Dantonio should get a refund from his BA consultants. You know, run the ball, stop the run, win the game!!!

I know, I'm being Petty..

You left off "don't turn the ball over". Right now the 2 turnovers is the difference.

It is true that they have been working on the rules to give passing teams a better chance of winning than in the past, and passing teams now win much more than in the past. There used to be an inverse relationship between passing success and winning, but I bet that's no longer true. On the other hand, despite more turnovers and less total yards, the team that could run the ball ends with the win, so perhaps there is still some truth in the old adage, so long as everything else is close.

The Georgia Tech/Mississippi State game had a similar outcome, with the rushing team beating the team with more passing and total yards. Wisconsin and Missouri were two other teams that won, winning the ground game.

Yes, you have to run the ball. And how many teams that we have seen run from the spread the I the pro set and using multiple offenses. Why can't our team run more than just one?

I got you on that, 71. Because we're incredibly conservative, orthodox and unimaginative.

Didja see Missouri's onside kick to open the 2nd half vs. Minnesota today. Brilliant call. It worked. Even if it hadn't, it would not have led to much disadvantage. If fact, I'll bet that the Missouri kids were excited as hell to try that such that they got a boost which was there whether the onside kick worked or not.

Of course, all this is not to apply that coaching has anything to do with football from a winning or losing or gaining an advantage perspective. That could never be.

I wonder if some of those running schemes you (and I) would like to see Ohio run require a more experienced offensive line? Perhaps Ohio's coaches thought Ohio's youth and inexperience on the offensive line limited the type of running schemes they wanted to run. I don't know if that's the case or not, just throwing it out there.

P.S. The old fogey/bowl traditionalist in me HATES seeing a non-Big 10 team in the Rose Bowl! I know, I know, this is how the FBS does it now; doesn't mean I have to like it.

I think that most here overstate how difficult it is to install a new offense, or at least a wrinkle on an old one.

This is football, not computer science or engineering.

To go with a two-back set, for instance, might take a few games to get in perfect working order. But I refuse to believe that it's incredibly difficult to change to.

Alternately, staying with what isn't particularly working is brilliant.

It may still be football but these freshmen/sophomores are 18-19 years. I'm not so sure throwing a somewhat complicated, multipage playbook at an 18 year old who has to adjust to life away from home for the first time ever while concurrently handling a college curriculum is as easy as you think.

Its clear, even at a top level that corners have great difficulty in covering a speedy wideout when a QB can put it in the vicinity. Both these teams can pass whenever they need to so, did MSU win because of its running game, down 13 and running little at the end?

The stupid Baylor receiver grabs the tacklers facemask was the play of the game. Even if MSU blocked a short field goal attempt, Baylor would have been able to kill more clock and make the field a bit longer for the outstanding comeback.

FWIW the Big Ten/Pac-Ten exclusive agreement was in effect only during 38 of the 100 Rose Bowl games.

I would certainly say that Baylor's inability to run the ball made them unable to eat clock. They had a 41-21 lead going into the final quarter.

I won't even go back to my comment that FSU didn't belong given their scores the last month.

How about Ohio's surprise onside kick in the East Carolina game, oh no, it can't be a good play because Ohio did it and we have such a bad boring coaching staff- sarcasm alert.

How about Meyer and OSU, never going under center and gnashing Bamako for most yards on the ground ever given up by a Saban team.

Were you guys watching the Rose Bowl when they followed the Oregon offense with 4 screens - booth, QB, HC, and sideline sign-coaches? It was amazing how fast they were moving. Its truly amazing how fast the Ducks operate.

What amazed me was that Oregon's booth people were calling the next play while a play was still in progress. Both Oregon and Baylor were running plays in the 10-13 second range yesterday, but Baylor had a lot more misfires and negative yardage plays. Oregon I think has better personnel, on and off the field.

I was impressed with Oregon - but, let's be honest Cat-fans, you all have to have a warm place in your heart for Georgia Tech's Flexbone approach, don't ya?

I like GT, because Paul Johnson reminds me of a guy who clings to his offense like it's a flip phone he refuses to replace.

“SEE!?! This offense works just fine! You just have to hit the screen a few times with your knuckle before it flickers to life! See! I have midi ringtones and everything!”

And the awesome thing is? HE'S RIGHT!
