I can tell you why everyone is picking us to play in the Potato Bowl. Its a MAC guaranteed bowl tie-in and while everyone is picking us to have a good season all the publications are going with NIU as conference champion. It seems logical on the surface but since the MAC has received 1-4 at-large bids every year for the past decade, the fact that Ohio has never played in the same bowl twice, and that its been only 2 years since we played in the Potato Bowl I doubt it. Its more likely that Ohio ends up in Detroit if they win the MAC if a Big Ten team is playing there or the game in Mobile if Ohio wins the division which is looking more likely with a major dismissal from BG. Nobody on the the team currently has played in Mobile, not even Travis Carrie who was on the team for that near upset of Ohio State.

So, your saying Ohio has a slight to good chance to play Nebraska. I would be there. What goes around ....

You know, that would be a good game, from a lot of angles.  I'd bet that Nebraska would bring a good crowd, not just for Frank but also because Detroit in December is almost like Florida to Nebraskans.

I REALLY want to play (and beat) Nebraska for Frank. The only downside to that game would be for the Nebraska fans who have become such great Ohio fans.

I don't think most would have a problem with it if that happened. If you root for two teams, and they play, you know going in that one will win, and the other lose.

It may be more difficult for non-AQs to get into bowls this season.  Last year, four AQ teams were ineligible (O$U, Penn St, MiamiF and UNC).  All had winning records.  This year, there's only one so far, and no non-AQs.  Bowl slots may be at a premium this year.

Hopefully bowl slots won't be at a premium (some in the Plain Dealer were speculating there could be upwards of 40 bowls) but you might be right.  Had Northern Illinois not made the Orange Bowl this past year, I don't think Ohio would have been in the Advocare 100 Independence Bowl.

The extra bowls won't happen until next season after the contracts all expire this year, so there'll still "only" be 35 bowls this season.  Actually, if LaTech hadn't held out for a better bowl or MTSU hadn't pissed off the Sun Belt brass by announcing their jump to CUSA, Ohio wouldn't have been in Shreveport.  And if both LaTech and MTSU had been in bowls, we might've been left out in the cold.  That's really how close we came to staying home, even though we were first to become bowl eligible.

Right, a season like last year would almost certainly mean no bowl this time around. However, I do think at least four MAC teams are likely to get bowls and I do believe Ohio should be at least in the top four, barring a catastrophic injury season like last year.

If La. Tech had not said no to the Independence Bowl, we would have been playing in DC in the Military Bowl.  When the opportunity to play in Shreveport came, Ohio jumped on it and BGSU was able to take the spot in DC...

Interesting the same author has us tied with Ball st. at 9-3 (6-2), but thinks they'll go to Mobile instead of us.  Would Ball State travel better to Mobile?  I imagine it would come down to who'd sell the most tickets.

I think a bowl game against WVU would be a blast!  I always wanted Ohio to play WVU due to the proximity of the two programs.

Lets be honest, odds for a MACC will be tough moving forward. If we want to start thinking about bowls start hoping for Toledo and Buffalo losses. We need to win the games we should (EMU, MU, UMASS) and win 2 of 3 against BGSU, KSU, and Buffalo. We need to get to 9 wins. I wouldnt want the scenario of Buffalo, Toledo, and us all finishing 8-4. Especially if we lose to Buffalo.

Toledo has a tough road to reach 8 wins.  They're 3-3 and their schedule includes home games vs Navy, Buffalo and NIU and at BG.  They'll need to win at least three of those (they also have EMU & Akron).  Buffalo (4-2) also doesn't have it so easy: at Kent and Toledo; home vs Ohio and BG. They'll need to win at least two of those (they also have UMass & Fiami).

We're actually in a better position to get to 8 or maybe 9.  EMU, Fiami & UMass could get us to 7, which means we might need to win only one of the other three to get to 8 and two to get to 9.

This year, we've got to get to 8 wins AT LEAST...probably 9. Not enough teams on probation like last season. Good grief, I still can't believe we lost to CMU....

What would be better than beating Marshall this year?  Beating them twice!  Imagine the Chuck Landon article after that.

USA Today has had them projected in a BCS bowl for at least a couple weeks now. Gotta think Ball State would have a shot if they run the table and beat NIU too

They would have had a shot without the loss to NTSU, but their wins over Army and Virginia aren't as impressive as NIU's wins over Iowa and Purdue.
