WKU got a nice going away gift from the Sun Belt. 8-4 but no bowl ala MTSU last year.

This clearly illustrates how goofy this whole system is - BG wins the MAC and gets the absolutely worst bowl.
yeah, it just sucks for BG to be the only MAC team to play a P5 opponent, and to have to play on prime time the night before the NCG when no other bowls are on, and to have to play in a bowl that is so close to campus their entire fan base can easily get there by car. Those guys got screwed over big time.

With a win, this senior class could proclaim itself the meat and potato bowl champion.

We have to have the weakest resume of all bowl teams.  We don't stack up to Toledo or WKU.  I personally feel that Toledo's schedule was so much better than ours or WKU that their 7-5 was more impressive than WKU's 8-4.  I have to wonder what it was that caused Ohio to get the bid and Toledo to stay home.  I guess that we will probably never know exactly.  If I were a Rocket I'd be pretty upset.

At least the vast majority of their fans refer to us as Ohio.  I can't disagree with what most are saying but I am not about to look a gift horse in the mouth here.

It's a credit to the fact that the "Ohio" brand has gained tremendous strength over the last decade. A decade ago "Toledo" was a reasonably strong brand, and "Ohio" was pretty much unknown. Today "Ohio" brings decent TV ratings, and that matters.

ESPN has Toledo listed as the bowl opponent vs ecu on the app but the website is different. Congrats on the bowl.

This helped open the door for us to get an invite.  I'm thinking about adding the Sun Belt and Terry Bowden (for beating Toledo) to my holiday card list this season.

+1

This season has been incredibly frustrating to watch. The offensive playcalling, QB play, special teams mishaps and collapse of our defense at years end... Blah.
But with all of that, I just cant bash Frank and the staff too much. This staff has built this program into a brand that has been relevant lately. That does matter. A lot.

Some Toledo fans want to compare the population of Toledo to the population of Athens. But we aren't Athens University. We are Ohio University. Our brand stretches outside of one corner of the state. That matters.

Remember this time last year? Disappointing end to the regular season then we rolled in the Bowl game. That is what I am hoping for.

I had similar thoughts when reading their comments on the UT board.  We are kind of an unique entity in the MAC, along with a handful of other schools, in that we have a true residential campus where the majority of our students are completely immersed in the culture of school, as opposed to a more commuter based university which many of our fellow MAC institutions are.  It breeds a deeper and wider fan base in my opinion.  I have heard it mentioned on here that after OSU there are more Ohio/OU decals etc. on cars than any other school in the Columbus area and that it's not even close.  I would say here in Cincinnati its UC and Xavier of course, then Miami, Ohio, then others, including OSU.  Buckeye spirit is not as strong here as it is in other parts of the state.

Nominated for the understatement of the year.  Not to mix sports, but I think a good deal Bucknuts support there might have left in the early 1960s as a result of UC-Evil Empire NCAA Championship basketball encounters.

A silver lining to NIU loss that cost us $$$. It knocked NIU down a peg and propels BG's coach out the door. Then we slap Toledo in the face by taking the last bowl bid. This bowl is huge for recruiting last minute Florida players. The gap between Ohio and the top of the MAC was cut in half by the events of this weekend.

The central 1/2 of the state is economically dependent on Columbus and with 80,000 system wide OSU students. Buckeye interest is much lower once you get outside of a 90 minute radius from Columbus. Northeast Ohio doesn't have a quality public university in it to steal interest. With all due respect Akron and Kent State are second tier public universities.

OT, but related: Has anyone else seen the car commercial with Santa Claus, and there's some comment about Santa having to go "north," and the guy in the dealership asks "Where 'north'?" And Santa says, "Akron," and the guy in the dealership says, "Oh, Akron is nice."

Everytime I see that commercial I laugh and say, "No it isn't."

I have a girlfriend who works for a Senator as a regional representative. Two hours a day on the phone discussing holiday plans must be rubbing off, haha. In all seriousness drafting business proposals all day where you have to spin your organizations capabilities does that to you.

This is the dream. Ohio wins the BOB bowl with a local 4 star JUCO QB in attendance who immediately signs with Ohio. Ball State, BG and NIU lose their coach in the off season. The schedule comes out in March and we have NIU at home and Ball State on the road. The JUCO QB wins the Ohio job in impressive fashion by the Spring game. Next fall during the MAC play Ohio wins the East and then goes on to beat Toledo by 30 points in the MAC championship game. From terrible to MAC Champions in one year's time.

Kent is second tier.  Akron is a low third-tier.
