Does anyone know if TWC has changed their rules regarding ESPN3? It used to be if you had internet, but not a cable package, you couldn't get ESPN3 games. If that is still the case I am S.O.L.

Last year, you could still watch through the MAC website.

Yes, I know the answer as I recently checked into it. TWC has no plans to ever provide ESPN3 to internet customers. The reason is that they fear the loss of cable customers, so they want to force people to subscribe to cable if they want sports.

Say what??? The only non-espn sites I saw posted on here last year were the pirated sites. How does the MAC site work, if it still works? Do you pay them on a per game basis, or monthly basis, like years ago when it was Mac-Access? I haven't seen many games since ESPN3 started covering the games.

I found out through Jeremy Guy as I was complaining about the TWC issue. I have DirecTV and AT&T for internet so I get blacked out. But the games were available free on MAC-Sports.com. I think I had it on all the game threads last year. Definitely for basketball.

Yeah MAC sports was definitely my fall back last year. I have DirecTV and TWC internet so I will be doing that again this year.

I noticed DishNetwork has gotten on board with WatchESPN. I wish DirecTV would do the same.

Regarding the game:

I don't know if people realize how big this game is for Ohio. I'm just going to come out and say it: this is a must-win game. Sure, it's the first game of the year. Sure the team doesn't have to be great the first game in order to be a great team down the road. That's all well and good, but if Ohio loses this game, they've got an up-and-coming SEC team on the road followed by a team that is being picked to possibly win double-digit games, maybe even go 12-0 and is a rival. This isn't a schedule anyone should be happy about to start the year.

Say what you want about being ok with Ohio if they end up losing this one to Kent and all is not lost. I won't be. They have owned Ohio the last few years and it's getting really frustrating. Kent's program isn't Ohio's. Ohio shouldn't be losing to them regularly and repeatedly. And 1-2 (assuming Ohio loses the other two games) is a heck of a lot easier to come back from than 0-3.

The good thing is I think Frank knows exactly how big this game is. He knows what's at stake in these first three weeks. He's been here before. Go out and get this W and then we'll brace for impact against UK and Marshall. If Ohio comes out like gang busters and beats Kent say, 27-10, I will relax a little bit.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but this game is huge. Ohio needs this W.

I'll have what he's having...

If we win by that margin, I might lose my mind. I'll be happy with 28-27 in 2OT!

My buddy is a season ticket holder for Kent. I am attending their "meet the team" day tomorrow. They have season ticket holders and a guest come out to the stadium, meet the players and coaches, participate in drills, eat free food, tour the facilities and have other games. It sounds cool. I'm looking forward to sacking Reardon.

I underestimated how bad Ohio has been against Kent State recently. Since 2000, Ohio has only won six games in the series and the last time Ohio won two in a row was 2005-2006. Time to get off the mat and punch Can't in the mouth. What are we down to? 10 days? This thread should be blowing up soon.

With the tragic death of Jason Bitsko, I retract that forecast. It will likely be a tough, emotionally charged atmosphere, much like the EMU game last year, and much like Ohio, after the death of Marcellis Williamson, in April of 2011.

Come on.

Well, Monroe, it's not Penn St and it's not L'ville.  Kent as the first game doesn't have the anticipation level that the past two seasons did.

Plus, for the first time in three or four years it's really tough to gauge what to expect from the Ohio football team.  I'm looking forward to getting the season going.  But I really don't know what to expect.

I think this is exactly the problem. That, plus the fact that a lot of fans were disappointed with the apparent team attitude last year, that soured some on the team and the coaching staff.

On offense, the players are all new names. Ok, the linemen played in some games, as did the Mangen at TE, and Cochran at WR, but the key skill positions, QB, RB, and WR will have a lot of faces that have either not played at all, or have played very little. What should we expect from Dorian Brown, Aaron Bradley, Brandon Cope, Herman Brunis, Cameron Wilson, Cedric Brown, Justin Wyatt, and Jordan Reid? Most of us have never seen them play. What about Vick, Sprague, Edmond, Landon Smith, and Sebastian Smith? While we've seen them, we haven't seen much of them, so add it all together, and we just don't know exactly what to expect.

Defense is a different situation. There are lots of returning players, and few new faces. On the other hand, they are returning from a defense that was not very good. How much good does it do to get everyone back from a bad defense? Ok, Carrie and Hughes are gone, as is Moore, but there seem to be some solid replacements for them, that played a lot. With everyone back, will the defense improve? Of course. The players will be a year older and wiser, and more experienced, and they won't make as many mistakes. The coaches will refine and revise the defensive schemes to try to eliminate the breakdowns last year that led to the defense to give up so many rushing yards. But, in the end, we just don't know what to expect.

So, on offense we have new faces. On defense we have mostly the same faces, but from a defense that wasn't that good. What we also have is a dramatically better team attitude, and improved team unity and spirit. What will it add up to? Will it win back fan support? I think so, and I'm actually very excited to see the team play, but I can understand why that feeling isn't universal.

Go Bobcats!

I've not been able to reply or post for several days.  Not sure if anyone else is having this problem.   My fear is that all the doom and gloom talk earlier in the year has scared some away.   Or maybe, like me, I'm afraid to talk the team up like years past for fear of a repeat performance.
I am cautiously optimistic about this season.  I think the fact that the players challenged the coaches to hold them more accountable and the change in attitude coupled with the fact that we may have one of if not the best defense in the MAC could result in a very very good season....

We just have to get past that first 3 weeks.
