It's good we get Kent early, just in case we melt down in November again. This way we actually have a chance of staying within two scores of them.

Disagree that injuries were at more than a normal level for us last year.
Also, kents wasn't just Archer and Nix.  We could beat them.  And that would be a great start.  But with a whole new backfield on offense and no returners who were clearly top-MAC last year, we are an unknown quanity.

I just don't see us being more than a 50-50 team next year.  I think WMU (we'll see how good their 3-star guys are), CMU (took us to the woodshed) and NIU (class of the conference) is a lot like looking at 3 losses from teams in the West.  Throw in BG and maybe even the Buffs that are getting better from the East and then Marshall and UK and you easily have 7 losses.  So, barring upsets one way or the other I think we're gonna struggle or not gonna be good at all.

You certainly have a different definition of "woodshed" than I do.  To me that term implies total domination -- not losing a game in the last two minutes due to a muffed punt.

You are correct in stating that we played Akron, up there, in the opening game of 2001, Knorr's first season as head coach.
However, if my memory is correct, Akron was not initially scheduled as our opener.
I believe that our opener was scheduled, as it had been in 1998, at North Carolina State.  However, I
believe that they asked us to switch this game to be the final game of our 2001 schedule, and we agreed to
do so, leaving our original second game, Akron, as our opener.

If I am recalling correctly - and I think I am because we were planning to attnd the game in Raleigh.

Ohio opened at Akron. Fans - Monroe was sitting with me - could see almost immediately that Coach Knoor was ill-prepared to be a head coach. I am referring not so much to play calling as leadership and management of his staff.

Lynne and I drove to Morgantown for Game 2 and, per our plan, afterward continued driving south to visit Jim Grobe at Wake and then head to Raleigh for the NC State game. BUT, then came 9/ll and games, including Ohio vs NC State, were postponed. Later the NC State game was re-scheduled as the season ender.

Agree this was not a "woodshed" beat down. We played poorly through most of the game, if i remember correctly, but we were still very much in it until the muffed punt return.

And it can't be blamed on injuries.

The Kent game is HUGE. Ohio has to win that game. If the Bobcats can't pull that one out, the possibility of starting 0-3 becomes very, very real. And starting 0-3 has never been a good thing for any program, let alone this one. A 1-2 record would never look better than it will this fall if we can beat one of those three.

Would I love to see Ohio win two or all three of those? Yes. But that is a very tall order for a team introducing a new starting QB.

Kentucky is going to be much improved if anyone has paid attention to the recruits coming into Lexington. And Stoops has them playing a lot better than the past two years.

Marshall must want back in the MAC because they play Miami, Ohio and Akron in three of their first four games. BTW, hope they enjoy C-USA because this schedule looks like they are playing back in the FCS again:

Should make us damn glad that we didn't join CUSA.  At least Terd should win their division.  They only have three teams on their conference schedule that are any good: MTSU, WKU and Rice.

And with Tulsa going to the AAC, the title game doesn't really provide much potential pop either. Although Tulsa had an awful 2013.

I'm sure you guys saw the game...sounds like revisionist history where the score was in no way indicative of the game.  To put it simply, they were the first to flat out kick our butts in the trenches.  That's what i mean by being taken to the woodshed, not necessarily the final score.
