Wow, it looks like there's hardly anyone in attendance for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl today. I guess WMU doesn't travel well! :) At least when Ohio went, there were 28,000 in attendance that day. That being said, I'm cheering for WMU.

Speaking of which, Utah State won their 3rd straight bowl today. Their last loss? 2011 to the Ohio Bobcats in the 2011 FIPB.

i think normally a lot of locals come out of watch the Tater Bowl, but when it's cold and raining I don't think many locals will come out for two teams they don't really care about.

At least if you were sitting in the rain you would not have to listen to these clowns on the broadcast. These guys are terrible.

Good point. I muted them half the time. Missed part of the first half when we went to dinner, but in the car on the way there I listened to a little of the game on SirusXM and the radio announcers were much better.

Roger Lewis 137 and two TD's. Our staff of ten years couldn't sell him on our program. A new coach with ZERO years of head coaching at the D1 level could sell his program.

BG with an incredible finish tonight for the win! Falcons lead almost the entire way before falling behind for the first time with about a minute to go then score on a bomb! Nice win for the MAC as WMU lost tonight. I don't think the MAC even won a bowl last year. Congrats Falcons.

You can see the 11th year. BG is clearly more dynamic, more playmakers than us. Add in they get back their starting qb who's quite likely the best player in the conference and the logical conclusion is pretty logical.

Someone tell OCF that he must be seeing a lot of potential, 'cause take away OUellette and our O-fence has shown only the barest trace of playmakers. Nobody pretty consistently getting it done--witness about no one on this board even suggesting that any of our skill players were worthy of All-MAC this past year.

But we are going to mature and dom-in-ate next year.

Lewis is an outstanding player, there is no doubt about it. The coaches did sell him on Ohio, but circumstances caused him to not be available, and during the intervening year there were quite a lot of posts on BA about how unwelcome he would be at Ohio. I know that you weren't one of them, but there were some that didn't want him at Ohio even if he was acquitted.

I wasn't overly surprised when he decided to look around again when he did finally become available.

Wrong, our staff did sell him on our program, he committed to Ohio after his commitment to Ohio State fell through due to concerns about his academic eligibility. Lewis was unable to sign with Ohio on signing day because he was sitting in jail, charged with two counts of rape. He's not at BG because Babers out-sold Frank.

Clearly if this was an Ohio win Monroe's comments would have been quite different, mediocre opponent, poor 2.7 per rush, horrible on third down, etc.

I very, very much doubt that a fan website can influence a player's decision--especially one that has about 30-40 regulars.

Mark--I did not see a lot last year (2013) of BG's qb who was injured in the first game this year and who I assume will be fully healthy next year. But from what I did see, he's easily the best qb in the league. BG appears to be right ready as the clear favorite for the MAC East next year.

Apparently, you cannot tell the difference between a win (BG yesterday) and not a win (Ohio 15-16 in last 31 with about no wins over MAC schools with overall winning records in forever). Or the difference between coming up big in clutch time (BG yesterday) and not (NIU game 2nd half of 4th quarter this year).

Weird thing about BG though. Their defense which was so good under Dave Clawson last year, was terrible under Babers this year, with most of the same personnel. Their defense is a BIG question mark next year.

The Camellia Bowl reminded me of our Tater Bowl win. We led for only 13 seconds of that game. SBama led for about 20 seconds of the CB. The difference was that we led for the right 13 seconds -- the last 13.

Dino Babers is just following the Baylor philosophy: lots of offense, little d. That makes it difficult to win consistently without exceptional personnel on offense. That's not easily achievable in the MAC. I see the East being a three or four-team race next year among Ohio, BG, UMass and maybe Buffalo, although the writers will probably overwhelmingly pick BG next July.

That's extremely true except it's not in at least four ways, any number of which are very meaningful.

1) Babers will doubtless realize that it would be good to shore up his defense and will likely do so.

2) Who says you can't win in MAC very significantly on offense alone?

3) Especially in light of recent events, he has a recruiting advantage that very few head coaches can match--that advantage could be very meaningful for a significant cohort of recruits.

4) He has another recruiting advantage in that he seems to be a really good, winning coach. That is attractive.

At this point, BG's the clear favorite. For reasons.
