Picnic with the Pops this weekend ought to be mighty interesting given all this newfound classy material.

The songs making fun of OUr fight song are tame in comparison. http://www.dispatch.com/content/downloads/2014/07/Investi...

They were practicing at lunchtime today.  Didn't see anyone using a songbook.  Maybe they know them by heart.

A cautionary tale, in my opinion.  This is a black eye, and it it'll be a lengthy recovery.

Actually, outside a few circles in Columbus and "band-dom" no one will, or should care.

My wife called me at work this morning to say it was one of the topics on the Today Show.

Y
ou know, just a few small news outlets.  Shouldn't take long for TBDBITL to shrug this one off.

I'll attribute the Today Show to Lauer able to take a shot at OSU.  The others are simply reporting the news/incident.  The news cycle will pass quickly (except in Columbus and Band-dom) - by next week - or tomorrow if more Longhorns get kicked off their team.  It will not be a "lengthy recovery" because the initial story will not linger.  Nor will people tune into the first OSU game to see if the band "has recovered."  Outside of Columbus/OSU fans, the rest of the country is not even aware or interested in the OSU band, it's dotted I, etc.  (or the marching 110 for that matter).  Band Geeks gone wild -- Don't expect a DVD.

I think this may linger longer then you think.
No one out here in N.J. ,except maybe some die hard Rutgers fans know or care about OSU.
But this story has been all over the news today,in part because of the "titilation" factor.
The brother/sister lap dance has been harped on by every commentator.
If it was only hazing it would most likely go away quickly, but this goes a lot deeper then that.

This certainly died the quiet, no one cares death.

Maybe on this board, but certainly not in real life.

The more I see and hear about this, the more I think Waters' firing was a CYA on O$U's part.  BowTie let the stuff go on unchecked for years.  Drake was put in a position of having to do something about it.  Waters became the scapegoat.  Some of the people interviewed during the investigation claim that what they said was only partially quoted in the report or was taken out of context.  Many say that Waters was changing the environment there.  Waters didn't get the nice parachute that Tressel got when he was ousted.  If he's not hired back, Waters will sue, and it'll be ugly for O$U.

He could sue, but I see him losing badly. He got fired and he ain't coming back. OSU fired him because they don't want to headlines coming out that read "OSU facing Title IX lawsuit over alleged sexual harassment by band upper classman, condoned by band director" (a la http://deadspin.com/tulsa-facing-title-ix-lawsuit-over-al...)

Many do say that he was changing the environment. I've also heard it said that he (1) called band members by their (sexually charged nicknames), (2) participated in the "underware only" practice, and (3) was present on band buses when underclass members were being "playfully stripped" by the rest of the band. At this point, he's probably still employable by a university marching band. I don't think he wants those sort of allegations vetted in court.

As with before, this will get quick ink and then fade away - except where they dot the "I" and run from the word "state"
