I said well over 200, not 200. I got the impression they are pleased with sales so far and we still have a week to go.

This notion that "Ohio doesn't travel well" is completely ridiculous. The majority of the road games I have attended the past couple years have been strong showings.

I just looked at the Ball State offerings for their bowl game which is listed in the news here today. Other than a discount at the Marriott, there's not many bargains there-$465-$745 for their bus trip, and $40 for their pre-game event. I would have liked to have seen a package offered to our fans, but understand that with so short a lead time and a scattered fan base, it's not easy to do. I don't see any student trip offered there either.

It's still well over a week before the game. I think 200 at this point is pretty good. Nobody thought we're bringing 5,000 fans down or something....

Well, besides the ones coming down, there are the 3000 fans sprawling across Florida.

There are road games, and there are long road games. This is a long road game, on short notice, during the holidays. Not expecting many fans here, apparently the only person that did was the bowl director.
I have to say that the number of Ohio fans that were present at the away games that I have attended over the last 6-8 years was pretty low. But my sample size is relatively small-10-12 games. Northwestern and Penn State were the only games that had a pretty good showing in my opinion.
Anyway, I'm not doubting that Ohio travels about as well as anyone in the MAC, but that is faint praise to say the least.

Realistically...how many of our fans would:

1. Want to take a 20 hour bus ride?
2. Be willing to pay $500+ for it?

It would maybe fill up a single bus. Maybe. Otherwise, pony up and get a flight.

I can't believe they'll get 40 adults to do that. My question is that's the best they can do? Our U is smarter than to even try that. It sounds more like torture than a fun trip.

to my knowledge, they have never officially released the numbers. However, there is usually a final accounting of the numbers when the financial gain/loss of doing a bowl comes out. You can back into the numbers that way. This is sort of like the season ticket and game ticket sales-they never release real numbers-just total dollars, increases over past years, etc. I don't think anyone really wants to know the real numbers-they would likely be pretty scary,

Blee--why so sensitive?  You appear to be unopen to the possibility that we played some pretty punk ball over the last second half of the season..  The lousy games are pretty much a fact; how can you deny them.  So, hoping that we show up OHIO and not getslappedaround is not an unreasonable thought.

hashtag take off the green-colored glasses and try to see just a bit of reality.

hashtag why don't you post under your real name and tell us who you are so that we can judge the likelihodd that you're baised.

Me?  I'm just a huge OHIO fan.  No tie to any coach or player.

Monroe, you have "no tie to any coach or player" and are a "huge fan?" I have been unable to avoid ties to coaches and players. Just can't help it. The things the coaches, Moore, TT, Beau, Carrie, Foster, Lechner, Prior, Hill, Branz, Waters, Boykin, McGrath, Shaw, Mario and others have done for Ohio make it impossible for me to throw them under the bus. Their body of work deserves better than, "What have you done for me lately?." You don't have to judge weather I am biased, I am. I am biased in favor of those who have earned my respect. They will have my support thru thick and thin. Right now I am relaxed, the Cats most recently rolled up 50+ and the next opponent just gave up 59 to a team they beat. This can go either way and either way I will remain between the team and the bus you want to throw them under. Have a nice day.

There is nothing wrong at all with getting close to the players and coaches.  The problem is that you post anonymously, denying us the ability to judge who you are and what bias you may have.

Also, look up the definition of 'throw under the bus.'  I think that you'll find that objective appraisal of performance does not qualify as 'throw under the bus.'  If I perform poorly, then judging my performance as poor is not 'throw under the bus.'

Your inability to be the least bit objective is the problem.

Stop giving everyone a trophy for everything

Well I hope Frank and Co. turns this thing around and can get a good start for 2014. Recruits take notice of post season appearances, and the extra practices help.  A win or good showing is at least a must or else it will be a long and complain filled off season. I can't believe I'd see the day where people would be ho-hum about a Bobcat bowl game. 3 bowl wins in a row is a pretty big deal!

Here's the ESPN crew for the bowl-

Beth Mowins
Joey Galloway
Paul Carcaterra

hopefully Rich and Rob will be synced with the broadcast otherwise I might accidentally jam a pencil in my ear.

We should stop this petty bickering and be in awe that our Bobcats will be on the hallowed ground that John Flaherty, Quinton McCracken, Albie Lopez, Greg Vaughn and a washed up Juan Guzman once trod.

Don't know anything specific about the ticket sales for this bowl game.  However, several years ago when I went to the GMAC Bowl (now GoDaddy!) there was a rather large discrepancy between the reported sales through the Ohio ticket office and the actual number of Bobcat fans there.  Many folks, including my party, were frustrated with the arcane ticket sales system on ohiobobcats.com and just ordered tickets directly from the bowl.  In my estimation (Alan disagreed with me at the time) the actual number of OHIO fans there was about four times the reported sales via the Ohio ticket office.
