Everson, because he always played to the best of his ability and beyond (110%),

I voted for Tettleton chiefly because of his performance in certain games: come-from-behind win at BG, come-from-behind bowl win over Utah State, come-from-behind win at Penn State, bowl win over LA-Monroe.

I came close to voting for Kareem Wilson because his play, in tandem with Grobe's coaching, was hugely instrumental in lifting Ohio from its Dark Ages.

Too bad many of the "youngsters" on the board didn't get to see Cleve Bryant's heroics during the 1968 undefeated season, especially to his favorite receiver, Todd Snyder. I would probably vote for Tettleton if I hadn't experienced the late 60s.

Since this is favorite. not best, I went with Kareem. Everson and Scott close seconds.

This.
I'm probably a "youngster" that doesn't appreciate how hood Cleve was in his playing days, but I think his QB legacy (fairly or not) is tarnished by, #1, his coaching failure, and #2, by the "Ol' Freak Nasty" allegations.

I'm happy to see the love being shown for my favorite, Kareem Wilson. It'll be a tougher call on some of classmates but those teams remain the ones I enjoyed watching the most.

Dontrell Jackson.

Grobe leaving left a staff with no idea how to use an offense returning almost intact. They frittered away his 4th year to start.

That would be false since Tyler Tettleton did both.

Still lots of time to vote remaining, but the triple option master is pulling away a little bit as all the Solich-era QBs split the vote.

I certainly can't argue about what a terrible coach he was. As for the allegations, I know nothing about them. I just know he was fun to watch.

+1.

It was a magical time.

The convo.

A legit football team that could beat Fiami.

Spring and summer at Strouds Run.

Music at Art Park.

Alas I regress.

Kareem Wilson (12 votes) takes it in a nail-biter over Austin Everson (11 votes), Tyler Tettleton (10 votes), and Cleve Bryant (9 votes).

This is Tettleton's award in a walk if the voting had been done after his Junior year. Surprised at the lack of love for Sammy Shon. His numbers don't look great but it was a different era and he did win MAC POTY in 1981.

Sammy did dominate in the pre-Grobe years, but most voters are younger than that. I think that's a pattern we'll likely see repeated at other positions.

What I know about Shon largely came from this thread:

If the vote was on pure athletic talent and performance on the field, Cleve Bryant would have been the clear choice. But, the standard was "favorite Bobcat" and here it's open season as anyone can have any criteria that they want. I voted for Arthur Carr, who I never saw play because I liked his trailblazer status.

I loved watching Kareem play but he only fit in that offense. He could have played QB in no other. Tettleton pre-senior year could have excelled in any offense that is why he got my vote.
