The game I've had circled all year.

Win and youre in.

The only thing I have to go on this week is the fact we blasted EMU and they snuck away by the skin of their teeth last week.

Toledo: 25 PPG in MAC games. While giving up 22.

OU: 33 PPG, Defense giving up just 15 ppg.

Heres hoping those averages hold, though playing in Toledo just absolutely sucks. And I believe we will be without DJ Walker for a half, right?

I expect them to come out slinging. They're up against it for the MACCG, it's their Senior Night, and they would probably love to be the first team to score a first-quarter TD against Ohio this season. The team needs to be ready to go from the opening kickoff. No time to settle in.

This Toledo team isn’t the same type of animal it’s been the last couple years. They aren’t bad, but they’re not great either, they’re decent. They lost at Buffalo (a team Ohio blasted) and BG handed it to Toledo in the Glass Bowl. They also came one pass breakup away on a 2-point conversion to losing to EMU, the same team Ohio throttled last night. They did beat Miami but that was before Miami finally got untracked. It should be a good game but I’ll moneyline Ohio in this one and I expect Ohio to duplicate what BG just did up there to Toledo and walk out of the Glass Bowl with a big win.

As I've said in other related threads, my money is on BGSU. Who knows on any given Saturday (or Tuesday, or Wednesday), but BG is, IMHO, the best team in the MAC. Take a look at their two close loses to TAMU and PSU. And, whenever I watch them, they just pass my "eye test" as a quality football team.

Walker will be out unless the NCAA overturns that targeting. It is a thing that happens a few times a year.

I won't say win in you're in. Don't take a win against Ball State for granted.

Walker would miss only the first half if the targeting is upheld.

One thing in Toledo's favor is an extra day or two for prep. They played Tuesday, while we played Wednesday and will travel next Tuesday.

Our first game at the Glass Bowl since 2016 (a win) and just the second up there since 2007.

Is it an NCAA decision or one made by the conference?

I believe a recent similar situation involving an o$u player resulted in the conference overturning the ruling and the player not having to sit out the first half of the next game.

I won’t look ahead, but Ball State has the leagues leader in passing yards and TD’s (and interceptions), that game will be high scoring-will be interesting to see if we can keep up.

I don’t think any game is a lock. Especially not in November. Luckily, OU seems to be figuring out how to mix in plays and try different things that are working. Defense is playing their best ball. Two months ago I never would’ve thought that. Giving up an avg of 8 points the last 3 games is tough in any league. Just hope they keep it up. Keep building. Don’t give up the dumb loss.

I believe that the 2016 win was the first OHIO W in Toledo since 1967, my senior year. Let's start a winning streak at Toledo and turn those negative Toledo vibes into positive ones.

The appeal is made to the national coordinator of officials, who I presume works for the NCAA. See the end of this article: https://ftw.usatoday.com/2024/08/college-football-rules-w... .

I could not find the appeal mentioned in that article, but it was hard to read with all the ads popping up all over the place. This one should be easy. It's got to be overturned or the whole appeals process is a shame.

Yes, that is correct. We won our last trip to Toledo in 2016. Prior to that we had lost 16 in a row with that last in 2016 being a longer drought than the MAC Championship drought.

I think Toledo is rightfully the favorite. That's because they are at home and have a fairly normal home field advantage and not because we ar 1-16 in our last 17 up there. Oddsmakers obviously believe that these two teams are almost exactly dead even and if we were at home we'd probably be about a 2.5 or 3 point favorite. We have close to a 50/50 chance to win. I have not looked at the stats but I'd say we have fumbled more than most FBS teams. There us a good chance at rain. Tyus, Navarro, and everyone else can't let that wet ball slip out.

But I'd be interested to know why those that argued that Buffalo had no chance in Athens because they were 1-14 in their last 15 in Athens aren't arguing that this is equally hopeless for the same reason.

This game is closer than a lot think. Toledo's run game is not as great as most years and Gleason has been running QB draws to pick up first downs to continue drives.

We have to pressure Gleason on early downs and then mix zone/zone blitz on later downs.

Our offense is simple. Ground and pound until their safety Max Hooken starts lurking in the box. Then it's "clap clap" go deep.

I know we are an inside zone-run team but outside zone would work well on Toledo's front four. Pre- snap motion plays should also be considered this week to see how the Rockets adjust mid-play.

It’s an NCAA decision made by Steve Shaw and his office. All targeting are reviewed mid week. Upheld rate is VeRY VERY high.

Their predictions (sorry guys lol)

17-14 Toledo
24-20 Ohio (he says hes joking)
20-17 Ohio
21-12 Toledo

It's supposed to be cold and a 75% chance of rain.

Don't they still play on TURF? That shit is gonna be slicker than snot on a doorknob.

ESPN implied score is 23-21 Toledo. OU has only given up more than 20 twice all season, so I feel like some rain is really baked in there.

Considering it's Toledo, still fairly likely score-wise. Probably a low scorer driven by who has the fewest amount of turnovers. Ideally we run it a million times and they can't stop it. OU has had the better offense and defense over the last 3-4 weeks. Just have to hope it continues on the road. If it were at home, I'd probably be certain of a W. On the road... in the rain...

I really hate playing Toledo...

I think the rain eventually stops and OU scores 27 - Toledo can't rally and scores 24.

...

I would say that Ohio has given up 20 or more in half of their games this year. (Syracuse, Kentucky, SA, Miami, and CMU), and that Ohio has lost every time they have given up more than 25. This has not been an Ohio team that wins via MACtion.
