The default answer of the defeated is you're too serious. You're taking this the wrong way. You're making this too personal.

As if your posts in this thread weren't serious?

Give me a break old man.

I may stop being critical for a while solely because I'm worried about the effect it's having on The Situations mental health.

I would sit here and become the oppressive minority.I would whine endlessly and accuse every one of being too serious. When they caled my bluff I would call them out for crossing the line, and taking things too personally.

I would spike the ball in the endzone of apathy. And revel in the glory that is a victims mentality. #shameless

situation--Why don't we do this--give me your pw and ID and I'll take your voice in posting for a few days. Everyone would think that's better.

It will also give you more time to play with the ball.

Thank you for your enlightenment. It's a wonder that most of us can find the car, let alone start it occasionally, without your wisdom.

Funny thing is, most people would probably say that you're basically just like me, only with a different point of view.

I'm going to take a slightly different approach to this question. The situation thinks I am Mr. negative, etc. I like to think I use FACTS in my arguments. Facts like we do NOT get enough 3-star recruits to make the next big step. Facts like the last 30+ games and two years have been downhill . Something like 8-7-6 wins. Facts like we DO NOT have the resources to be a Top 40 program. Facts like our ranking this year is about 100 out of 120+ schools. Facts like we are about #6 in the MAC pecking order and we have been as high as #2 recently...that is a decline! The I said 6-6 was better than the 4-8 I thought we would have. How is that negative? I could go on and on but i won't.

You seem to see these as a "negative" attitude toward the University or the FB program or something. I see them as facts. I've been around long enough to know we are light years ahead of where we were. And, I think we can get back to where we were a few years ago. I just hope we do it real soon!

Is it not a fact that it took Bill Snyder 14 years to win his first Conference Championship at K-State?

Is it not a fact that Bill Snyder had back to back losing seasons before he retired at age 65?

Is it not a fact that Bill Snyder's replacement head coach had back to back losing seasons in years 2 through 3 of his tenure?

Is it not a fact that Bill Snyder is now 72 years old, coaching a top 12 team?

Is it not a fact that Frank Solich is a two (2) time Coach of the Year of Bill Snyder's conference, while Bill Snyder coached in the very same conference?

Is it not a fact that Frank Solich has won a Big 12 Conference Championship?

Is it not a fact Kansas State football went 69 years between conference championships?

Is it not a fact, that despite coaching 22 years at Kansas State, Bill Snyder has but two (2) conference championships?

Is it not a fact that some (most?) of our Bobcats under Solich to sign NFL contracts were not 3-star recruits?

Is there not a discussion to be had about negativity standing in the way of "good years"?

The only resource that matters is how much are you willing to pay your head coach. I would maintain that Ohio is a show me school, meaning they definitely won't pay top dollar without a MAC Championship or Sweet 16. Its like a Mountain West school in that regard where they will start a coach at 750,000 but increase for major success. At least that is where we are moving with Solich and Saul both at 550,000. Solich hasn't done anything in 10 years and Saul is in his first season. Saul if he could break through like Shaka I'd expect Ohio would be willing to up his salary to over 1 million or beyond to get him in line with the Top 25 coaches. We were not ready to do that when John Groce made the Sweet 16 and Jim Christian wasn't good enough to justify paying to get him to stay. Are we completely ready now I don't know but the athletic department is moving in that direction with the donor hospitality areas.

They do have to have conflicting beliefs, but I'm not so sure they need to be consciously aware of them. I believe it would still qualify as cognitive dissonance if they subconsciously reacted with emotional discomfort, even if they weren't really sure why. (I couldn't resist, either.) ;)

Its interesting to see that over the past 5 years the best schools in Texas have been Baylor and TCU. Both smaller schools with smaller stadiums. Baylor's coach is the 8th highest paid in the country and TCU is the 19th highest paid. Its not about having the biggest stadium in the country anymore but a willingness to retain great coaches. Could Ohio rise up like TCU and Baylor did and start taking the best recruits in the state? I watched TCU take out Texas 48-10 and that is what I want to see Ohio do to Ohio State someday.

Donor hospitality areas? Wes - I qualify for those and I'm far from a big hitter. Our big hitters are giving $10,000 - $20,000 a year. The kind of stuff you see at TCU and Baylor start with the decimal figure moved one place to the right.

Alan that is where we are now. I'm talking about the future. At TCU and Baylor first you had a rise of private giving for academics and then it translated over to athletics. They are both at just over 1 billion dollars in endowment. Ohio's endowment is about 500 million and Miami's is stated at 530 million. Both schools want to get over 1 billion dollars in the next few years. I don't expect we'll meet TCU and Baylor eye for eye in athletic donations but if the school could do even half as much that would open the door for much higher salaries. The football team would have to get really good first which is no guarantee.
