Opening with three on the road isn't optimal, but on the plus side we're not getting any short weeks (< 7 days) during MACtion.

Western plays only 5 at home!

Central has the best chance to make a splash--Kansas (away) and Syracuse (home)

I hope OHIO isn't playing Akron on HC because living near Akron, I am seeing that match-up every other year as it is.

Speaking of Akron, they have OHIO's last season cake schedule--how likely is it that Akron will do better than what OHIO posted in '13?

Bold and likely unpopular opinion: the 2014 Cats win more games than 2013's team.

FYI, Holiday Inn Express and Hampton are still taking reservations for Homecoming in case you want to book.  They are usually on hold so act now if you want to book.

14 week schedule with first bye not until Week 10, and its a short bye of 9 days, second bye in Week 12 for 13 days. not good.

once gain WMU does not play any weeknight MACtion games (except the last week when everyone either plays on tues or fri). They've only played a weeknight game once. I figured this was deliberate by Cubit but thought Fleck would be all over it, being the self promoting lout that he is. Wonder why they are steadfastly not participating in MACtion.

Is the homecoming game confirmed? Is it BG on 10/11?

Yes, according to the 110's FB page it is 10/11.

With the way WMU played last year, would you want to be seen on TV?

I swear, we've played Toledo like one time in the last 6 years. It's like we're in different conferences.

Given our record against them since I was in school in the 1960s that's a very good thing.

From an excitement standpoint, I don't like this schedule. Really wish we could have been home Week 1 with our OOC road games in Week 2 and Week 3.

New starting backfield, three on the road to start the season--kents we've not been able to beat, is Kentucky any good, and a good stupd cow team that gets us at home and has got to be angry at their recent inability to beat us.  We need to overcome this.  'cause if we start poorly, the casual fans will turn away right quick.

I bet there's a lot more variety in the picks in this year's pigskin prognosticator. Most any game on that list could be won, or could be lost.

I don't see why that would be unpopular.

I don't see why that would be unpopular.

Only in that prevailing wisdom is likely we will struggle v the last few seasons.

That only makes the opinion uncommon, not unpopular.

I like that we have maybe four of the six toughest MAC games at home -- Buffalo, Akron (they improved a lot at the end of '13), BG & NIU.  I'd rather have the tough teams at home.  I expect us to win five or six in the MAC this season.  Kentucky is probably more winnable than Terd, but if we win either of those we should finish no worse than 8-4.  EIU will be the game to look out for.  They almost beat NIU last year.  We haven't lost to a 1AA school under Solich, but this could be the first.  Opening at Kent isn't so bad.  They won't have Nix or Archer, so they'll probably be worse off than we will be.  We need to corral Durham.

Actually, I hate opening against a MAC opponent. The last time I remember that happening was an opening contest at Akron in, I think, Brian Knorr's inaugural game as head coach. I remember at the time hating the idea of opening the season against an in-conference rival, not something new Coach Knorr needed.

Turned out just as horrible as I had feared.

And the rest, is history.

During Knorrmageddon, I don't think it would have mattered when we played Akron or who we would've opened against.

Kent will be a completely different team based on graduations of key players.
I doubt that their dominance of us will continue this year.

We need a break with the injury bug, we are due.

If we can make it through those first 3 weeks with 2 victories that would be a huge success and then the schedule would look much more appealing after that.  Problem is, 0 victories is far more likely than 3.

Beat Kent State, then try to steal a victory from Kentucky or Marshall.

I don't think we'd be "stealing a victory" from either Marshall or UK.  We've owned Marshall in recent years and the last time we played UK we beat them with Knorr as HC.  Last year UK was beaten by WKU.  They are no SEC giant, and beating them would not be giant killing.  That said, they will both be tough games, but winnable.
