Unless we find a field general it won’t matter who is trying to run the ball. Both QBs so far this year are not the answer. Put in one of the other two who both have the arm to open up the playbook and stop playing around with this idiocy of trying to prove themselves right with the two they brought in from the portal. And get rid of this bizzare offensive scheme that takes up every second of the clock… we are giving defences too much time to get ready in every play…

I agree on the timing on the plays. You need to have snaps at different timing intervals to keep the defense guessing.

By running down the clock it just delays the inevitable...three and out...

ExCat21 probably called it right. After it happened, he said it looked to him like a high ankle sprain. Those usually take 6-8 weeks to heal, unfortunately. That means he will be out at least until Ball State, but he would probably be able to play in the MACC and the bowl game. ;)

Are both starting tackles still out, by the way? I know some complained that Ohio didn't replace the OL very well with portal players, but for me the question is, where is the depth? Ohio only lost a couple of linemen to the portal, and they have a lot of guys that they recruited who have been at Ohio for years.

So far this year, average yards/carry:
Tyus 5.4 (long carry 46)
Hunt 3.9 (long carry 59)
Brune 4.1 (long carry 8)
McCormick 1.0

Where rushing is concerned, getting positive yardage every play is as important as long carries. If you had a running back who made 4 yards ever carry, never more, never less, the offense could never be stopped except by penalties. At the other extreme, making 31 yards on one play, then 1 yard a play for the next 9 plays also will average 4 yards a carry, but you will make only one first down.

If you exclude each running back's longest carry, you get:
Tyus 4.2 yards/carry on his other carries
Hunt 2.7 yards/carry on his other carries
Brune 3.7 yards/carry on his other carries
McCormick has only one carry

One stat I’ve been following this year is TFL by the other team. So far through 7 games, we given up 47 on 449 plays. We given up 16 sacks, so the others are receptions losing yards or running plays. Another stat of interest- we’ve had 14 TO verses 5 for our opposition . Ouch.

The turnovers concern me the most. This never seems to be something that changes midseason. We seem to be one extreme or the other for the year. This year we're the bad one.

I agree wholeheartedly. TFL are a drive killer, as are turnovers. That was what made Kalvin McRae and A. J. Ouellette such key backs. They almost always had positive yards, and almost never fumbled.

If you are speaking of Coach Hayes, it's actually "Three Yards and a Cloud of Dust". Well documented, and the title of a book about Coach Hayes, written by Bill Levy. I have a signed copy if you'd like to read it OCF.

We thrive on long possessions and keeping the ball out of the other teams hands. As a RUN-BALANCED offense, it's not like a video game where you can switch playstyles to RUN and SHOOT, SPREAD, etc. We don't have the personnel to run those effectively (scat backs, etc). I like Pistol and the misdirection built in it. My only wish is that we use the TEs more on misdirection pass plays. It opens up more run lanes on future downs.

It's not like they are just killing time. During long snap count, the QB is surveying the defense, and making a decision about whether to audible into another play that might work better. The fact that they audible as much as they do is part of why a QB new to the system often doesn't become successful immediately.
