Just read that Bates was re-signed late today.  Weird.

Yes, an OL went on the IR so that made room for Phil. IR means that he's out for at least 8 weeks. That's good for Phil.

Yes, but now Seattle has 8 WR on the roster, and only 8 offensive linemen, so there is speculation they will cut a WR or two and add an OL or two. Let's hope Bates sees the field and does some good things before Seattle makes another move.

LaVon Brazill suspension reduced to 10 games (wonder if he will be picked up by team????)

Erik Hermann had his suspension reduced and is now eligible. (Will Giants add him to 53 man roster, practice squad or just release him?)

Lavon is currently playing with Toronto in the CFL, not sure of what his contract states. That being said, cant believe he ever takes a snap in the NFL again. Josh Gordon with incredible talent you are willing to take a chance with, not a small slot receiver like Lavon. If the Giants were going to release Hermann, It would have already happened. Was borderline to make team(53 man roster) outright before suspension, now likely to practice squad.

There were some changes announced to the drug testing, and I presume it affected these suspensions.

Changes affecting Brazill:

The player reps also approved an increase for the threshold for positive marijuana tests. Some players have complained that the NFL threshold of 15 nanograms per milliliter is so low that anyone within the vicinity of people smoking marijuana could test positive. The threshold was increased to 35 ng/ml in the league's proposal.

Changes affecting Herman:

Welker was suspended for amphetamine use in the offseason, but punishment for that is being switched from the performance enhancers policy to the substance abuse program - except for in-season violations.

and for both:
ap wrote:expand_more
Overall changes are retroactive for players suspended under previous policies, as well as for those in the appeal process.

My guess is that his contract runs through the Grey Cup, which is usually around Thanksgiving. By then, there are usually teams that need WR help.

Ten games means the suspension will last until just before Thanksgiving.

He signed to the practice roster in August but has moved up to the active roster, probably because of injuries to the WR corps. The Argos have four WRs on the one-game injured list, so he may be back on the practice squad before long.

With all of these suspensions, the one that is being overlooked by the national media (and experts like us) is the 10 game suspension of Josh Brent.

Brent had a DUI in 2009 and killed his teammate while DUI in 2012. He then breaks parole with a drug violation in 2013. All of this and he only gets 180 days in jail and a 10 game suspension by the NFL.

Note it was OU's own Thom Brennaman who called it out. He also mentioned how out of the Steelers' 53 man roster 13 were either from Ohio or played college ball in Ohio. Including the MAC's Mitchell--Ohio, Dri Archer--Kent, Big Ben--Miami, Brown--Toledo, Gradkowski--BG. and maybe somebody I'm forgetting.

So four games into his rookie season, TJ has a new coach: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24731416/rep...

How unsettling can that be.

Glad they said "TJ Carrie, the rookie out of Ohio."

What you notice is that every time a guy is about to try to tackle Travis he gets two hands on the ball.

Cardinals placed P Dave Zastudil on injured reserve with a groin injury, ending his season. A 12-year veteran who's been the Cardinals' punter since 2011, Zastudil was 13th in net-punting average last season (40.1). Going on 36, Zastudil is under contract for 2015.

That's how he lost his job with the Browns. He got hurt and the new, younger punter had stats that were about the same or a bit better than his. Hope history doesn't repeat itself this time.
