I see this going one of two ways: repeat of the FIPB (trailing until late and squeaking it out) OR R&L Carriers (blowout city).  Hoping for the former.

If I was anywhere near Vegas, I'd be betting on the Pirates.  Just about everyone I know who has had a conversation with a football player makes me think this one will not be close at all.  Luckily for me there is a good chance I'll be on the road and won't have to watch.

Oh good, hearsay about hearsay.  My most recent memories of the Cats are good.  They are getting healthy.  Have you all bought your donation tickets for kids?  This is something we can do.  We, fans, need to do our part and let the team worry about their part.

I wouldn't wish this team on my worst enemy...let alone disadvantaged youths!

Here we go again. Paul, this is where you were before the Independence Bowl last year. Remember? How did that work out? It is a shame that some losses to good teams has wiped out all the good these seniors have done for Ohio. Fortunately that is not how everyone feels.

Yes Bcat, this is becoming a yearly pattern.

(1) Team starts strong
(2) Team melts down in MAC play
(3) Team receives bowl bid despite circling the toilet
(4) Bowl game offers donation tickets for children
(5) Bcat2 encourages BA'ers to donate tickets
(6) Paul Graham makes crack about how Ohio's play may terrify and permanently scar these youngsters
(7) Bcat2 takes the bait and attacks the heretic Paul Graham
(8***) Team triumphs in bowl game, children of the world rejoice in song

Lets hope 8 actually happens again in 2013

The pessimism on the board toward this game actually makes me feel a tad optimistic. I've always been kind of a contrarian and when most think we are going to get smacked, it might just be time to think the opposite is going to occur.  I remember all the optimism before the Beefs game . . .

ECU looked pretty bad at Marshall, and they've played a pretty weak schedule overall.

hmmm....road wins at UNC and NC State plus a very close home loss to Va Tech isn't too shabby.  I know CUSA is a small step above dumpster fire for a conference, but I'd say their schedule wasn't too bad

I think the reference was to their conference schedule. In their crossover games they missed NTSU, RIce, and UTSA, just as Ohio missed NIU, Ball State, and Toledo. Then they lost to the #4 team from the other side, Tulane, just as Ohio lost to CMU. Meanwhile they were 4-0, playing 4 of the 5 CUSA teams with 2 or less conference wins.

Is your defense really that good to hold us almost 20 points below our average. The only team to really completely stop our offense was VT and we held them to 15 points with a chance to drive and tie the game or take the lead in the 4th only down 3 but then got sacked for a safety. We dropped a likely Pick 6 that would also have given us the win. Yes we completely got rocked against Marshall at Marshall which is a team that you have beaten but the transitive property doesnt work very well in determining the outcome of football games. Im sure Ohio has talent just like we have talent some of which is underrated. Some of our best players werent even heavily recruited. Its going to be determined by coaching and execution and which team executes the best should win the game. Outside of that one game we have won or been in every game this year. When we have won we have won big. If we get the ball to open the game and start off with a TD watch out but if you hold us to a FG then you have a chance.

When our defense is playing well, we get pressure on the QB and force turnovers. And when our offense is playing well, we take advantage of those turnovers and score points. That's what Ohio has to do to win. We aren't going to win a shootout with you because our offense isn't consistent enough to score every possession, and we aren't going to completely shut down your offense because our D just isn't good enough to do that.

My reasoning is that our QB is 2 for 2 in bowl games.  In his sophomore year, he willed us to win against a Utah State team that was probably better than us.  I am betting that in one of his last chances to shine, he does. We shall see, that is why I will be in front of my TV on Monday.  If I lived in NC, I would have probably tried to make it to the game.  Good luck!

Thats a fair assessment. If that is the case tomorrow and we do turn the ball over and take sacks then you guys definitely  have a chance to beat us. Our Oline while solid at times has given up sacks in bunches in a few games. Carden is a really good QB but didnt have a great game against Marshall. If we stop the run like we are capable of doing then I think we win. I just want to see a well played game thats injury free.

Didn't I read that ECU's o-line is pretty solid with some Large Persons at the guard positions?  Teams that have brought that have given us trouble this year.

ECU - 44
Ohio - 13

I think one has the potential to get ugly quick.  Unlike last year when the lay-off between the regular season and the Independence Bowl served to get the team a little healthier, I don't think this year's lay-off will help what has hurt this team.  The problems this team has seem more mental than anything else.  The Ohio that beat Marshall and North Texas hasn't been seen in 3 months.  And ECU is probably the 2nd best team Ohio has faced this year.  Hopefully come Tuesday morning I look like an idiot with this prediction.

Mark you normally post in a larger font so if you are wrong you have plausible deniability that you actually posted the message above. With that said, if we do not open up the running game with the old read-option that includes some QB runs, I think the score you predicted is about right.

Sorry about the font size-I typed the post from an iPad and I didn't have the option to change the font size (or at least I thought I didn't).

That being said, I am wearing my Ohio Bobcats Football sweatshirt that celebrates consecutive bowl victories printed after the Independence Bowl win (courtesy of the College Book Store) at work today for good luck, so GO BOBCATS!!

ECU 40
Ohio 20

Tough to be cheery about this after what we saw in the Buffalo-BG-Kent trifecta. If the quarterback formerly known as Tyler Tettleton makes an appearance we have a chance but I don't think he works here anymore.

We are pretty big up front. Some of the guys we have havent played a whole lot. One of our starting OL had an Detached Retina and players had to fill in for him. One of our OL is a sophomore at 6'7" over 300 lbs. We average over 300lbs up front at about 6'4".
