Just saw a report he's off to Memphis. I wish him the best. He's a really good coach.

This hurts a lot. Our best hope was that our defense would be as dominant as last year. This lowers the odds of that significantly, IMO. With this, the players we lost, and the long list of spring injuries, This is feeling more and more like a rebuilding year

Coach Hauser will do a good job and he is prepared! He was a Co DC at Miami for six years. Ohio University has to prepare for the fact that they will lose players and coaches yearly. This is the minor league and the Bobcats are preparing these players/coaches for the major leagues.

Hauser will be good in the role. Losing Nowinsky sucks but he certainly left it better than he fOUnd it. I will be more curious to see what they do as a Co-Coordinator. Faanes is highly thought of in the building. Do they hire a DE coach?

Coach Hauser will become the Defensive Coordinator
Honest to goodness, I had no idea Memphis was an FBS football school. Let alone could pay their head coach nearly $3M per season.

Sad to see him go. What a job he did here.

Like someone else said, 100% expected him to be gone this season but as always, hate this timing, but at least we can mitigate some of the short-term fallout (hopefully) with Hauser.

Wait, he's going from OC to defensive line coach? Beyond the dollars, what does this do for him? I definitely expected him to get offered an OC job somewhere...certainly somewhere better than Memphis.

"In a bold move set to energize its coaching lineup, Memphis football has tapped Ohio’s Spence Nowinsky to invigorate its defensive strategies. The announcement comes as a strategic maneuver to bolster the team’s lineup with veteran experience and innovation ahead of the forthcoming season.

Nowinsky, known for his dynamic defensive acumen, is pegged to fill the significant vacancies of defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator, marking a fresh chapter for both him and the Tigers. The implications of this staffing decision promise to ripple through the team’s preparations, pointing towards a potentially transformative phase in its competitive journey.

Spence Nowinsky’s transition from Ohio to Memphis isn’t just a mere change of scenery. His tenure as the defensive coordinator at Ohio, starting in 2022, and previous experience at Illinois State underscore a career dedicated to defensive excellence."

The above is from a Memphis news release. Not sure if he will be Co-DC or not?

That seems to omit his time at Miami, but that's OK; Miami should be omitted.

Last 10 years they have been in the top 25 5 times, and the CFP top 20 twice at the end of the season.

I’d rather keep Spence and get rid of Albin.

Contract negotiations must be taking a while. There still hasn't been an official announcement.

Where was the "rimshot here" on that one?

The "don't forget to tip your bartender, I'll be here all week!"

As much as everybody loves comedy, Memphis played Penn State in the Cotton Bowl around five years ago. They went to 15 bowls in a 20 year period.

Teams they played in bowls during that time besides Penn State:

BYU
Auburn
Iowa State (twice)
Wake Forest

Pretty sure they are a D-1 football program.

I can't believe you made me google this, but since everyone is a smart ass... Memphis State was an FCS program for most of its existence, before moving into an Independent status and eventually changing their name and moving to CUSA.

So he’s the number 2 man on the defensive side. It will be interesting to see how that turns out.
He ran a heck of a defense last year. I wish him the best

So they have only been full fledged D-1 in football for like 52 years?

Bummer. I thought we were in the clear after the first lap of the coaching carousel. I guess not.

Will Hauser be named the DC? Saw some speculation yesterday that Coach Scott is in the running too. Could we have Co-DCs?
