There is no middle to the pack in the conference right now Monroe. Its either top or bottom. Tonight Buffalo made us look like a bottom tier MAC squad with help from the referee.

I think there's a very small middle tier.  BSU, NIU, Buffalo, BG & Toledo are well-above .500 (22-2 combined) and are the top tier at the moment.  We (3-2) and CMU (2-2) are middle tier, thanks to being .500 or better.  The rest -- six teams with a total of five MAC wins -- are dregs.

Nope, no question: we sucked *&@ tonight. No hustle, no heart. Got embarrassed by a medicore* Buffalo team. Can't believe I sat/stood out in the cold for 6 hours for that sh...crap.

* In terms of all buffalo sports teams, medicore is the best they've managed in any sport/season in about 15 years.

Don't go there, the Sabres have been to three Eastern Conference Finals and a Stanley Cup Finals all within the last 15 years...

And I think from last night, we learned that UB isn't mediocre. They're pretty good. They have a chance to finish the regular season 10-2. Let's not continue to talk down to them after they ripped us apart.

My bad. I missed 3 sabers squads in a fit of angry hyperbole at 1 in the morning. Probably missed a decent bisons or bandits team somewhere in there too.

Don't worry about it. I take things to heart too much when it comes to Buffalo. Me and most Buffalo natives are like that. We get defensive when we see negative things about our city.

I know. I live with a Buffalo native, and I LOVE twisting his tail/stirring the pot  with Buffalo stuff.
For the record, he's hoping that the sabers keep going as they are this season, in the hopes of getting a #1 draft pick at the lottery

So, you're saying that Beefs O-line pushed our d-line five yards down the field on about every play because the refs lined up with their O-line?

I was watching the line play most of the game, and I never saw that happen. I saw a fierce battle taking place on the d-line, and when Oliver got yards, he got it because he slipped through a gap when our d-line slanted the wrong way, and the LB wasn't able to make the play. When he was stopped at the line, it was 2 yard gain, not a 5 yard gain.

You know what I want? Some accountability. Just someone to step up and say, "That was my fault."

Frank: You let the team slide emotionally after the safety. They gave up. You're the HC, take some responsibility for it.

Albin: Please, just step up and admit the weaknesses in the play design, calls, and/or execution. We look great at times and horrible at times. A good offense should be consistent.

Both Albin and Burrows: From my perspective, you're both being out-coached. Game plans are good and we start fine, but other teams are adjusting in-game better than we are. Why?

T. Carrie: I love you, but dude, seriously, with the punt returns....You gotta be better than that. And I think you know it, too.

T^2: I don't know what the deal is, but c'mon man, something isn't right. Everybody can see it.

In the second half I saw an embarrassing number of runs on which our defense got pushed back yards and we had no contact with Oliver until he'd gained 3-5 yards.  They just pushed us back like that.

I thought that I saw most of the game.  I don't remember hardly a single read-option.  I mostly saw straight runs up the middle with no thought of TT running and no thought of running an option to the outside, either by TT keeping or by having both TT run a traditional option to the wing with choice to toss the the running back.

Buffalo -- not the refs -- whipped us.  They got nine points off ref errors -- the fumble that wasn't and the phantom safety -- but after that it was just them taking us to the woodshed.  Even without the safety, we would've punted from our end zone, so what happened after that probably would've happened anyway.

They knew that they didn't have to respect our running game.  When T2's running, we effectively have a two-back set, but they know that the odds of him handing off the ball are pretty high, so they key on the running back and if T2 takes off, they usually have a linebacker or even a lineman who can track him down.

I was baffled by some of our play calling, too.  2nd & goal at the seven we try a fade that was incomplete, then on 3rd & goal we run?  Looked like we were playing for a FG instead of a tying TD.

And our D still hasn't figured out how to stop the bigger O lines from running all over us.

I'm not sure Solich would've gotten a penalty for doing a Pinella unless he had actually slugged the ref.  Those guys knew they blew it, but apparently didn't want to compound their screw-up by reviewing the call, which seemingly is not allowed by the rules as discussed elsewhere.  Usually when refs know they f***ed up, they give coaches a lot of latitude in arguing.  But it would've been nice to see him give them five or ten minutes of earful after that.  Our guys seemed to pack it in after that and seeing the normally reserved Solich blow up might've provided some spark.

If Donte can't go next week, it looks like Dovell will be the go-to guy.  He ran the slants well.

What has Dovell done to make you think he's our go to slant guy.   Frankly what has he done to think he should even be on the field.  Waters and Cochran would be our go to guys.  Dovell should not even be in the game. I'm sorry he got hurt last year but he's done nothing to prove he's ready.   Heck he has not practiced since Penn State game last year.   He's been limited at practice since he's been back.  I would bring in smith first..  Dovell has only had a few catches since he's been back.  I don't think they have been slants either.     The one TD he had was a busted play at EMU and was not even meant for him.  He ran in front of the targeted WR to catch the ball.

Rowdy, strong feelings. The WR coach is Dwayne Dixon, dixond1ohio.edu. He has only been at this a little while and I am sure he could benefit from your observations. Seriously, if Ohio has a coach who should not be second guessed it would be Dixon. JMHO.

Because like my Grandmother told me...

"Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt."

I'm sure somebody famous said it first, but it will always be a cherished memory.

I want a MAC championship.  I've seen enough of Solich and staff to believe that they can do it.  Contrast Knorr for which I was the first to call for ouster.

I don't see how you all assume I want Coach & staff booted.  They re-tooled after we got diced at Troy.  They can do it.

But the leash is shorter.

Repeat:  Goal is a MACC.  Firing needn't occur for that to happen.

I thought that I'd revive this thread for the happyface, everyone-gets-a-trophy apologists who can tell us, again, how beating 'kron, EMU and redhawk really had meaning.

Losing is one thing.  Losing 79-3 in consecutive weeks to the two best teams in the MAC East is quite another and pretty much says it all, unfortunately.

If only I had been more negative before...I'm sure that would have changed tonight's outcome.

Anyway.  Losing 49-0 is never good.  But, part of this came because the UB game was so physical.  That was a tough game, and UB is getting lit up tonight as well.

I don't believe this team has quit, I think they'll come out playing to win the last two.  That's based on what I've seen these athletes and coaches do over the past several seasons.

Pass me whatever it is that you're drinking. UB at least showed some onions and got itself back into the game. Same can't be said for our team.

I agree...

The ugly part of it to me is not the loss; you play a game, someone is going to win, someone is going to lose. Those are givens.

I saw a whole lot of quit, and unfortunately, you can't coach that out of a player.

Give credit to Kent. What do you want? Solich isn't a miracle worker. Let him figure out after the season. Why can't you just support this team and its demigod of a coach?

If history is any indication, Frank will figure it out.  After the Troy pasting he instituted a whole new offense.  After his firing at Nebraska he spent a year learning new offensive schemes.  Frank's a student of football.  He may not have instant treatments for what ails this team, but he'll work like a mad man in the off season to correct the problems with new schemes, new players (maybe some JUCOs) and perhaps even new coordinators.  I, for one, still have faith in Frank.   On a related note, I plan to attend Coach's Show at Donatos on Monday. I would encourage all of those who are in or near Athens to do the same.  Now is the time for true Bobcat Patriots to stand up and be counted.  Sunshine patriots can do otherwise.
