Scott would be a good one. I like D Lo also. That would be my choice. I feel like they just command a room.

Faanes. I think there are some good choices in the building. I don't know much about Hauser, other than I'm sure that's Spense's hand-picked choice.

Honest to goodness, I had no idea Memphis was an FBS football school.
Where was the "rimshot here" on that one?

The "don't forget to tip your bartender, I'll be here all week!"

As much as everybody loves comedy, Memphis played Penn State in the Cotton Bowl around five years ago. They went to 15 bowls in a 20 year period.

Teams they played in bowls during that time besides Penn State:

BYU
Auburn
Iowa State (twice)
Wake Forest

Pretty sure they are a D-1 football program.

I can't believe you made me google this, but since everyone is a smart ass... Memphis State was an FCS program for most of its existence, before moving into an Independent status and eventually changing their name and moving to CUSA.
So they have only been full fledged D-1 in football for like 52 years?

LMAO!

Has anyone heard why he left ?
He went from a DC to an Asst.Dc at a lesser known D1 program.

Seems like an odd Lateral move.

Money? Family? Bigger City? Eyes on Coordinator Position at Memphis? Albin told him he had to stop swearing? Could be anything.

I'm not seeing where Memphis is "lesser known".

I may not have these numbers exactly correct, but here is what I found:

Nowinsky Ohio Salary: $185,640

Some known salaries for 2023:
Offensive line coach Jeff Myers will make $265,000 this season, according to the university's salary database. Special teams coordinator Chris White will make $200,000, and receivers coach Larry Smith will make $175,000.

I can't imagine Nowinksy didn't just get a $125k or more raise. That ain't lateral.

I don't know how many people here know much if anything about Memphis Football.
That would seem to qualify as a lessor known program.

I wonder how many people on Memphis boards know much if anything about Ohio football? I suspect that they would argue that Ohio is a lessor known program.

In any case, the 5 year average attendance at Ohio football games was 18,200, while the 5 year average for Memphis is 34,787. With nearly twice the attendance, i would guess that Memphis has a much larger budget, and that Nowinsky got a large raise. No doubt it would have been more if he had become the Defensive Coordinator at a P5 school, but it's still a step up.

So per available data that I can find, Memphis spent 18 mil on football in 2023, Ohio spent 10 mil. They’re literally in a different league in more ways than one.

Members of this board maintaining and doubling down that Memphis is a low level program is an indictment of our fan base.

I increasingly find myself wondering what the hell happened that made us this provincial and pathetic.

I was in no way trying indict the Ohio fan base. Ohio has great fans. I was simply trying to show that Memphis is at the upper end of G5 in terms of attendance, and actually competes with the lower end of P5.

A different sport and era, but I remember Memphis (Memphis State back then) playing in the Final Four against UCLA and Bill Walton. In fact, I believe it was in this game when Walton went something like 20 of 21 from the floor. This Memphis State team was led by Dr. K (not to be confused with contemporary Dr. J), Larry Kenon.

Since 2014, Memphis has recorded eight seasons with eight or more wins and zero seasons with a losing record. They play in the American Athletic Conference, which is a step up from the MAC. They averaged around 30 k fans in 2023 and play in a stadium much larger than Peden. In no way shape or form, is Memphis a lesser program than Ohio.

Maybe this is why he headed to Memphis. He won't see this at Ohio.

Nah. It’s not the music scene or history, Central or Rendezvous barbeque, program standing, or even the added NIL money. It’s the Peabody ducks. We just can’t compete with that.

Those are right up there with the Blarney Stone - it’s amazing how little it takes to amuse the simple minded.

Still no official announcement.

Albin didn't mention it in any of the quotes at the spring game either. Despite being directly asked about the absence of Spense. He just mentioned a next man up mentality a few times.
