ESPN doesn't currently reveal viewer numbers from its app for specific games and probably wouldn't in the future. If ESPNU can have numbers in the tens of thousands most games on the app draw in the hundreds, and some even lower than a hundred. Pretty embarrassing for them. I think for most sports the production costs are absorbed by the schools, and many of the costs for football ad basketball (such as Reghi's salary) seem to be paid for by the conferences, which makes it justifiable from Diisney's point of view.
Question about this: I often watch games on Hulu on my computer. It's technically an app. Does this count as a "app viewer" or a streaming viewer? Likewise when I watch via my Roku box connected to my TV Hulu is an app on my Roku device. What category of a viewer and I? I find this separate category of "app viewer" quite puzzling.

Stream views. Have to meet certain requirements though. I think Hulu counts it as long as you watch 10% of the stream but Netflix you have to watch 70-75% for it to count. YouTube is like 30 seconds in a video to count towards stream viewing.

So I’ll be a contrarian. Mid week football for the MAC is not good.

The MAC even with it being the only game in town still gets way less money than everybody else. So what if some dudes in a gym in Pasadena or some bar in Green Bay is watching because there is nothing else on and they want to bet on something . There’s lot of other stuff on, just not college football.

The attendance stinks and there is no logical argument that it is more than the same game would have on a Saturday afternoon.

The lodging/restaurant business loses big time on a weeknight game-does anybody care about that? I just checked a couple days ago, the OU INN had rooms for $168-still available for the EMU game less than 2 weeks out. There’s lot of money out the door.

Folks argue that the parents can watch - well every other game is on ESPN+ so they can watch anytime and much more able to go to a weekend game that’s midweek game(true for us all)

How much does OU lose on concessions, ticket sales and parking for midweek games?

There may be cult followers of MAC football, but the MAC is more of a laughingstock rather than something to be followed with 2000-3000 in the stands if we’re lucky. Do recruits really love to see that. Can that beat a weekend on campus. They sure can’t attend these games.

Lastly, I hear a lot about it opening up the MAC recruiting possibilities. Can anyone honestly say that the MAC has improved since MACtion started? (Even leaving the last couple years of NIL/transfers)

There’s really almost no one on here saying that it’s not a good thing, and I’m having trouble with that. End of rant.
I'm with you colo and I'll be curious to see what happens with the MAC over the next 6-18 months because the current TV deal expires 2026-27. If they want to get a better deal when they go to market, I have to think that adding UMass wasn't the final piece of the puzzle. A UMass beat reporter wrote that the new MAC deal is going to jump from about $800k per school to $2-2.5M per school. I'll believe that when I see it, but if that's what the MAC presented to UMass to get them to sign then OK.

FWIW the Sun Belt is getting a little less than the MAC in it's new deal through 2030-31 to play more of their games on Saturdays (MAC gets $8M per year and the SBC gets $7M). I can't imagine ESPN doubling that just for MACtion.

ESPN and CBSSN aren't the only players anymore. Warner Bros. Discovery has put some games on truTV and the CW Network (NIU-NCSt was on CW a few weeks ago). So far they've focused on ACC, MWC and Pac2 but could be looking to expand If so, that could add to the MAC's coffers.

Ohio can't play sloppy. We aren't that good of a team to turn the ball over and make foolish penalties. It is a conference game in the MAC on the road. Ohio could lose this game if they play like they have at times with sloppy play. Ohio has yet to prove it can play back to back clean games. We didn't exactly blow out Morgan State. We play like the Kentucky and Miami games we can lose to anyone. Can the QB take care of the ball. Throwing 3 picks in one half any team can beat us if that happens. We take care the ball we win. We give it away anything can happen. Kent State has a lot of pride. Hope the Bobcats don't take that record for granted. This rivalry has always been hard fought games. We probably get Kent State's best effort. No team wants to go winless. Liberty lost the Kennesaw State last week. Run it down their throats and not get too cute with the playbook. Get a lead pound the rock take care of the ball and go home.
Well said. Don't underestimate Kent State with nothing to lose. They're gonna come after Parker hard. I think he has another 100 yard rushing game because he'll side-step a lot of the rush, but I bet he takes a higher number of sacks. I'll rephrase, I HOPE he takes some sacks and doesn't try to throw out of it causing turnovers.

If we can run it down their throat, I think we could clear that spread. If we try to be cute - might be a long Wednesday night on a cold day in Kent in front of 3,000 people.
Don't underestimate Kent State??? How can you underestimate something that has zero importance and no value to begin with??? Kent State hasn't beaten an FBS team since 2022! They have only won one game since then and it was an FCS opponent at home. Their 17-game losing streak is 10 more than the next closest team in America. Ohio could win this game playing its entire second string unit for crying out loud.

I think that it is possible that our second team could beat them more than half the time. But I think the smarts out there look at Ohio as about 7 points worse than an average FBS teams while Kent State is the worst team around -28. So we end up about an 18.5 point favorite on the road and that sounds about right. 18.5 is pretty comfortable. But it is far, far from being the sort of upset that just never happens. Favorites in that range will lose something around 8% or 9% of the time.

Should we win, yes. Will I be pretty surprised if we don't, yes. But this is not a total given. If the players assume that this is a win and take this week lightly or go out and commit a bunch of turnovers and penalties then a loss becomes pretty realistic.

x2

You’re acting like I said they were going to lose.

Simply, as bad as they have been - they’ve been able to score the last few weeks. They put 33 on EMU and 35 on Ball State. If they come out balls to the wall, flying around with nothing to lose they could force OU into turnovers. We don’t play well without a lead. It only takes a few lucky deep balls to flip a game. We’re playing for bowl eligibility. Potentially an MACC game. OU HAS TO WIN. That alone will give you some nerves. Where Kent State win or lose - same spot. Playing loose. Cant take chances where we wont. Just playing for pride right now. I expect a slow grind of a game. Those can get away fast if the other team hits even a few big plays.

Do I think they win? 100%

Would I be surprised if they lost? 1000%

Can I foresee a path to a loss? Sure can.

When has Ohio not taken care of business this season? The three losses to Kentucky, Syracuse and Miami were all against teams favored to win. Of course anything can happen but there isn't reason to seriously believe the Cats won't get this one done.

I'd be shocked to see the MAC get that kind of money, even though it's nothing compared to P5. Don't be surprised if someone like the CW comes in. They (CW) are trying to build a sports department. With the combo of over-the-air and a free app, they could actually be really good for the MAC.

Kent has relied on its passing game this season, so our D will need to keep that in check. Last week, WMU held Ulatowski to 12 of 24 for just 114 yds. He had three TDs, but two came late in the game and he threw two INTs and was sacked five times. WMU had a total of ten TFLs and was +3 in turnovers. We really can't take any team for granted but if we play with the energy we had vs Buffalo, this should be an easy one.

At least one of those he had no time to plant his feet and was passing to a flat footed tight end. As well as this game is going for us, Kent State isn’t giving Parker a ton of time in the pocket most of the time. Parker is playing fine, people seem to expect him to be a Rourke brother or Tettleton though.

This is pretty sad. Kent is a good size school. They look like a FCS program right now. The Cats have been merciful with the play calling--this score could be way worse.
