Just got a text that Joey Burrow verbally committed to osu today.   And now a second text.

Talk about a gut punch...geesh. Couldn't have picked a worse destination. This hurts.

Pretty big news for Joey.  Also big for Athens...having a local kid get a full ride to OSU to play QB...

Nice for him, good for Athens HS football program and close to home so family and friends can see him play. Best wishes for an outstanding career!

If true, I hope the young man gets to play.  It would be shame for him to end up sitting on the bench somewhere for 4-5 years.  And, OSU is one of the dozen or so places that can happen to 4 star kids with real NFL potential.

Why??!! Anywhere else!  I knew it was a longshot for OHIO, but why osu??  Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out of Athens.

Way to keep it classy at a 17 year old kid.

He's made his choice. Now we just need to move on, and find another QB for this recruiting class.

What about Miami or Marshall?

Yeah, great news. A reason for people in Athens to kiss the ass of the 800-lb gorilla.

and even after that happens, they may get their combine shot anyway due to the level of coaching, exposure, dare I say, talent.  Mildly disappointing for optimistic Bobcats but it's really hard to say that this is a bad choice for the young man.

I can see him taking his chances at the highest level. If OSU does not work out he will still have the chance to transfer to a school where he can see the field.  There are lots of examples of this occurring.

Yeah, it'll be pretty funny if meyer wins the title next year, then decides to retire.

Honestly, I'd rather him go to either of those places than the school up Route 33. I hold some level of respect for those schools (more so for Miami) but absolutely none for the other guys. Just a total gut punch. Ugh.

Pick anywhere. ANYWHERE but there. WVU, Cincinnati, Marshall, UT-Martin, I don't care. Just not "them".

This sets back Ohio Football 20 years, I'm telling you. The local sheep that don't even follow O$U now have a reason to. Just awful...

As a local fan "Outstanding ! " Good luck Joe and I look forward to seeing you on the field this year for the Bulldogs. I'll once again be at all the Ohio home games and a couple of road games. Watching the Cats and listening to TOSU. Some of you need to get over your inferiority complex and be happy with your own school / team .

As usual I guess I'm in the minority but good for this young man!   I'm part of 3 generations of Ohio Lembright graduates so to say I'm an Ohio honk is an understatement, yet if my son could get a full ride and possibly play QB at a BCS school in front of 100,000 on a regular basis you can sure bet he's going to the big school, OSU included.  Why begrudge this young man such an opportunity?  I mean, I love Ohio but c'mon, in football it's small time in comparison.   I've gone to games at The Big House and ITS AN EVENT.  Going to a game at Peden is fun and is wonderful, especially on a beautiful Fall day in October but it's not an event.  Good for young Mr. Burrow and I wish him well.

what is it with buckeye fans accusing everyone of having a complex?  Give me a break. No group of fans IN THE UNITED STATES has a bigger complex than buckeye fan. Ever tell a buckeye fan that you live in columbus and don't worship their school? They act like you just kicked their dog, slapped their wife and knocked up their daughter. So, shove it with your complex.

Agree. If we have a complex, then theirs is far worse. Literally, anything that goes against their version of the universe is shot down.

And as for Burrow, I'm happy he's a gifted athlete and earned these sort of offers. I just wish he would have picked somewhere else. IMO, he may wish that too after a few years of not seeing the field. Clearly "name" was more important than playing time to him. Everyone has their criteria, but personally I'd rather play. To each their own.

No "If's" about it the inferiority complex runs rampant on this site. Many Buckeye fans also have one, it only seems worse because there are many more of them .

Nitwit.  Comment as worthless as a Miami diploma...make sure you tell his Dad that next time you see him.

In today's world a player can make it all the way to Heisman candidate and on the the NFL from the Mid American Conference, ie. Jordan Lynch & Ben Rothlesberger.
Just think how he could have continued to elevate the program further.
I'm disappointed.

Obviously it's no surprise he chose OSU once they offered, but still doesn't have to mean that all Ohio fans have to like it. Once the offers started rolling in I never realistically thought he was coming here. Just would have been less a kick in the gut if he would have gone somewhere else instead.  It will now be that much more difficult having to put up with the endless OSU talk.  Oh well, I'm really not rooting against the kid, just the school he chose.  I would have felt the same way if Tariq would have went to OSU instead of Tennessee for basketball.
