Just an honest question to educate the masses:what were the most egregious things that Hocutt did as athletic director at Ohio?
He turned me into a newt!

I would like a serious discussion of his faults as seen by those who were there. Having never met the guy, I don't know much about him except the cutting sports thing. More insight, please?

Kirby lied to me repeatedly about the situation regarding the sports that were cut. I expressed concern to him about the Rumors that the Track team was a possibility of being cut 9 months prior to the cuts. He told me there was "nothing to worry about".

I reminded him that we had raised an endowment in Elmore Banton's name recently, and could do more if needed.

Fast forward to mobile and the Bowl game the next January. I posed the same question to him about the continued rumors that Track was in trouble. He again said, "nothing to it".

The next week he cuts 4 sports...

He was the AD here when four sports were cut. Personally, I never had any issues with the man. I was president of the Green and White Club at the time and he was very supportive of us. In fact the first time that the treasurer and I met him in his office, his first order of business was to pull out a check book and pay his dues which he did every year he was here. He did a very good job of keeping us informed of what was going on in the department including making personal calls before any major announcement (cutting the four sports, the employee charged with stealing over $30K, the hiring/firing of a coach, etc.). I know some didn't but I trusted what he said.

If he did notify you if upcoming changes, he apparently did not do that to the really angry ones on here.

As I said, at the time I was president of the official booster organization so perhaps he felt an obligation/responsibility to keep us in the loop. I remember the call very clearly. His call woke me up when I was in Dallas for a meeting. That said and like the previous poster, I did not agree with the decision to cut sports and expressed that.

An employee was charged with theft of $30K? I don't remember that. Details?

I think it was the assistant who was pocketing the cash parking fees. Forgot his name, though.

I remember the 'p card' fiasco.

Wasn't there something about this going unnoticed short of someone pointing this out to someone in the dept? I suppose that's possible, but seems like a decent size sum of money when I can't think of too many people in the athletic department that would regularly have a 5 figure expense report.

It wasn't all expenses. Part of it was parking money when they used to charge to park.

It should be noted that Kirby apparently hired the guy who did the stealing, that's not good.

Ah ok. For what it's worth I have seen a parking person take $ from someone this year in what I *thought* was a season pass only lot. I'm guessing that money never made it in the coffers.
