The Bengals played San Diego at Cincinnati back in the late 70's or early 80's and the wind chill factor hit -65. The real tempature was -15-20. Some condo's caught on fire where I lived in N. KY outside of Cincinnati and they burned to the ground because the water literally froze in the air coming out. I went to see the fire and couldn't stay outside more than 15 minutes.

Just looked it up Jan 1982, officially -23 with a windchill of -59 so it has to be pretty damn cold to cancel a game.

I'll never forget that game. For some reason we were on the south green and needed to go the apartment above Baron's. As we passed by McCracken we headed to the music building to get warm. Had we not done that, who knows what would have happened. I've never been so cold.

Notwithstanding the comments about the manliness of those south of I271, there is a difference between a nationally televised NFL playoff game with paid participants and a collegiate contest played by "non-employee", amateur, student athletes.

The players will have heaters and access to layers of gear. (Remember those awesome capes football players used to wear?)

The ADs have to think about the student workers, concession workers, the band, the cheer team, etc. I don;t expect a postponement but the conversation is certainly taking place. Note this morning that the Bobcat Club tailgate is now indoors at the Fieldhouse with the student park and Tailgreat Park is closed. Those are certainly concessions to weather. Level I preparedness?

I can guarantee there are not serious conversations about postponing the game. It's going to be cold, but not arctic levels here...

I got an email before the Buffalo game saying the Bobcat Club tailgate would be in the field house for the final two games, so that was already planned out well before the brutal cold forecast. I expect the game to go on as scheduled, but with an unfortunately small student section.

That said, the attendance is going to be dreadful in the 2nd half. And if the game is not close, especially if we are losing, the people on the field will outnumber the people in the stands.

The wind forecast is down to 8 mph for game time from 20 mph earlier in the day. That helps. Anyone going can see if they can tough it out for a quarter or two. This is the best opponent in Athens since they were last here in 2009 so the weather in that context sucks. Loved that we had WMU, CMU and NIU all on the MAC schedule this year. We will see more of the MAC West once UMass leaves.

If the game is more than 2 scores apart either way look for an exodus.

Finally found this in historical scores...OCF, it was 1975:

11/15 @ Ohio (5-5-1) W 6 5

Bill Hess still coaching, Arnold Welcher the running back and Lillienthal the QB. Couldn't find the box score for the weather though!

Attended the bengals/chargers freezer bowl afc championship with my late dad. Unbelievably cold walking from car to stadium with the wind howling. Sat in the end zone green seats and I remember the bengals would close the big garage doors at field level when they had the ball to reduce the wind. Nice home field advantage! Once in and settled it wasn't too too bad, and walk back to car afterwards tolerable due to a bengals win. I love watching old highlights of that game, brings back great memories. I'm the age my dad was then, not sure how he did it, but as a 15 year old kid it made for quite an experience.

I'll turn nothing in! I'm going. Layered up to the nines and to the point of being unrecognizable as a human being, but going. I sat through the cold as hell Miami finale in 2007 and the Temple clincher in 2009. Besides, if you need a card, you should just turn it in.

I really do hope the students show up and see the cold as a challenge and make some noise. I think what makes this difficult is that it's still Fall term and many of them probably dont even have their heaviest winter stuff with them. That's all the stuff they bring with them after the holidays.

OK, that's what I thought. That was in the time period that I was in far western Kentucky, with two young kids (3 and 2 at that time) and didn't make it to very many OHIO games. In fact, that year I probably didn't make any and had to watch the Prudential College Scoreboard to see if OHIO had won or lost. I did go to Murray State games, but the temperatures there were usually (but not always) warmer than SEO.

Not going to complain about the weather - I'm from Cleveland and attended many a cold game on the lakefront - but I would ask that common sense be applied tonight. Please open up the closer lots to general parking and don't make me unnecessarily park blocks away. We'll be lucky to have 5000 actual butts in the stands.
