How can anyone expect this team to beat Akron? I'll be there, but I expect to have plenty of room and I expect to leave disappointed.

Akron 31, Ohio 12. Attendance: 19,000 announced (15,000ish actual).

If things continue to hold...Kyle Pohl (Akron QB) will not play. He sat out of practice Tuesday, still with concussion-like symptoms (I believe).

If he is out....I give Ohio a chance.

Offense showed life last week. Were able to move the ball, which was a huge improvement over the CMU debacle. Still....they HAVE to find a way to score TDs. 3, 14, 10, 13 in losses this year. U-G-L-Y.

If OUellette and Daz are closer to 100%, as Frank suggested on Monday, then we should be able to run the ball better.

Sprague showed improvement throwing the ball and mixing in his running ability.

Our defense (other than the first drive and a couple big plays) played decent.

I think this is a winnable game.....

I'll lean 24-21 Ohio.....

But if Pohl plays, I might change my mind.

5 games left on schedule....each one is winnable (I think?)

Especially if Vick returns....

A loss here and bowl hopes look more and more bleak.

Trying to keep the faith

I predicted an offensive breakout last week. In terms of scoring it didn't happen, but in terms of yardage it did. This week I think OHIO will move the ball not only between the 30s, but into the actual End Zone! Therefore, my fearless prediction, reminiscent of a former life (TTT), is:

OHIO 27
Akron 17

I think we'll play a much better game than we did vs BG, but I kinda have a feeling Akron ends their losing streak to us.

I agree - and 21+K will be a good crowd - one of the tops in the MAC for the week. I predicted 26K+ last couple games and was not that far off. This week though with no band day, no Homecoming, recent losses etc., I expect less. Visiting Kronites will be envious (of more than just the attendance).

D1 Hockey vs Syracuse that evening I predict another close to 1K - one of the tops ACHA D1 attendance as well. This team on a roll - best value for the $ sport in Athens.....I love it when we have afternoon football and evening hockey - time for a trip uptown to eat and have a drink between - makes for a great long day trip to Athens. Too bad we don't often have a women's volleyball match option in the mix like that.

I just don't know how to feel about this game, but my brain says, we scored 13 against the worst defense in the country last week. How will we score that much against a defense of actual humans in place of legless robots? At the same time, if we dont' commit a penalty everytime the wind changes direction, maybe we score a few. I'm not ready to predict a win, but maybe the D holds down Akron's backup qb long enough to give us a chance.

24-16 stupid zippy, 16,500 people will swipe their credit cards at the concession.

I agree it about volleyball. It has been a couple of years now since their was a volleyball match after the football game ended. Hockey is always great after the game. If the rink is open before the football game it might be a good idea to buy your tickets then, especially if there is bad weather Saturday.

A quick run through the seating chart shows about 5400 tix left, which means about 18,600 sold. Don't know if everybody who buys will show, but there'll likely be 20,000+ announced.

Against MAC opponents:

OHIO 11th of 13 in rushing average per game of 130+
UofA #1 giving up a stingy 77 yards a game

OHIO ranked 12 of 13 in sacks allowed at 2.67 per game
UofA ranked #1 in sacks, averaging 6 sacks a game.

We had MACtion against Temple and exciting games with big crowds 4 & 5 seasons ago and bowl games too! How in the heck does a team like Akron who has had 3 coaches in the past 6 years and no fans at games and a dismal record wind up with more talent in 4th and 5th year players than OHIO?

If OHIO does not keep Akron below 18 points on Saturday the Bobcats will not win. Time for the OHIO defense to pitch a first half shut out--do not let the Zips score before half. Defense, it's up to you!

THIS ^

And "We" can't wait for the band to get back into their seats after kickoff to make some noise (assuming 'Kron has first possession). Act like we are a "football school" - know what it takes to make "home field advantage" matter - NOISE when the opponent has the ball (not when we do). No sputtering start of "OU - O Yeah" when 'Kron has the ball - "Need Wall Of Noise" - "OOOOHHH". We don't need 35K seat stadium and 12K empty seats - We need 20K that act like they know what Home Field Advantage is. "OU - O Yeah" during breaks - and certainly not when we have the ball....

On another thread someone suggested that the FBall coaches might need to learn how to build excitement from OUr last 3 BBall coaches with recruits. OUr FBall crowds (22K avg lately) certainly need to learn from the BBall crowds (7.5K avg lately) about what Home Field/Court advantage means (and why it's still pretty clear that we are a "BBall school"......)
