According to the "Sport's Ticker" in today's "The Record",Hocutt has been named to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

Anyone still have Kirby's cell number? Here's a chance to be heard.

Did we let it go when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Might be best to let it go Pete! I thought it was the Japanese that bombed Pearl Harbor, not the Germans.

I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

Ahem, are you too young to have seen or remember Animal House? Some of us more senior alums clearly recall dialogue from that movie.

And that's now two people on this board who have stumbled on this.

If I ever see Kirby again there will probably be a stupid and futile gesture of some sort...

While Lubbock is not quite in a remote corner of Hell, you can at least see it from there....

Mark me as one who is not and never has been a Kirby fan. He was the AD equivalent of Claude Sowle, who made the worst of a bad situation. Dealt a pair of Jacks, he turned it into a pair of 2s.

Very interesting analogy. To refresh my memory on Mr. Pillow, I took a quick glance at his Wikipedia entry. Here's one portion that certainly fits our man, Kirby, if not to a "t," certainly to general level of trustworthiness: "The next night, before the surrender of the fort [Donelson], he also passed command, to which he had just been restored, to Brigadier General Simon Buckner, in order to personally escape with a few aides before Buckner surrendered most of the garrison to the Union Army of Brigadier General Ulysses S. Grant. These actions sent his military career and reputation into eclipse." He then was later restored to duty, until he was found cowering behind a tree by General Breckenridge during the Battle of Stones River. It never ceases to amaze my the level of educational awareness and instruction that goes on here on BA.

Never liked Hocutt for a number of reasons.
But he did have one positive.
If I remember correctly,he was responsible for bringing back the paw.

Just an honest question to educate the masses:what were the most egregious things that Hocutt did as athletic director at Ohio?

He was the AD here when four sports were cut. Personally, I never had any issues with the man. I was president of the Green and White Club at the time and he was very supportive of us. In fact the first time that the treasurer and I met him in his office, his first order of business was to pull out a check book and pay his dues which he did every year he was here. He did a very good job of keeping us informed of what was going on in the department including making personal calls before any major announcement (cutting the four sports, the employee charged with stealing over $30K, the hiring/firing of a coach, etc.). I know some didn't but I trusted what he said.
