He and Miles Cross totally ripped UCLA apart. The announcing crew raved about Rourke’s performance and mentioned OHIO numerous times throughout the broadcast.
My "good for them" still stands. Even if I'm absolutely vibrating with jealousy.

...I tend to think that putting the emphasis on more money somewhere else is overplayed by some on here, but I may be wrong.
You say this, and then you make the exact point that I would make in arguing that money IS an important factor:

I agree that if they are good enough to make the NFL, they would also start at Colorado, or wherever they went. If they aren't good enough to start at Colorado, they aren't good enough to play in the NFL, and no, if they aren't, then more film at Ohio isn't going to help. What I would add is that, if they are good enough to play in the NFL, they would get drafted from Ohio, and we've seen that happen multiple times.

When they move to P5, they will, in most cases, play less, but make more money. They might be moving because the new school has an academic track they are interested in. We've seen people transfer to Ohio for the Sports Management program. But, what's left at the end of the day is "more money".
I’m not exactly saying that money may not be important to some players, but you’re just making my point that money may not be as important as some on here say. I still don’t think it’s as important as you think it is in some players minds. We don’t even know how much money we’re talking about. I’ll put it this way, did every professional decision you ever make depend solely on how much money you could make to the exclusion of every other factor ? I’d presume not., it certainly wasn’t for me. Who knows what the factors were to each player - the coaches, playing time, academic offerings , location etc.?
In Rourkes case you are talking $500k and in best case, you talking $450k difference. What you doing big boy? Turning down the cash to play Morgan State on pay preview?
Of course you’re talking about the best G-5 QB available this time around. Not true for many if the other guys

Starting to get some top 25 votes, have 2 easy ones with Charlotte & Maryland then at Northwestern. Good chance they are 6-0 and ranked against Nebraska.

They took him out towards the end of the 3rd.

He went 16/20 for 250 and 2 TD. Led 7 scoring drives.

Miles led the team with 5 rec.

I know some of you get upset when we talk about former players, but...

Indiana is now 5-0 and ranked #23 in the country. It is entirely plausible they go to 9-0 (and probably in the top 10 just by default) going into Michigan & OSU. My guess is they stumbe once along the way (Nebraska? Washington?)

Kurtis is 8th in the country in QB Rating.

Shed a tear, but Kurtis is throwing darts right now. 14/18 for just under 200 yards and 1 TD to Miles Cross.

Already has more TD for Indiana in 5 games than he did in 11 with us last season.

Love seeing him show out. Definitely hope they roll through the Big18.

So the coaching was bad the year before when he hit every damn throw before being injured?

I don't think he was 100 last year. Missed lots of throws that were completed the previous year. He's healthy and back to his old self

Correct.
He is playing at a level so far beyond where he was 2 yrs ago.
He is playing with a sense of confidence he didn’t have 2 yrs ago.
Best thing Kurtis Rourke did for himself was transfer to Indiana.

You’re right. Logical…Thanks for educating me.
So I guess that our current QB1 should be racking up some pretty serious stats next year since he’ll be older and be more experienced. Can’t wait

A QB doesn't just go from mediocre to great in a single year. They develop and hone their abilities over a long period of time, if they are being well coached. Having watched Ohio football for awhile, under the prior QB coach, quarterbacks showed little, if any, improvement during their years at Ohio. Under Isphording, quarterbacks have consistently improved during their time at Ohio. That doesn't mean that QBs have never had a bad year, as Rourke did in 2023, which I believe to have been related to injuries, but he was clearly improved from being a freshmen to 2022. His brother, Nathan, also improved substantially in his years at Ohio. In fact, if he had any doubts about the coaching at Ohio, would his brother have come to Ohio?

It's nice to see Rourke doing well at Indiana because he's a fine young man, and it's good to see him succeed. We we all hoping that Nathan would make the NFL for the same reason.

The bad thing about Rourke doing well at Indiana is that it highlights that Ohio does have good QB coaching, and that they do a good job at developing QBs, so we may see more teams trying to poach Ohio Qbs in the future. The good thing about it is that it may make it easier for Ohio to recruit quality freshmen QBs. Thus, Ohio may have a revolving door at QB in the future.

Do I expect Navarro to continue to improve as the year progresses? Absolutely. Has he already improved from his early years at Nevada? Without a doubt. His passer rating was about 70 at Nevada, and it's about 150 at Ohio. I don't know if he has another year of eligibility left or not, but if he returns, I expect him to improve.

Similarly, I expect Poulos to improve a lot, and turn out to be a fine QB. What about Wither and Winter? Not having seen them, I don't know their starting point, but I expect them to improve as well during their time at Ohio.

I'm going to say again, the sort of thing I never say, that our offense, returning basically everyone from the #1 MAC offense in 2022, was hurt badly by always doing the opposite on 2nd down as we did on first except near the end if a half or with a huge lead. I know there is far more to calling plays than choosing to run or pass and that generally I'm an idiot, but this single tendency was so strong it was obvious and our opponents all knew it.

Rourke had a bad year in 2023? He was second team all-conference.

As for Navarro improving as the year progresses, it will be hard to tell as he seems hurt. He actually looks like he is regressing if injuries are not the issue. There is really no way to judge his improvement from Nevada (I think you meant UCF) since he barely played there.

Yes, I meant UCF, sorry. Yes, Rourke had a bad year in 2023 by comparison to 2022, and he could easily have been first team all-conference with a better year.

As for Navarro, it's too early to judge whether he improves as the year goes on. I expect him to, but ask me again at the end of the season.

There is no doubt that Rourke has done well at Indiana. In fact, it is safe to say that he increased the NIL money that will be funneled into the portal next year. "We could find the next Rourke! We need to pony up the $$$!"

On the other hand, the many other Ohio starters who went into the portal have not done nearly as well. Cross, also at Indiana, has probably done the next best. Some of the others play a little in most games as a backup, while others play rarely, or not at all. Then, add in the players who, in the portal version of musical chairs, were unable to find a new scholarship to replace the one they voluntarily gave up, and you have a warning sign to those considering jumping into the portal in the future.

I expect to see less players in the portal next year, and in particular, less backups hoping to find PT elsewhere. On the other hand, I expect the best players in the portal to demand richer paychecks.

In 2022 Rouke was 4th in qb rating (167) in the country among the top 50 yardage leaders - his yards were #22. This year he’s #2 in rating. So he’s improved but he was very good in 2022. In 2023 his rating was 132, that was a down year and almost certainly due to an injury. How much of his improvement this year is due to coaching, maturity, talent around him, strength of schedule , etc. will be difficult to prove I would think, but all could be responsible for his improvement. It seems to me that Some on here seem to be saying that it was bad play calling and worse coaching - who can prove that ?
