I watched his last two games on TV and he is quite impressive. Congratulations and bring the championship to Athens!

SEO has been blessed to see an excellent HS football team. Athletes who are very athletic and yet very unselfish. So glad that OHIO has Williams and maybe within the next several months a few more. Certainly will change things for Frank and staff.

Tomorrow I only hope that the trophy will come to SEO. I have been here 42 years and this will be a first no matter what happens.

GOOD LUCK AHS

Joe won the Mr. Football award for Ohio. This has been one of those years for the ages for the Athens community.

Wouldn't it be nice if he would re-consider his commit to the school up north, especially in light of the fact that they have five returning quarterbacks next year, including (probably) Miller and Barrett? But then, I don't think someone of that caliber would consider OHIO, even with his Dad here. Just wishful thinking.

Cheering hard for the Bulldogs from here in Cincinnati!

I student taught at AHS and have enjoyed this experience for them. I think this year's seniors would have been in early elementary school or younger at the time though.

Courtesy of Coach Solich. No Solich as coach of Ohio, no Joe Burrows and Trae Williams at Athens High School as their fathers are on Solich's staff. Just sayin'......

Again, congratulations to all of them and good luck!

That is great for Joe, and great for Athens. We're going to head up the road to cheer on the Bulldogs over at OSU in an hour.

Of course it's a long shot for him to be so highly touted and choose Ohio, but I'm not so sure he'll be a lock to stick with the Buckeyes either. He's virtually assured to sit until his 4th year (RS JR) minimum if he goes there, short of a situation where multiple guys go down in front of him. Would be a shame to see another potential star rot on the sidelines, but we gotta remember it's his choice not ours.

GOOD LUCK ATHENS!

To be just a bit more specific re the five OSU QB's on board; probably Miller,
Barrett, and now, Jones.

There's still a chance Burrow goes to OSU for two/three years to experience "big time football" then comes back to finish his career for his dad here right? Right?

I'd take all 3 Bulldog wideouts as well, the twins and Salzman(sp?). They are clutch.

Wow, after watching him for the first time, this kid will redshirt and then probably be starting as a sophomore or junior at the latest depending on what Barrett does.

I've just read the article down here about the Mr. Football award. Wow, what a year for Joe Burrow and Athens High School. But so very sorry to hear that Joe is heading up north for his college career instead of trying to bring success and national attention to his hometown. I still sense an attitude in this thread that some fans still believe that Ohio would naturally be unappealing to a top recruit. Yet for many years now, we have seen that if you are an excellent player in the MAC, you definitely can go on to play on Sunday. And not only do you play, but you can win Super Bowls, be All-Pro, be Player-of-the Year in the NFL, and even be the Number One draft pick in the NFL Draft. It was just a few years ago that eight, count-em eight, MAC alums started at least one game at QB in the same season for NFL teams. Isn't that something for a league that is perceived as being for those not worthy of playing with the best. Despite what MAC alums have done in the NFL, everyone still thinks that if you want to eventually play on Sunday that you must go to a Big 5 Conference school.

when asked why he wanted to go to OSU Joe replied "because I want to play for championships". In spite of everything you just mentioned the truth is FBS operates under Jim Crow and no matter how good a MAC team is they will never ever be allowed to played for a championship. I know it, you know, Joe Burrow knows it. For some kids not having a chance to play for a national title isn't a deal breaker, for Joe Burrow it is.

If I had to guess, I would imagine part of him is disappointed that he couldn't achieve his goal with the home team and his Dad on the sidelines. But, it is what it is.

Paraphrasing Dispatch Bob Hunter, in his column today, Burrow is good enough to play for o$u. Will he see the field with Barrett, Cardale Jones, Torrance Gibson, Stephen Collier (and perhaps Braxton Miller for one more year) is another story.

Let the kid go. But get the kid's head coach to be Offensive Coordinator averaging 58 per game! I know, what would he know about COLLEGE football...

Next year we will see if it was the coach or the athletes.

I grew up in Athens. In the early 90's Ohio had a new coach, and Athens got a new starting quarter back for one year in Bubba Lichtenberg. We went to the state play offs that year (my freshman year). In the three years that followed, I'm pretty sure that Athens won 1 game.

From what I have heard, after this year there is a good chance that Athens could return to that early 90's form (post Lichtenberg).

Great game by the Bulldogs last night!

Do you honestly think they will bench JT Barrett in favor of Burrow? No chance. He could be Joe Montana and he still isn't going to jump such a highly successful and respected incumbent. Mcbin is right that it would appear he won't be the guy for his first 3 years, and meant no offense to Burrow whatsoever.

That being said, he very easily could get 2 years as the starter, which is not a terrible situation.
