52-7 ECU

I want to believe we can hang with them...but they have shown me nothing since the Akron win to give me hope.  Lifeless, lackluster wins vs. EMU, Miami & UMass coupled with blowout losses to UB, BG & Kent....and the dreadful HC loss to CMU.  I just don't think this team will rally.

I'm happy we made a bowl...great exposure.  Good for the media guide (5 straight bowls)......but unfortunately, I think this is another embarrassment on national TV.

ECU senior class has never won a bowl game......and their head coach Ruffin McNeill is one of the best motivators I've been around in college football.  Kids love him!  ECU wants to go out with bang......

Unfortunately, our team has merely shown it wants to go out.  First sign of adversity, they'll quit and ECU will roll it up.

I hope I'm wrong.....

38-20 ECU. I really hope I'm wrong and the team comes out fired up after a disappointing second half of the season like last year. Last game for this great group of seniors. Time to open up the playbook and throw it around.

If TT runs it himself sometimes on the option and limits Beau up the middle:

OHIO 48
ECU 21
If TTdoesn't
If TT doesn't run and we become very one dimensional:

ECU 62
OHIO 9

ECU is a good team. We are going to give up at least 30 points. Its just a matter if we can score that many or not.

I think we can win this one.  ECU is a team that has shown flashes of brilliance, but let's also not forget they also were blasted at Marshall and playing an "inferior MAC school" with a 7-5 record in a bowl a lot of their fans think is beneath them.

I can see this being a game like last year's Independence Bowl.  It's going to be a matter of which offense decides to show up.  But I don't think we can get into a shootout with these guys or they will beat us.

I wouldn't say they think (or their fans) that this bowl is beneath them?  They're in the CUSA.  They're champion plays in the Liberty Bowl.  Not exactly the glitz & glamour of a New Year's Day bowl.  This is what ECU is used to playing in....and they haven't won a bowl game in nearly a decade.  They will be more than geared up for this game.  Just hope Ohio is.....because if not, what BG, Buffalo & Kent did to us will feel like a swedish massage.

Who is going to be this year's T. Scott.....the guy that shows up and takes over the game defensively? I don't suppose Branz will be back. Can Bashem or Sayles dominate like Tremayne last year?

Well, we're done with CUSA football forever thank god. During our time in that league, we amassed a near 80% in conference win percentage. I don't think this bowl is beneath us, just not what we had hoped for. There was little doubt when we f'd up against Marshall that CUSA was going to screw us on the bowl situation.

I'll say

ECU 52
Ohio 24

No score prediction yet--gotta do some more homework on the opponent.

If I were FS, here would be my first play.  I'd run the equivalent of NIU's jet sweep where the guy comes in motion before the snap and Lynch would hand off or fake it and take off up the middle.

I'd tell the motion man to not really go to close to TT on this play and make TT run it the first play.  The results of his reaction would be whether I'd continue playing him.

If he hits the hole hard then perhaps we've got OUr man back--here's hoping the 2011 TT makes a final appearance for the Green and White.

Now on the defensive side I'd tell Mr. Carrie that he's got a BIG job to do with shutting down the stud--all by himself.  Let the DB's for two weeks watch the films of how MSU db's shut down Braxton and his receivers, holding them to 100 yards passing.  The DB's need to get in the opponents shorts and stay with the receivers everywhere.  If the DLine and backers cannot handle the run than OHIO will be in trouble because they shouldn't be expecting too much support from the DB's stuck like glue to their man.

Let's see some of that early season sack attack from the Cats too!

35-28

Our defense only gives up a lot of points when our offence plays bad. Don't expect anything in the thirties or higher. Our offence is going to come out firing and have a great game.

So have the fans or players seen Tyler up the middle in the past 18 months?

Some have been seduced that Beau up the middle is bad--how'd that work for OHIO in 2012?

What is needed for Beau up the middle to work is for number 4 to keep the pigskin once every 4-5 plays or so.. Than Beau up the middle has merit.

Interestingly, teams did not honor what we did in 2012 by allowing us to do it in 2013.  I do not understand this.

No, actually.  This is not interesting at all.

I want to join the cynics and predict an easy win for ECU...but for as bad as we looked down the stretch, ECU looked pretty bad at Marshall, and they've played a pretty weak schedule overall.  It will be high scoring, and I just see our offense just barely not able to keep pace...ECU 42 Ohio 38

If I was anywhere near Vegas, I'd be betting on the Pirates.  Just about everyone I know who has had a conversation with a football player makes me think this one will not be close at all.  Luckily for me there is a good chance I'll be on the road and won't have to watch.

Our players are bad mouthing? No offense, but that's hard to believe. I hope it's not true.

Oh good, hearsay about hearsay.  My most recent memories of the Cats are good.  They are getting healthy.  Have you all bought your donation tickets for kids?  This is something we can do.  We, fans, need to do our part and let the team worry about their part.

I'd be surprised if they weren't. This group is used to winning...and then they get blown out by teams like Kent, at home! Steamrolled by every above average MAC opponent they play. I'd be shocked if there was dissent and finger pointing within the ranks.

I think you mean you'd be "shocked if there wasn't dissent and finger pointing. In any case, they have a couple weeks to have some meetings, and rebuild team spirit, and re-focus. Will they? Ask me after the game, but I'm guessing they will regroup and play well. It's the last game for the Seniors, after all, and the first bowl for all the Freshmen and most of the Sophomores that are playing.

Here we go again. Paul, this is where you were before the Independence Bowl last year. Remember? How did that work out? It is a shame that some losses to good teams has wiped out all the good these seniors have done for Ohio. Fortunately that is not how everyone feels.

I....actually kind of like our chances in this one. From what I've gathered from our ECU friends here, some Marshall fans I know, and the Internet generally, the things we want to do on offense (deep passes set up by the run) are things ECU is weak against. And the things our defense tends to be best at (rushing the passer, playing tight coverage) are the things that are most effective against the ECU offense.

Attitude is the X factor. Do the players actually want to play anymore after the disappointing November? I hope they come out like they did after last year's November disappointment. The seniors should bring it in their last game in the green and white....but who are next year's leaders? We'll find out.

Imma say........Ohio 30, ECU 28
