Great news. I love this rivalry.

So in 2020 ____ Field at Peden stadium will host Marshall and Cincinnati, right? Get your season tickets now!

Speaking of the Herd, saw today on Phil Steele's website that he lists them at #19 in his Top 25, ahead of the likes of Texas, Michigan, Florida, Clemson, Washington, Va. Tech and others. Can't wait till the magazine comes out tomorrow to look at some other things.

Both schools have above-average attendance and below-average traveling expenses for these games. Continuing it seems like an obvious choice.

Checks Chuck Landon Chart of Acceptability.

This is a 4.7 on his 6.4 scale.

Only if Ohio agreed to play the game wearing dunce caps with Frank Solich in a giant bird cage along the sideline would this game be completely acceptable.

Wow, just checked out their roster.  They have a ton of FL and GA kids.  Call them Florida Northern University I guess.  Wonder if that is part of the resaon for their expected success?

I would call them the University of Non-Qualifiers.

am I reading this right, we won't be playing each other from 2016-2018? Why take 3 years off to let the rivalry cool off?

By then, Marshall will be in the Big Ten, I'm surprised they would play us at all.

This is ridiculous - how do you take 3 years off from our best rivalry?  By the time we play again none of the roster will remember the animosity and the games won't mean as much.  I feel cheated, and the players should too.

If we really are taking three seasons off from this rivalry, that is crazy.

I wonder what the non-conference schedule for the 16-18 seasons is going to look like. 2016 is only two years away and at Kansas is the only game we know of, right? I'm with everyone else here in thinking that it's too bad that Marshall isn't on the schedule for those years.

My educated guess is that this was a Marshall decision. They have decided they want to bring in a mix of upper tier G5 schools for a 1 and 1 instead of Ohio every year. Signed East Carolina for 2020 and 2021 back in April. Navy for 2021 and 2022. It looks like they are still willing to play Ohio but trying to move away from the Miami's and Akron's since CUSA is full of weak competition already. I'd like to see some AAC schools on the schedule for Ohio like Temple and Memphis with a return basketball game.

I feel like "Herd and Bobcats ink new series" is burying the lead, the real story is the unexplained 3 year layoff when the series is obviously popular with both fan bases. Hope we find out why this happened.

Apparently it was Marshall's decision not to continue the series. There are rumors that Marshall is working on a series with their biggest rival, WVU. Apparently Marshall might be willing to back off from their demand for a one for one series with WVU. This position plus wvu going to a new conference killed the series.

Toledo, Miami or Ohio U are interchangeable to most Marshall fans. I think most fans would be happy with alternating among those schools since it would give them short trips to visit different locations.

Yes - this is what I'm thinking too.  Use a little combination scheduling for both sports.  It seems to me it could help both teams to take this approach.

I know I'm in the minority here on this, but I do not care if this game disappears.

I've got mixed feelings too. On the one hand, there's history and geography at play, and it's been one of our best rivalry games, not just recently but for decades. All else being equal, it SHOULD be played. On the other hand, all else isn't equal. College football is changing, and if we are going to move the program forward, we have to aspire to something more than an OOC rivalry with Marshall.

Don't get me wrong....I really like playing (and beating....especially beating) Marshall. But at this point I think I'd rather see an extension of the UC home-and-home series than Marshall.

Where are people seeing/hearing this about a wvu series? I haven't heard a peep.

I'm also disappointed we'll be taking a 3 year break. Even with adding wvu we'd still have an open game in '16, '17, and two in '18. Ohio has three openings in each of those years.

Well, here's a rumor for you:  Ohio is going to ink a series with WVU before Marshall.  OUr AD has a lot of connections with Morganhole.

Right, a member of a conference that has every directional Michigan team should expect more than an OOC rivalry with a more established football program that is 81 miles away.

Would Marshall rather have an annual rivalry series with Ohio or WVU? Don't kid yourself....you know the answer isn't Ohio. I don't believe that Ohio is Marshall's Super Bowl, and you shouldn't believe that Marshall is ours.

Also, EAST Carolina, MIDDLE Tennessee, Florida ATLANTIC, SOUTHERN Mississippi, NORTH Texas........C-USA is just as directionally challenged as the MAC.

But I forget....Terd logic = it's still 1999

let's not allow the Herd trolls to deflect from the topic and devolve this conversation into a whole "you're not breaking up with me, I'm breaking up with YOU!" argument.

We can all agree that the series is fun and good for both schools, there is no downside. If one side needs to take a break it should be for a year, maybe two. Three is too long. Locking down 1 of 4 OOC games a year shouldn't prevent a program from achieving its scheduling goals.
