24,247- SoMiss 9/10/11
22,563- UCF 10/27/12
22,456- E Carolina 11/26/11
22,041- Memphis 11/3/12
20,735- UAB 10/29/11
18,831- Houston 11/17/12

There is a significant gap between the Ohio game and every other home game except VT. The other 9 home games averaged 23,432, almost exactly 10K less than the Ohio game. You can't tell me that the Ohio game drew 10K more than average because 10K more Herd fans came out. There's A LOT of Ohio fans in that mix.

I agree that it makes for a fun atmosphere and I personally love it when Marshall fans travel to Athens. The Ohio contingent was better last year in Huntington but still not what it should be.

The only thing I completely hate about playing Marshall is the "Thunder Clap". Please for the love of god retire that tradition. it may be the dumbest thing I have ever witnessed at a sporting event.

Is Marshall bringing it's band? I love it when a visiting band makes the trip. I think it really added to game last year when the 110 traveled to Marshall.

I've been to the last two OHIO games at Marshall. They are louder and they travel at least twice as well to us as we do to them.

We must rise to their challenge.

You haven't earned your stripes until you've been to a Battle of the Bell in Huntington. I'd say the same goes for Herd fans who haven't made the trip to Athens.
