Garry E. Hunter, Athens City Law Director in 2005 published "Athens County: The Second Century, 1905-2005 with the help of many others to celebrate the bicentennial of Athens County. The book is 310 pages 9"x12" 800 Limited Edition Copies. (mine is copy 397) 16 chapters. Chapter Two, Atĥens (City) is what may be of interest here. Among other things is a list of all businesses on Court Street with business there in 1940s and what was there in 2005. 63 S.Court, 1940s Logan,s Book Store, 2005 Follet,s Book Store. Interesting note, the basement was The Varsity Inn where Sammy Kay got his start.
I remember walking by Logan's in 1950 on way to Chubb Library when I was in high school and buying college books in 1953.

Very interesting. Given that the location is identical, this seems to refute what bobcatgirl1982 posted, that Follet's opened it as a brand new store in 1952, and that it was not an acquisition of an existing "Logan's Book Store".

Perhaps I need to rescind my admission of error here. When I read bobcatgirl1982's post, it looked like she had facts and all I had was my very fallible memory. Perhaps, I don't need those new memory modules I ordered from amazon after all! :-)

You can just buy your books directly from Mike Johnson and Turney Duff, noted OHIO authors.

If any of you here haven't bought and read from Mike and Turney, then you are deficient.

If there are any other OHIO authors, please chime in..let us know about your works!

Time out Monroe- the premier yearbook company in the country - Taylor Publishing at the time, Balfour publishing today, printed that Athens book. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Lisa Eliason on that publication. Learned quite a bit about Athens County during that project.

Yep, we are. I remember it well when OCF was off on the windjammer whale oil tender/scow. Got to use his log cabin loft.

Who cares about what an off-campus store displays in their windows? What really needs to be done is to find a way to stop people from wearing ohio state gear to Bobcats games.

p.s. The bookstore has always been owned by Follett, even when it was called Logan's.
Agree completely. It's really disgusting and disturbing when anybody wears red osu stuff into our stadium. A person walked up the steps into our reserved section yesterday. They should be banned at the gate - no - WAIT! - we could use their money - they should be charged a NUISANCE FEE OF AT LEAST $25.00 for each piece of red stuff they're wearing.
GO BOBCATS!!

Well, here's a link to a photo of Logan's Bookstore from 1946, a long time before it became part of the Follett's chain. This photo was supplied to me by JB, a frequent lurker and occasional poster on BA.

Do the words Greensboro or Montgomery mean anything to you?

Still waiting for the name of that third library too.

+1

You might add the apartheid sanctions against South Africa, the march on Selma and the Anaconda Plan to the list as well -- just to name a few. [Though the Anaconda Plan was only part of the overall strategy that insured a Union victory, I had to add one item from the late insurrection to retain my street creds here on BA.]

I already mentioned that there was a library in Cutler back when oldkatz and Ephraim Cutler were students. So maybe there were four. ;-)

Not on College Green but in my student days there was a sizable branch library in Jeff Hall. I worked there. Not a bad gig - checking out books for the Jeff girls.
