Wonder who will be the next voice. I'm sure there are favorites, but certainly no shortage of those who are interested, qualified, and already have ties to OU
They have a month to figure it out. I’d say put a veteran like Associate AD like Amy Dean in charge and let her lead the search committee. Been around almost 30 years, she’s got to have her pulse on the situation.
There's a guy (pretty sure his first name is Matt, blanking on the last name) who does a solid job covering sports in Dayton, more TV reporting but he's called at least high school football for that station, plus he's an OU grad. Wonder if he'd be interested or is it a different setup between TV and radio?
Barnes?

He's one of the lead anchors here in Columbus. He's currently in Paris covering the Olympics for NBC.
I don't think so, Barnes does mainly news in Columbus. The guy I'm thinking of does mainly sports in Dayton
Noonan? He calls most of the non-money sports at Cincinnati currently.

Matt Noonan would do well in the job

Sad news. He really gave us a voice in sports when the media was lacking in the early 2000's.

Really enjoyed all his segments. He will be missed for sure.

Perhaps a possibility in Dan Schwartzman as a replacement? He’s worked at NYC’s ESPN radio affiliate and had a syndicated talk show with Amani Toomer on NBC Sports Radio. I believe he’s floating around in sports media or marketing lately. OU grad and has done some play by play. I believe had a show on 970 back in the day. Always a challenge in getting anyone 25+ YO to relocate to A-town.

Lots of stories and nuggets, but no clear indication of what's next other than he plans on staying in broadcasting. Reading between the lines, I'm left to gather that it was probably time to move on from Athens from a personal standpoint.

Is it possible the choice wasn't his? The university has been known to do strange things like the firing of Coach Hunter after a 19-11 season, or the hiring of Brian Knorr.

He is now the voice of Gamecock basketball and baseball! Called a Final Four in basketball.

Agreed SBH, he did a great job, and back before streaming he had the Cats on over 30 stations in all parts of Ohio and our own tv broadcast.

I don't think I have the exact wording correct, but I always loved how he began broadcasts with "From the banks of the Ohio to the Shores of Lake Erie, this Ohio Bobcats......."

Season starts in a week.....any information about who is going to be the new Voice of the Bobcats? Was it buried in a podcast I missed?

Haven't seen an official announcement on the VOB but someone named Sam Hyman is hosting the Tim Albin Show: https://ohiobobcats.com/news/2024/8/22/football-new-look-...

His current title is "Director of Video Services". He has been with Ohio for about a year and a half.

If it's been posted, I must have missed it, but where has Russ ended up? He did a great job at Ohio, and I wish him success in his years ahead.

Journalism degree from Syracuse and some PBP experience. I have to wonder if he (Hyman) gets handed the job? Russ was just so good. I can't imagine what those initial broadcasts will sound like. The amount of content that Russ created and the interviews etc. The broadcasts were first class. I would hate to see it regress from what he built but I am not sure his quality could be matched initially anyway.
Here is hoping Ohio gets a decent replacement.

There apparently has been a lot of interest from outside parties. Doubt Sam gets handed the job.

He is apparently eithter still looking for a job, or he's decided to take a little time off before re-entering the job market.

That would be par for the course, I heard someone say a long time ago the Syracuse egos in sportscasting are not unlike Notre Dame's in college football (as in "Good grief, get over yourself!")

The one guy I was thinking of is still at a TV station in Dayton, otherwise I'm sure he would have announced if he was offered the gig.

We are getting closer to the possibility of tuning in on Saturday and not knowing who we are going to hear.

Russ and Rob are still featured on the Bobcat Sports Network website. I wonder if Marty will work radio at least this Saturday.

OFFICIAL: Marty Bannister will do play-by-play for 2024 football, Rob is back for color.

The way they worded it, I would assume men's basketball is still TBD and football in future years may be different.

Yes, based on the headline, looks like Marty stepped up and is filling the role...for now.

Russ tweeted that he'll be doing the Western Illinois game broadcast on ESPN+. Maybe a contractor for hire?
