Wouldn't be surprised to see Ga Southern and/or the Sun Belt as for a waiver. GSU is in a transition year, so they can't get to a bowl without one. They're the SB champs this year, win or lose vs ULM on Saturday. They win, they're 9-3, 8-0; they lose and they're 8-4, 7-1. And unlike UTSA in its transition year, they didn't load up on 1AA schools. They have a case. SB is loaded with 7-5/6-6 teams, so I think they'd rather have a 9-3/8-4 team represent them in Nawlins or Mobile.

I love all the speculation and the numbers and all that stuff but, even as an accountant, it is making me dizzy!

So, I will just say we beat Miami and by doing so we became BOWL eligible. That is fantastic! Then, I will try to refrain from figuring out what everyone on here is saying and just wait for the official actual announcements rather than rack my brain with all the scenarios that are out of our control.

I'm right with you, Casper. I don't know if they are going to a bowl, and I don't particularly care at this point. They got eligible. They avoided a losing regular season record. They beat Miami. They had a fantastic comeback. They grew up a lot in that game. All that is enough for me, for now. I'll just enjoy it, and wait for the official announcements. If they get a bowl invitation, great. If they don't, they still end on a high note.

I also agree with this. Maybe the rule ought to be that if a team becomes bowl eligible but don't go to a bowl they still get to have some additional practice sessions (not as many as teams going to a bowl but enough to work on some specific areas with returning players) This seems like a reasonable alternative to reward a team for meeting the standard of "bowl eligible".

Sorry if the following has been covered before but has anyone considered the Notre Dame will once again decline a bowl game especially if they finish 7 and 5?

In an odd thought that if a MAC 6-6 team makes it Akron could be ahead of us being they beat Pitt. If they would lose to Kent then they aren't bowl eligible and we would get the nod.
Either way this is a tuff call.
I am pleased at how the boys didn't give up and that at least we did not register a losing record this year.

Our ability and willingness to absorb ticket costs as well as our stature as a large ticket sales school gives us the edge more than Akron's win over a struggling ACC team.

Does the Akron lose help us? After all had they did beat Pitt earlier in the year which was a quality win and I would think that could have put them in front of us.
Thoughts anyone?

Glad that Akron was rendered ineligible by Kent State. WKU's win over undefeated Marshall will make them look more attractive though.

Yes. #1, one less eligible team overall. #2, and more importantly, so long as one of the MAC's secondary tie-ins opens up, we'd be certain to be in.

#3, and this is a long shot, but if NIU wins in Detroit, and either Boise St., Colorado St., or Utah St. lose in the MW championship, NIU could get the access bowl bid....meaning we'd be in regardless of the secondary tie-in.

Wow, is the East really bad or what. Did i see Balls actually beat BG? That means there are probably 5 teams in the West better than #1 in the East. And, did kent really get by Akron thus eliminating them from Bowls. Let me get this straight now Buffs is our biggest challenger? So, we hope kents beats them too? That would make us #6 and one of ONLY 6 eligible MAC Bowl teams? Then, even if Buffs ends 6-6 we completely dominated them. So, maybe the only MAC eligible Bowl team to stay home is O-H-I-O?

Wow...don't know what to say!

Buffalo is ineligible. The Kent game was cancelled so they won't play, and Buffalo had 2 wins over FCS teams so they needed 7 wins total anyway.

With the KSU and Buffalo getting cancelled, the Bulls could not get to bowl eligibility. Even if they had had six wins, they played two FCS teams.

Didn't realize Kent vs Buffs would NOT be played? Also, obviously didn't know they had two FCS wins. So, we are a solid MAC #6...wonder if that gets us a Bowl? Time will tell!

During the regular season, the only East team that won over a West team not named EMU was when UMass beat Ball State. Thus, you have to believe that BG will beat NIU in the championship. It only makes sense in MACtion.

As for Kent beating Akron, I seem to recall them winning their final game in certain past years, to mess up some other team. Fortunately their last game this year was against Akron, not Ohio.

The other thing the Kent win does is make it less likely that Bowden gets hired by some other school this year. That's a bad thing for him as he gambled on transfers to improve quickly, and they will be gone, meaning he has to rebuild.

zips never would have been picked over us. All you have do is look at all those seats at Akron home games and you would why. Thank you Kent anyway.

Wow those final east standings are almost as bad as 07 when Miami won the east at 6-6.

Evidence as to why the MAC doesn't need more than 5 bowls. In an off year you'll be hard pressed to get 6 eligible. It will only be the case more so in the future as a 12 team conference.

Chatting with my OSU alum buddy last night watching Va Tech about how it is ALL about the money. We both agreed 6-6 Va Tech and 6-6 Michigan obviously get in a bowl over us as they are worth more to a bowl than Ohio. We then discussed last year where we went to a bowl over Toledo.
Make no mistake, we are ahead of Akron. Not because of which team "deserves" it more, but because our resources/willingness to use those resources is higher.

I was wondering the same about Michigan. At the same time, for Michigan to even be eligible they would need a huge upset that would likely fuel their spirits...

winning the eastern conference might have cost Miami a bowl bid in 07 as after they lost to central in the championship they were no longer eligible. I don't know if any other teams from the east went to a bowl that year but it certainly hurt Miami.

VaTech won't enter into the equation unless Pitt wins at MiamiF today. Including ND, the ACC has 11 teams that are bowl eligible and 10 bowls. Assuming FSU gets a selection committee slot, that leaves 10 teams and 10 bowls.

Big Tenfinity, on the other hand, already has more teams than bowls, so Mich might make a difference.

The only thing Akron had going for them was their win over Pitt this year. They might get some eyes on the tube, which would make ESPN happy, but they're lucky to get 10,000 to show up for a home game in Oct, so getting a crowd to travel to some place in Texas, Louisiana or New Mexico in December ain't likely.

I think you mean that we need 4-8 Hawaii to beat 5-6 Fresno State, keeping Fresno from being eligible.

Louisville doing us no favors, down 14-0 early to Kentucky. We need Louisville to win to keep Kentucky from a bowl.
