How many people would say to themselves " I am in Athens and I want a good restaurant, maybe I should check Bobcat Attack under the football board?"

I did and do - in fact I used this site to communicate to folks about places to stay and eat in Charlotte when the basketball team played here a few years back.  And I see hotel suggestions are already popping up re: Asheville.  You can go to a random site and look up places to eat and stay, or you can trust the word of folks you know and have something in common - a great use of the internet - just as Al Gore intended.

A lot of visitors. Check the archives. Do you get bent out of shape when people discuss restaurants at away venues, too?

I guess if the Bobcats ever get a game at Youngstown State, I will know who not to ask about a nice pregame spot for a beer & burger.

Thanks Alan, I'd seen that this place was open from a tweet and thought the menu looked good. With your review I'll definitely try to check it out over Homecoming weekend.

I find these statements below (taken from the original post) somewhat in conflict.

Will definitely go back especially considering they'll have live music on a regular a basis including our own Oldkatz and Backwards this Wednesday night.

Disclaimer:  I have no affiliation or financial interest in the restaurant or with the owners or anyone working there.

Yes, what ARE you talking about?  I'm not related to the owner, I don't have any family members or close friends who work there.  "Our own OldKatz" is a regular poster on this board.  He and his band were hired to be the opening night music show.  He is a friend but in this town after 34 years, I'm proud to call many folks friends.

You would think with this board being so "clogged" you wouldn't waste your time on a thread like this.

Its good to see an important storefront on Court Street filled but I'm opposed to once again restarting the location as a bar which excludes the under 21 crowd after 10pm. My vision for that storefront was a restaurant that would stay open until 4 am with an arcade upstairs so students of all ages could drop by after the keggers wind down. Running a bar there with food is also is in direct competition with Pigskin and other places who are already doing it.

My wife and I went there last Saturday for dinner while we were in town for the Athens Community Music Festival.  It was surreal to look around and remember what it looked like as The Greenery.  (Their coctail menu includes The Brainstomper with a reference to The Greenery - a nice touch.)  The place is attractive enough and very clean.  The service was prompt and very polite.  I wanted to like it, but... I thought the food was mediocre at best.  My wife ordered their version of chicken and waffles, which was chicken wings and French toast.  Neither part of her meal was very good.  I ordered a deluxe burger and fries, both of which tasted like mass produced pre-packaged foodservice food.  Not terrible, but nothing at all that would make me want to come back.  I'll stick to the burgers at The Pub.

An arcade?

What exactly do you mean by an arcade?

You know: its a place where you can put an Indian head (penny) in the Victrola and listen to the latest tunes from Vaudeville; its a place where you can go for a malt with your best girl before getting her home to Jeff Hall before 9 o'clock (play your cards right and you might see some knee); its a place where you and your chums can get together to sing baudy songs and drink sarsaparilla and ginger ale until the wee hours

Let's agree to only post football related topics here since camp is now open. This kind of stuff clogs up the site and is not interesting to those who want team and player topics.

My apologies if I offended your sensibilities. To many of us, a sport involves more than just what goes on on the field or court from the first whistle till the final gun. The whole game day experience is a big part of it. Just look at all of the posts about bowl game experiences and NCAA game experiences in Nashville, St. Louis, Providence, etc. Tips on places to eat, places to stay, driving directions and constructions problems are all part of that. For those of us who live here in Athens and see this stuff every day, we could just take it for granted and make our 5 minute drive to the game and park in our usual spot. What we try to do is share relevant information with those fans who have to make an effort to support the Bobcats by driving many miles and hours to the various games. I'm sorry if you feel that that sort of informtion "clogs" up the site.

If I want a good game day experience i know how to find it. If I need a good restaurant in Athens there are probably 50 search sites to find them. If your friends restaurant is any good then he will have good reviews. How many people would say to themselves " I am in Athens and I want a good restaurant, maybe I should check Bobcat Attack under the football board?"
I have been lucky to have great game day experiences in, Athens, Foxboro, Los Cruses, Denton, Memphis, etc, etc. without referring to Bobcat Attack" By the way I live 4 hours away from Athens and see 8-10 games a year in person.
So stop the homeboy stuff and let's stick to our amazing football team and details on their progress.
Are we allowed to post about our Skyline Chili habits?

Here is a test to find out....

I like to get three cheese coneys, with heavy mustard and no onions, and a Dewski. I then proceed to eat off the cheese from the coneys with oyster crackers, making little cheese sammiches. I then eat the chili dogs, with hot sauce. Sometimes with a bib, usually not.

Note that I do not reserve this process simply for Skyline. It is also practiced at Camp Washington, Pleasant Ridge, Price Hill and assorted other locales.

WOw. I have used this board for years for tips from fellow attackers. Got to eat and stay at some pretty sweet places courtesy of BA. Our Rival site Hickory Husker has a whole "away Game" section for hoops guys going to towns in Indiana and wanting a meal pregame that we are constantly adding to with new places and reviewing old. Jeepers. Just skip the thread. It is just weird to have a community of folks that does not share. Those folks who attend football or basketball go for the whole experience NOT just the game. This Community at large is better for the entire experience surrounding following the Bobcats. Lighten up Frances. And cccat...speaking of Charlotte...Tommy said he is now playing with the PG from Winthrop. Interesting first meet... "you're the one....7/11 from 3, I know you" Thanks for showing up pregame. Nice memories

Yeah, I agree.

I go mostly for the football... but my *wife*, a bobcat by marriage only, goes for the "experience", and meeting people, and eating out, and shopping, and all other sorts of things that get in the way of football.

If I can ask a local where to eat, or get a recommendation from someone I half-way trust, I'll take it.

Peace, Love, and Bobcats.

This is exactly the same in my household. We're in the football gamedays for the experience as a whole. What could be better than travelling to a new stadium and campus, and finding the best local place for a good beer and sandwich, pizza, coffee, etc? I just developed a Basketball passport bucket list, and the ones on the top of my list will have to have a fun campus around them. Of course that's for the basketball board, but the local spots to visit should be on both boards.
