anorris, thanks for the reply. I read your previous post and from what I can figure out ESPN3 should be available on my AppleTV WatchESPN app via TWC in Athens for the BUGS game. For the Beefs game I was at friend's house. He had an AppleTV and we switched back and forth and saw the game on both ESPN2 and WatchESPN. Amazingly, we noted very little difference in quality. The colors on WatchESPN seemed a little more saturated, and WatchESPN had about a 30 second delay compared to ESPN2.

If you have TWC TV and Internet, you'll be good to go.
I agree on the pic quality, and it is interesting to me -- says two things. First, streaming has improved greatly in the last few years. Second, cable companies really compress the heck out of HD signals, and it degrades them tremendously.

I've also heard speculation that Apple's deal with ESPN includes a high-bandwidth feed. So, with Apple TV you are not getting your feed directly from ESPN but from Apple, and, therefore, are not competing directly with all of the other millions who are going directly to ESPN3. Any truth to this?

Don't know specifics on how the CDN works, but I do know the desktop vs. mobile would be distributed separately, since Flash isn't compatible with iOS devices. So it would at least be separated to some degree from desktop users. But typically, the choke points in that sort of distribution are much closer to your home (because those cost a
lot
more to expand, on a nationwide level).
