The CMU game is looming large right now. Blowouts happen when you're overmatched physically or mentally. But when you have a win in hand and let it slip away, that's careless. We were physically outplayed by CMU but still were only a few minutes away from a win. Losing that game really is the difference between having a good shot at a bowl and hoping for a miracle.
Different outlook. CMU was lucky to win that game. I felt it was hard fought and CMU caught a break. I would rather lose that way than get blown out by teams that should not be that much better. CMU was the only other MAC team to win a bowl last year. They just had the #1 in the NFL draft. NIU, Ohio and CMU are the three MAC teams with the most wins in recent years. CMU has players.
Ohio is still learning about winning. The key is to win the game before half, certainly before the fourth quarter. A lot of that is mental. Right now there are still teams in the MAC that are winning programs that don't get it, like Ohio fans get it, that they are supposed to lose to Ohio. Agreed, Ohio should be 8-4, hopefully the youngsters learned that lesson about putting away teams you should beat.
