I say we go 3-0 to start. Why?  Because I am a fan of Green Kool-Aid and I don't like Kent, I will be at the Kentucky game (we have to win as pay back for the trip to Louisville I suffered through last year) and it's Marshall who is better than us (not really).

Again Im having trouble responding.  to a previous quote.  I had to submit without any comments then go back and edit.  Is anyone else having trouble.

Regarding the 3-0 start.  I really hope our D can cause Kato fits like they've done in the past.  Seems like he gets rattled easy.

Does anyone know if we are going to have general seating again like last time we played there.   They had OU fans spread out all over the stadium vs having us all together.

With the exception of the chairback section between the 40s, the entire western side of the stadium is general admission. When I was there two years ago it seemed like most OHIO fans congregated in the sections closest to the scoreboard.

OK, I'm ready for the green kool-aid. But the first round needs to be mixed with some vodka so we can kill the memories of the recent November disappointments.

We're young, hungry, and we got nothing to lose. Let's do this.

Seriously?  9 days out from what has all the appearances of being a rOUsing season and the Hibbetts store in Jackson has almost four times as many posts as this thread?

Come on.

Well, Monroe, it's not Penn St and it's not L'ville.  Kent as the first game doesn't have the anticipation level that the past two seasons did.

Plus, for the first time in three or four years it's really tough to gauge what to expect from the Ohio football team.  I'm looking forward to getting the season going.  But I really don't know what to expect.

Interesting point, Pataskala. This is the first time since the 2011 season we won't open the season with a NATIONAL TV GAME. So there's probably a little less hype than in previous years because we've been spoiled by the national TV coverage. But Monroe is on to something -- no excuses -- we should be more excited for OHIO FOOTBALL!

Yep, I ordered tickets from Ohio ticket office, and they're GA.

The injury list appears to be short. Tony Stephens will have knee surgery and is out for the season. Wood will have shoulder surgery, and is also out for the season. Everhart is out for a few weeks due to appendicitis. There are a lot of others with small dings, but I presume all will play, at least some.

Hopefully we'll get Game Notes soon, and then we'll see the real depth chart. Here's my best guess from media comments, but on some positions I may be way off:

LT - McQueen, Lowery, Adams
LG - Lucas, Everhart
C - Powell, Williams
RG - Pruehs, Gibbons, Langenkamp
RT - Watson, McCray, Murdock
TE - Mangen, Morgan, Henry
QB - Vick or Sprague, Windham
RB - Brown, Edmond or Patterson, Irons
WR - L. Smith, Bradley, Walker
WR - Cope, S. Smith
WR - Cochran, Brunis, Reid

CB - Bass, Layton, J. Brown
CB - Wells, Brunson, Terpin
SS - Kristoff, Macer, Alexander
FS - Ingol, Davis, Quallen
Nickle - Carpenter, Scipio, Jones
MLB - Russell, Grillot
WLB -  B. Brown, Polling
SLB - J. Johnson, Moore, Daugherty or W. Johnson
DE - Basham, K. Smith
DE - Laseak, Sayles, Smart
NG - Crutcher, Tautuaiki
DT - McLeod, Purdum, Davis

K - Yazdani, Amicone
P - Bonnstetter, Green
LS - Chapman, Shaffer
H - Bonnstetter, Vick

I'm not even going to try to guess who might return kicks and/or punts.

Holy cow College Football Season is here!!!

This Bobcat Team is like not knowing what your Christmas or Birthday present is going to be.

I really hope that we get a pony, a four wheeler, or even a BB gun and not a tie, a lump of coal, or a clearance rack shirt.

Based upon my assessment (I am by no means a student of football) we could have a great season.

That's a good-looking roster when you see it out like that.  If true freshman Pruehs beat out Gibbons (who played in six games last season with one start), he must be a player.  The other four guys on the OL have started multiple games, including the two leaders in pancakes (Lucas and Powell), one of whom was pre-season All-MAC.  The coaches have raved about the talent at RB, WR is always good and it appears the team will have multiple solid if not all-world QB options.  On the other side the defense returns eight starters including its leading tackler (Russell) and sacks&TFL leader (Basham).  The DL has a bunch of playmakers.

I was expecting a bit of a down year due to graduation losses but now I'm not sure about that.  I at least predict a win at Kent.  A road opener with a new QB is probably what the oddsmakers are thinking with Ohio +3.  But I like Ohio to win by multiple scores.

Interesting quote from Arkley's article today:

Several players said this week, despite the trials and tribulations of two-a-days, they’ve never had more fun during August. Ohio coach Frank Solich said the reason for that goes to the team’s leadership core. He said the difference between 2013 and 2014 was noticeable.

“We didn’t have the spark you’d like to see,” the coach noted. “We have better leadership in this group. I can see that. I’m really pleased with this football team and what they’ve got done.”

This is the third or fourth time I've seen quotes from players and coaches that not only praise this year's leadership but also berate last year's.  I don't know if these are just meant to say that we've moved on to a new era of Ohio football, or if they're also throwing last year's leaders under the bus.

Anyway, it's good to see that this year's team is anxious to avoid the letdowns of the past two seasons.  My favorite philosopher said "Half this game is 90% mental" so we might 45% there.

I don't see any reason to think they are "throwing last year's leaders under the bus". I see these kind of quotes as praise for the current leaders, and don't need to go further than that. Many people were not happy with the results last year, but there is no reason to go there. Instead let's focus on what this team can do, and get behind them. When a team has unity, and a good attitude, they will be easy to root for.

Solich and Tim Albin bear a good bit of responsibility for last year's leadership issues, IMO.  TT belonged on the sidelines following a few of his stunts yet they let it continue.

How about that Irons guy? Have you heard about this kid Basham? I heard last year's seniors left with the most wins ever. This Lucas kid might be the next great Ohio lineman. You know I heard they found a way to get about a weeks worth of extra snaps into the fall camp.  .....

Groan...again the absolute refusal to allow for any legit criticism.

How does solid recruiting meet the argument about failure to deal with apparent TT problems last year?

If you are going to go sky-high on a recruit who hasn't played yet, oughtn't you allow for PG's legit comments about a linebacker class that had about no other D1 offers?

I don't remember if it was the last game in Kent or the one prior, but all fans were in the West (home) stands, as no one was there (Black Friday at 11am) and it was about 20 degrees with a solid 20 MPH wind blowing out of the west. Everyone in the joint jammed in about 3 sections on that side to avoid the wind.

A better answer is that, while they bear responsibility for the fact that the results were not as good as some hoped for, they also deserve credit for doing well enough to continue the bowl streak. Had they taken a different course, the results might have been better, but they also might have been worse. Similarly they deserve some of the credit for the apparent unity of this year's team. Had they taken different action last year, those actions might have created wounds that could have carried forward and affected the unity of this team.

I don't think much is to be gained by second guessing what happened last year. Instead, let's look forward to a good year this year, and let's judge the program on it's long term successes or failures, and not based on individual decisions.

Go Bobcats! Crush Kent...they have it coming.

L.C. You might want to keep the top of the pitcher covered. We have not had the first snap and we already have one or two who feel compelled to p@@ in the Kool-Aid.
