The Over Hang is officially open.  It's in the old Blue Gator/Greenery building last night.  Went to Casa for dinner with friends last night and they're closed until Friday.  Walked around the corner and saw that the Over Hang was open so we gave it a try.  The interior construction and woodwork gets an A+.  A local wordworker did it and it is first class.  The service was top notch too.  Very attentive, polite and accurate.  Someone has done a very good job of training these folks and it was opening night.  Sound system is very good too.  Got to like a place that is playing Springsteen when you walk in.  The food is typical bar food.  Had the grilled chicken sandwhich, fries and a side salad.  Only complaint would be since it is August why not use fresh produce (tomato, lettuce, onion) rather than the stuff you get from the big food service companies.  Will definitely go back especially considering they'll have live music on a regular a basis including our own Oldkatz and Backwards this Wednesday night.

Disclaimer:  I have no affiliation or financial interest in the restaurant or with the owners or anyone working there.

Thanks for the update/review. Neat that you were able to stumble upon this place on opening night.

I've stumbled out of that location at closing time way too many times...

took me a second but i got it once I saw their logo with the arrows- over hang, hangover, get it?

Glad to hear the place was renovated but hope they can keep some of that old school charm for us alums. Like, do they play Van Morrison' songs on a loop? are there tables full of freshman girls with 1 upperclassman guy sharing a pitcher of some sort of fruity beverage? does it smell faintly of bleach, barf and sweat? Is there a place for me to stand pressed against other strangers while "It Takes 2" by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock is played at a high volume?

At the very least they should have a vegetarian section of their menu called the Greenery.

Let's agree to only post football related topics here since camp is now open. This kind of stuff clogs up the site and is not interesting to those who want team and player topics.

Common, now. With apologies to Allen Iverson, there's only so much you can "talk about practice"! For those of us that are interested in the entire Athens and gameday experience, I find this to be a plenty worthwhile topic. Thanks for mentioning, Alan!

My apologies if I offended your sensibilities.  To many of us, a sport involves more than just what goes on on the field or court from the first whistle till the final gun.  The whole game day experience is a big part of it.  Just look at all of the posts about bowl game experiences and NCAA game experiences in Nashville, St. Louis, Providence, etc.  Tips on places to eat, places to stay, driving directions and constructions problems are all part of that.  For those of us who live here in Athens and see this stuff every day, we could just take it for granted and make our 5 minute drive to the game and park in our usual spot.  What we try to do is share relevant information with those fans who have to make an effort to support the Bobcats by driving many miles and hours to the various games.  I'm sorry if you feel that that sort of informtion "clogs" up the site.

If I want a good game day experience i know how to find it. If I need a good restaurant in Athens there are probably 50 search sites to find them. If your friends restaurant is any good then he will have good reviews. How many people would say to themselves " I am in Athens and I want a good restaurant, maybe I should check Bobcat Attack under the football board?"
I have been lucky to have great game day experiences in, Athens, Foxboro, Los Cruses, Denton, Memphis, etc, etc. without referring to Bobcat Attack" By the way I live 4 hours away from Athens and see 8-10 games a year in person.
So stop the homeboy stuff and let's stick to our amazing football team and details on their progress.

Geez Ytown, what a bah-humbug!  Somebody piss in your Wheaties?!?  I found the thread entertaining.  For those of us who can only wish we were still in Athens, the story about the Over Hang is great.  In fact, when I'm in Athens next week moving my daughter into her apartment for her last year at Ohio (sniff sniff), I will have to check the place out!  Thanks for the heads up, Alan!

P.S.  And YTown, your logic that one can find plenty of sources on the Internet about dining in Athens also applies to Ohio football, you need only go to OhioBobcats.com, WOUB.org, the Athens News, etc. to find info on Ohio football.  If someone wants to post pertinent info of any kind about Athens or good old Ohio, I say go right ahead!!

How about a new thread for places where we can buy local Athens produce? That seems like it would be beneficial to the Overhang owner and all of us on Bobcat Attack. In particular a Swank approved  location for any of us that may be looking for a freshly picked tomato on game day!
Come on guys it's FOOTBALL season!

get over yourself. this one thread isn't ruining the football board, its clearly titles so you can skip over it if you want. And there's plenty of us that don't get a chance to go back to Athens regularly that would use this Community as a resource for recommendations like which new restaurants in Athens to try.

You don't get to decide how the rest of use this public forum.

I'm not sure I agree 100% with ytown, but I like where his head is at! The man is in game-day shape and its only early August!

On another note - Really? Another cookie-cutter bar/restaurant serving burgers and chicken sandwiches?

You guys know you can't "clog" the Internet, right?

If you don't like it, skip over it. I do it all the time and don't say anything to anyone, and I'm sure no one is offended.

I find these statements below (taken from the original post) somewhat in conflict.

Will definitely go back especially considering they'll have live music on a regular a basis including our own Oldkatz and Backwards this Wednesday night.
