To steal a page from OUPride: TWBDITL's obsession over this just screams little brother syndrome and does more to make the university look small time than anything OHIO is doing.

A cautionary tale, in my opinion.  This is a black eye, and it it'll be a lengthy recovery.    If I am in a leadership position with the 110, I am right now double checking to make sure there aren't any "traditions" that might cause concern....'cuz reporters will be checking...

I have a couple OSU friends who kinda poo-pooed the whole issue.  Of course, had it been Michigan, they'd have gone berserk with criticism....

And I'd be making doubly sure that there aren't written records of any of these traditions. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

I think the nicknames thing is kind of silly, the fact a girl was made to give her brother a lap dance really disgusting, and the songs simply frightful. Not even that the songs exist, but that somebody typed them all out, and made permanent records of them, without ever considering that, wow, maybe all this brutal homophobia is a bad idea?

Picnic with the Pops this weekend ought to be mighty interesting given all this newfound classy material.

The songs making fun of OUr fight song are tame in comparison. http://www.dispatch.com/content/downloads/2014/07/Investi...

Absolutely!  Beats being thought so little of that we were simply ignored.

I remember a couple the 110 had -- one about O$U and another about Fiami.  I don't recall seeing them written down, but that was 40 ago when it was alright to be politically incorrect and "social media" involved talking face-to-face.

I don't understand the midnight practice in their underwear, especially in this day and age.  My wife theorized that it was some kind of confidence or concentration builder, but how stupid can the director be.

According to the employee email blast I got today (I work at the O A&M Medical Center) their schedule "as it stands" will not be altered...which I take to mean: their schedule won't be changed pending further revelations or controversy

based on some things I heard about and some other things I witnessed first hand during my undergrad days I'll just say that I hope Dr. Suk has been able to bend the culture of the 110 in the right direction over the last 17 or so years that he's been at the helm.

Why is Diamond Ohio on the tOSU band room door. I could be wrong, but don't we own that? From this posted video: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2014/07/24/...

At first when I saw the headlines I was thinking "sounds like your normal weird marching band stuff" but man some of that's weird. I don't get this.

They first did the Diamond Ohio formation in the Late '30's.  The 110 started doing the Diamond Ohio in the mid 1960's.

But Michigan was the first marching band to do script Ohio !

Although, as their former band director Dcotor Woods would always say,Michigan's version wasn't "annimated".

I've been sitting in OSU's Wexner center all morning and they're basically playing the worst tv for this place. They're talking about the OSU band every 15 minutes and then they moved to a story about a doctor shooting a patient in a hospital.

I'll attribute the Today Show to Lauer able to take a shot at OSU.  The others are simply reporting the news/incident.  The news cycle will pass quickly (except in Columbus and Band-dom) - by next week - or tomorrow if more Longhorns get kicked off their team.  It will not be a "lengthy recovery" because the initial story will not linger.  Nor will people tune into the first OSU game to see if the band "has recovered."  Outside of Columbus/OSU fans, the rest of the country is not even aware or interested in the OSU band, it's dotted I, etc.  (or the marching 110 for that matter).  Band Geeks gone wild -- Don't expect a DVD.

Thanks for the clarification. I've just never seen diamond Ohio other than associated with the 110.

I think this may linger longer then you think.
No one out here in N.J. ,except maybe some die hard Rutgers fans know or care about OSU.
But this story has been all over the news today,in part because of the "titilation" factor.
The brother/sister lap dance has been harped on by every commentator.
If it was only hazing it would most likely go away quickly, but this goes a lot deeper then that.
