I usually go into Follett's first because the crowds aren't as insane, but yesterday they had no fewer than three ohio state football themed books in their window display facing union street.

Dead to me.

I always go to College Book Store anyway. Better selection of stuff and their prices are better.

College Book Store is where it's at. Loyal supporters of Ohio University, their one and only.

You'd never see Marshall themed books in the window.

(Insert joke here)

Take a photo with your phone. Email it to the owner/manager email address. I agree that's an uncool move.

It was much better back in the day when it was Logan's. Much friendlier and more local. It's now part of a chain and shows it.

+1 -- Agreed, it's never been the same since they sold out to Follett's.

Especially on a game day. Like really? Someone please take a picture of this, if it happens to still be displayed, on homecoming weekend and then complain to anyone who will listen at the university.

What books are they?

I'm loving that Bobcat nation is going for a degree of banning books!

Do you actually have any idea what "banning books" means? No one here has advocated banning anything -- just not displaying certain books in a store window.

As I said, a "degree", you are asking that a local store, not sell certain books, you are in effect trying to ban that book from that store. So, how is that not banning a book?

Who said they shouldn't SELL the books. Some folks here were just asking that they not display them in their front store window.

I posted to their Facebook page and got a quick response!

Follett's University Bookstore: Good question, OUcats82. The display includes Ohio State, Michigan, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and of course the Bobcats. It is a football display, and we decided to include all the teams that have a large fanbase in this area. As the largest general book store in Athens, we try to accommodate everyone's tastes. We also never censor our book selection, even if we're BOBCAT all the way.

This should display Ohio, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns, and stop right there.

Who cares about what an off-campus store displays in their windows? What really needs to be done is to find a way to stop people from wearing ohio state gear to Bobcats games.

p.s. The bookstore has always been owned by Follett, even when it was called Logan's.

Eh, what's the big deal? I mean, yes I prefer College Bookstore due to how die-hard the owner is for Ohio, but I wouldn't damn Follett's for displaying Buckeye books in a football display. It's neutral in my book - let them make money.

Plus, those books have been on display for years.

If this is the way Athens booksellers are made to settle on displaying literature featuring a single subject, so be it.

Not true.

After Follett bought the book store for a number of years they kept the "Logan's name." Then after awhile they dropped the name. Before that it was a locally owned store just like the College Book Store.

FYI, and feel free to research it... Logan's University Bookstore opened on 8/1/1952 as one of the first Follett locations in Ohio. The name Logan's was chosen based on the regional familiarity of the name at the time. This was to draw customers into the store.

Follett's Bookstore has always been corporate, and they've also always had a much higher standard of customer service than College or the now defunct Specialty (which was also a corporate store - Owned by Nebraska Book Company).

Logan's and Follett's have always been one in the same. The name change came with a drive for brand recognition by Follett corporate in the 1990s. Though I have no love for Miami University, I will mention that a similar change occurred at the same time with their bookstore. The name changed from "Miami Co-op Bookstore" to "Follett's Miami Co-op Bookstore."

The name "Logan's Bookstore" is still owned by Follett, and can be seen as an alternate name on the Follett's Bookstore BBB page.

bobcatgirl1982:

Well I stand corrected. I was going from memory, having grown up in Athens and having been a customer of Logan's Bookstore back when I was in grade school and high school. I never heard the name Follett until years later. They certainly kept it hid in the early days and most everyone I knew thought it was locally owned.

Speaking of banning tO$U gear - once again saw TOO much of this at the game Saturday. And, as well, hanging PROMINENTLY in the College Book Store - those friggin' "House Divided OHIO/tO$U" banners and shirts. AARRGGHH! I hate that crap. I stand by my position as firm as ever - ANYTHING that plays into tO$U's favor regarding ANYTHING Plays Into Their Favor and TAKES from OHIO - Period...............
