ESPN3 is the website. They are the ones streaming the games online that can not be found on TV.

WatchESPN is the name of the app you download that allows you to watch ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPN3 broadcasts on your Android, iPhone, Xbox, etc.

if I recall correctly, STO use to have a TV deal with MAC conference games, but after they got absorbed into Fox Sports Ohio, they didn't renew the contract.

Well, at least it's more TV than CUSA!

Have fun playing on channels most people don't get. I'll take ESPN, even if it's on a Tuesday night.

WatchESPN is the name of the app you download that allows you to watch ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPN3 broadcasts on your Android, iPhone, Xbox, etc.

That isn't 100% accurate -- it is rather confusing, to be sure.

Basically it sets up like this, now: WatchESPN is the name of both the website and apps you can download to watch ESPN content. What content you have access to depends on your particular cable provider and ISP's deals with ESPN.

Through either the website or apps, if your video provider is a partner (as of now: AT&T U-Verse, Bright House, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Midcontinent, Optimum, Time Warner, Verizon), you can view streaming live any of the ESPN linear networks you subscribe to, except ESPNews (at this time). So if you have basic cable and get ESPN and ESPN2, that's what you'll be able to view through the site. If you have a package that includes ESPNU, you can stream ESPNU through the website -- same with Goal Line and Buzzer Beater. This is verified by logging in with your username and password for your video provider -- probably the one you use to pay the bill or access your account online.

ESPN3 is also available through the website or apps, however it is an online-only service which you gain access to through your ISP, rather than your cable provider (although obviously those may well be the same company). ESPN3 is available through a very long list of providers, and is also made available freely to anybody on a college campus or military base (your connection resolves to a .edu or .mil address). Programming on ESPN3 consists of exclusive games, like ours against North Texas, simulcasts of regional telecasts in out-of-market areas, as with the MAC Game of the Week broadcast package (which can be viewed online in areas not covered by broadcast partners), as well as any game available through ESPN's Game Plan PPV service.

ESPN3 also simulcasts some content available on ESPN, 2, and U -- this is part of where the confusion comes in. ESPN3 used to simulcast all live games on ESPN and 2, but not U. Now, games from all three are typically available, but only outside of peak viewing. Events which start between 12:01am and 5:59pm on weekdays, or 12:01am and 11:59am on weekends are simulcast on ESPN3. Obviously, this means the vast majority of football and basketball games broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU won't be available through ESPN3. However, these times are local to the user, so west-coasters would be able to catch Saturday games that started before 3pm Eastern, and virtually all weekday games (as long as they started before 9pm Eastern).

EDIT 9/9: This is no longer true, it appears simulcasting has ended for events on traditional networks over ESPN3. Replays of all games on the traditional networks are still available through ESPN3, usually a few hours after the game concludes.

One thing that's somewhat new this season (at least for CFB) is games scheduled on News, like ours against Marshall. Since the network isn't available through WatchESPN, I'm assuming the game would be made available nationally through ESPN3, but that is only a guess at this time.

EDIT 9/9: Just before college football season, ESPNews was added to WatchESPN. The same rules apply as to other networks: if you get News on cable/satellite, you'll get it online, and those games will be available for replay on ESPN3 later that day.

Who doesn't get Fox Sports 1, or FSN? CBS Sports is a little limited but the first two is in every home in America that has cable or Satellite.

I'm still getting NBCSN on the DirecTV Choice package, even though last week was supposed to be just a freebie (CBSSN reverted to being a premium service on 9/2).  I saw that Fox is after Big Tenfinity rights, which is no surprise since they provide the technical facilities for BTN.

No surprise about FOX - they actually own 49% of BTN, as well as providing facilities.

Due to the weather delay earlier for USF v Michigan State, today's Toledo Missouri game will be starting shortly on ESPNews.

Blackout map for NIU Kent on Time Warner -- I'd assume this will be typical, so satellite/non-TWC subscribers may want a backup plan for next weekend if they can't see NIU this afternoon.

Appears TWCS games will be on MAC-sports.com, regardless of blackout (so why black it out on 3 in the first place?).

You know, I was checking to see if the game is on ESPN3 and noticed that Stubhub had 7 tickets to the game available for $39 EACH (I presume)!  I couldn't believe they were trying to sell them for that price, so I tried to check the price on EMU's website but they just have a phone number for the ticket office.  Could that be the actual price?  If so, no wonder nobody shows up for their games.

BTW, ESPN now shows the EMU as being on ESPN3.

On vacation, so don't expect an update until next week, but everything for 10/20 not already televised will be on ESPN3 once again.

Yeah the ESPN Regional "MAC Game of the Week" package has included six games a year for the past few seasons (usually Saturday noon games), and WWHO has been a partner for a while now.

The individual games are distributed differently each week due to other network commitments (usually listed on the MAC TV release, which I probably should link to but often don't find time between when they post it and the games). For example, this week, because ABC had a noon national game, ABC affiliates that are part of the network either didn't carry the game, or did like WEWS in Cleveland, and pushed it to a .2 subchannel.

I'm confused.  Some games are listed as ESPN3 and others as WatchESPN.  Aren"t they different names for the same thing?  More the point, will I be able to watch the OHIO-BG tilt next week on the WatchESPN app on my AppleTV?

Check out my post from 7/25 (note that the parts in red are meant to be removed, but this editor didn't seem to have a strikethrough option. If that doesn't clarify, post back and let me know who your TV provider and ISP are, and I can probably let you know.

Alternatively, try to watch anything with ESPN3 next to it in the app, or a replay of an old game. If that works, you should be good to go.
