Well, if I'm going to copy an offense I'm going to copy Ohio State Oregon or Florida State or Bama not Troy.
Were you guys watching the Rose Bowl when they followed the Oregon offense with 4 screens - booth, QB, HC, and sideline sign-coaches? It was amazing how fast they were moving. Its truly amazing how fast the Ducks operate.
What amazed me was that Oregon's booth people were calling the next play while a play was still in progress. Both Oregon and Baylor were running plays in the 10-13 second range yesterday, but Baylor had a lot more misfires and negative yardage plays. Oregon I think has better personnel, on and off the field.
I was impressed with Oregon - but, let's be honest Cat-fans, you all have to have a warm place in your heart for Georgia Tech's Flexbone approach, don't ya?

PJ is a damn good person and a great football coach, and he employs a system that gives his school the best opportunity to win.

How about Meyer and OSU, never going under center and gnashing Bamako for most yards on the ground ever given up by a Saban team.
From Saban's point of view, was this OSU offensive scheme to be expected? During the course of the prior 13 OSU games, did OSU use different offensive looks? If so, than what did Saban have to prepare his defense to see, one offense or a multi threat offense? The fact that OSU did it all from no snaps under center may have been a surprise to the defense. When an OSU opponent prepares, they would have to prepare for different schemes and burning valuable practice time to prepare for many variations, when an OHIO opponent prepares, what can they expect with 99.9% certainty?

Not going under center could have cost OSU a crack at the National title. Having to take 3pts when the ball was on the half yard line when play 1 from the gun results in a botched exchange is reason enough to have the ability to go under center especially with a 250lb QB to just push it in.

Additionally, having a 250lb QB is deception that OHIO could try. OHIO could run a series of Wildcat with a former running back turned beefed up linebacker taking the direct snap and smashing the defense for a bit.

Or a 300 lb. D-lineman:

Bigmanz TE too:

OSU never goes under center. And the schemes were largely similar.

I like GT, because Paul Johnson reminds me of a guy who clings to his offense like it's a flip phone he refuses to replace.

“SEE!?! This offense works just fine! You just have to hit the screen a few times with your knuckle before it flickers to life! See! I have midi ringtones and everything!”

And the awesome thing is? HE'S RIGHT!
