If you are a fan and you don't want to go to a bowl game, then you are truly brain dead.  Please give me one good reason?  Not acceptable answers are:

- We would lose really bad.
- Bowl Games should be a reward.
- It cost too much.
- No fans will go so it is a waste.

None of these are accurate.  Recruiting, Exposure, and extra practice.....That trumps any crazy excuse some of you may have....

It doesn't seem that last year's extra bowl practices helped this year........

After the Kent debacle, my initial reaction was I'm not interested. I'm Coming around a little, but man those last few games have been a disaster any way you look at it. I don't think we deserve a bowl game, but many others don't either. I don't think we will get a bowl bid, regardless of the interest by any fans in a bowl.
If Ohio were to be picked to play in a bowl, my attendence would depend on the timing and the location rather than who we play. Many people have plans already made for the holidays and traveling to a bowl game when it is on TV sometimes makes no sense. Not exactly because or cost or being brain dead.
By the way, a fan not going to a game has absolutely no influence on exposure, practice, etc. the game will be played, only if a couple hundred Ohio fans are in the stands.

My above comments are about my attending a game. If you mean are we for Ohio going to a game, then all the reasons have been discussed in detail already. If Ohio doesn't lose a bunch on money, it's fine with me.

If OHIO goes to a bowl game, it undoubtedly means that NIU goes BCS bowling and that mean's OHIO gets a ton of cash from the BCS that'll at least cover our own bowl costs if not much more.

No one wanted OHIO in a bowl game last year either, and it turned out - we turned our season around in the end.

I want a bowl game so that Vick can start and get some real game experience just in case he will be the starter next year, but if we keep owing Tettleton then, no I don't want a bowl game. This

There is such value in a bowl bid that it is not possible to turn one down.

However, it would be a real shame if, in this particular case, a bowl bid would result in necessary sacrifice on the part of any other program.

I think that if they do get a bowl bid, then they should make sure to keep the expenses low enough that they don't lose money. If that means they travel by bus, and stay at the Super 8, then so be it.

If we go to a bowl game we have to treat it like any other year.

What do you think recruits will think?  Oh that Ohio team made a bowl game and they didn't take care of their players....

Let's use our heads here guys...

Notre Dame has turned down bids to bowls because they weren't worthy of the school's presence.

We don't have that problem.

We've had this discussion before. My opinion is that there are too many bowls and only some of them matter. Just like playing in the College Insider tourney in basketball. After 102 teams are playing in the NCAA and NIT, it just ain't that special.

Poinsettia Bowl Dec. 26th...HELL YEAH!  I'm in Denver for Christmas, so it is a short flight.  Let's face it, despite recent struggles, it in no way could turn out worse than the R&L Carriers Bowl.  End result of that: massive improvement in offensive scheme.  Can't see it now, but the O the year following the R&L was light years better than the year prior.

I definitely want to see Ohio in a bowl game. Regardless of the struggles we've had, ending the season in November is something I'm not used to anymore and I don't want to get used to. It's been since 2008 since we didn't go to a bowl game. Overall, it's just exciting during bowl season to know that my team is in one. Unlike Ohio State, who play for BCS bowls and are upset having to settle for anything less, with the MAC only having three primary tie-ins, I'm not picky about which one we go to. Poinsettia Bowl. Sounds great. BBVA Compass Bowl. Sounds great. Heart of Dallas Bowl. Again, sounds great. Back in 2010, when we were sweating it out to the last minute , I was thrilled when we were selected for the New Orleans Bowl. With all my heart, I want to be excited for a Bobcat bowl game in December.

I just heard Brady Hoke on the radio, and he says they are focused on Ohio this week. Odd. You'd think he'd be thinking about Ohio State. Maybe he's trying to find a way he can play the Bobcats in a bowl?

Well, the comparative scores -- Ohio vs. Akron and UMich v. Akron -- would indicate that's not a match up he should seek.  But, then, nobody ever accused him of being a rocket scientist.

I understand all the reasons we should go to a bowl if the opportunity comes up.  I am also warming up to it a bit but I don't have any high expectations for a great game..all possible opponents will have won at least 6 games..playing these kind of teams has not been our strong suit this year.

Agree.  I like Solich's comment.  We are not in any kind of position to turn down bowl invites.

We are not Notre Dame.   Big difference.   I suspect ND has no problems getting people to come to their school.  Heck We have problems simply getting recruits to realize Ohio U has a team and where we are located on the map.  So a bowl game will help that as seen in some of our recent success in recent recruiting classes.

I faintly recall seeing these same comments from posters last year.   I believe we were double digit underdogs and no one gave them a chance to even keep the game close.  Instead we broke 5 bowl records for offensive output.

We did have a wonderful bowl game, on both sides of the ball.  That doesn't change the fact that we have not played very well against teams with winning records this year.  That is all I am saying.

There are 5 teams in the MAC with a better record than Ohio. Do you think you can get a bowl invitation? Doesn't the MAC only have 3 bowl guarantees? I haven't heard much talk about conferences not being able to fill their bowl games either. I think bowl talk at this point is out the window.

With secondary tie-ins , the MAC could have 5 auto invites this year. If NIU makes the BCS, it would be 6. So, there's a chance. Not great, but a chance.

the only redeeming value of a bowl would be the extra practice sessions.  If I were king of college football, I would eliminate at least 50% of the bowls, and operate under the theory that going to a bowl game is an award for an exceptional regular season, not a 6-5 record.

By the way, I'd be interested in a SECRET ballot of the players to see whether they wanna go...

I read it.  I should have read the other threads before I posted.  I understand that Bobcat fans are upset with their record and the "2nd half of the season implosion", but I totally disagree with the "I don't want a bowl game" people.  If you are eligible and invited, then go enjoy the extra game, practices, and swag for the players.  Beat UMASS and win a bowl game and you get to 8 wins.  Not a bad season.
