Not knowing anything about him, Johns doesn't look like he sticks around at one spot for very long and not a good history of being retained either. He was a Broyles award nominee at Duke in 2022. His offenses look to put up big numbers though.
If this is the best outside candidate they can find, I'm even less confident in Lori and Slade than I was before.
Slade's Northwestern teammate who happens to be from Ohio. End of Story. Not what you know but WHO you know.
If Slade hires his buddy along with conducting this witch hunt this is some serious Tom Boeh type stuff. Never thought I'd see it again.

Stony Brook HC Billy Cosh just followed BobcatAttack Twitter account. Don't know if that means anything.
Decent resume.
Can 100% confirm he was a candidate to some degree last year.

Hmm. Billy Cosh and Kevin Johns were both at Indiana the same year, Johns as OC, Cosh as GA.

Could he be coordinator prospect for Johns? Do you leave Stony Brook HC for coordinator spot?

I doubt it, but who knows? He makes $420,000 at Stony Brook. Hauser reportedly makes $250,000 this year. Maybe just interested in following the story.

Looking at Johns, it doesn't feel right.

I would have been OK if Cromer had hired McCollough. I would love to see an internal hire if it can be justified but understand that that might not always be the best move. But here, John's resume doesn't look like a likely up and coming head coach resume. If the hire is just cronyism, that's disgusting. I obviously don't know for sure and would usually be the first to think that the AD likely knows more than us.....but this, if it is true, I have to say, doesn't look right at all.

A lot of people seem to be upset we’re not getting any better external candidates linked to us than Johns but at this point of the year, who is out there that would be available by the transfer portal? I’m not as low on that guys coaching ability as many on here - Riley Leonard was great at Duke with him as OC/QB coach.

However, I do think we SHOULD be able to do better if we were looking for a coach on a more traditional timeline. Smith was fired too late. Unless the rest of the staff was in some way involved in some sort of misconduct that hasn’t been revealed yet, Hauser is the obvious move. He’s been here for our most successful run, players are calling for him to get the job, and if he crashes and burns or kills it and leaves for a bigger job, we’ll have way more good choices on a normal timeline.

Really pleased with the way the defense is playing. I would love to see Hauser as our next HC.

Let's not overthink this. Stick with continuity.

John Hauser.

I have a feeling the players are gonna play hard for him in the Frisco Bowl.
Agree 100 percent!
Agree, agree, agree!

Keep Hauser as HC. And it doesn’t have to be a one-game referendum tonight. My dad used to say “every day is an interview.” What could be a better example of what Hauser could do as the HC at Ohio than what he’s done as the DC the last two years? Win 19 games and a MAC championship. Recruit and sign some of the best recruiting classes in Ohio history. Not a single decommitment in the 2026 class as the interim HC!

The players will play hard tonight because that’s what Ohio football IS. It’s a culture that’s been on display since Frank got em rolling when I was (showing my age) in middle school!!!!

We are 12 months removed from a MAC championship. The school’s first one since my grandpa was in middle school!! LOL! Let’s not throw out the baby with the bath water just because one guy (ALLEGEDLY) did some stuff the president didn’t like. Hire Hauser, win games, repeat.
OR…make it a one game referendum and hire Hauser because of it! Bobcats are playing great!

The announcers are right… Only an idiot would change this culture. Two years in a row you lose a coach have an interim come in and win a bowl game!

If anybody missed it and has ESPN+, you can probably go back and watch the trophy presentation. Sieh Bangura spent some time on the mic to back Hauser and there were multiple chants from the whole team throughout the trophy presentation.

The more I have thought about it, the more I hate the Johns idea. What a terrible look it would be for your first big act as AD to go against the wishes of the current roster and majority of the fan base and bring in someone you would not have even remotely considered if not for your personal relationship. I'll be quite upset if we hire Johns and will lose a lot of faith in Larscheid.

If Larscheid brings in "his boy" Johns anyway after this result, I will easily start thinking twice about Slade's integrity. Seriously.

Agree. And why punish pretty much everyone for what Smith did? All they did was handle themselves with class and put together a great bowl performance.

Pretty big leap to question the integrity of somebody you don't know, isn't it? Especially when you weren't involved in the interview process. There could be tons of valid reasons to hire Johns after interviewing all candidates. Pretty rash to jump immediately to integrity issues with the AD.

No, it's not a big leap to question the integrity of an AD if he can't see what just happened in the Frisco Bowl.

Many people picked UNLV to crush us. That didn't happen. Who gets the credit for that? John Hauser, the rightful next Head Coach.

I know what the word "integrity" is all about. I don't mess around with that word.

If we don’t hire Hauser as the next head coach then I don’t know what our future may hold. The guy is from the area and the players and coaches are actively campaigning for him to get the job. If they hire out of the building I fear the players and coaches won’t respond well and it could blow up everything that has been built the last 4 years.

Agree to disagree. I'd prefer Hauser, too. But the decision shouldn't be made solely based on winning a meaningless bowl game, and acting like any other option is so crazy that it could only be interpreted as a moral failing of the AD is pretty irrational.

I tend to agree with the general sentiment here that Hauser should get the job. The only way I see that not happening is if some of the assistants were enablers in the scandal, which I believe from what sources have told me is much worse than has thus far been revealed. I have no reason to believe that Hauser was in anyway involved. If that was the case, HIRE HAUSER!
