How about having patch on our uniforms that says:

"The Buckeye State's
Oldest University"

They steal our name, we steal their mascot. And that statement is 100 percent true, as Ohio was known as the Buckeye State way before A&M was a gleam in the eye of the General Assembly.

Oh dear, how fun would that be to have on a one time use jersey, like perhaps the "ghost jersey"?

I wasn't thinking of a one-time or special jersey. I'm think of this as something that should be on all football jerseys. Heck, put it up from time-to-time on the scoreboard, make a banner with those words, put it on bumper stickers, etc.

I like the one time idea only because schools tend to hype those jersey releases more, thereby drawing more attention to it. Regardless, I like the idea.

At the very least, this should be a t-shirt available for purchase at some sketchy online print shop.

Brilliant idea! At the very least, you could make a Facebook location that says that for everyone to use.

Decent idea, I'm always down for ways to troll Ohio A&M. It has to be something that doesn't seem petty. Frankly, I like the "MY STATE. MY TEAM."

I don't think we should put a badge of insecurity on our uniforms.

But that's just me.

How's it related to insecurity? It's an in-your-face statement of reality that will make some paranoid A&Mers a little bit upset. It destroys just a little of the A&M story line -- You're a Buckeye by virtue of being an Ohio citizen; therefore, you should root for the Ohio State Buckeyes. They blur that distinction all the time. It's time we claim some of our Buckeye heritage.

This is the thing I will NEVER understand, as someone born in Illinois. It truly makes no sense. If you were born in Columbus and grew up 5 mins away from Buckeyes Field, I can maybe understand. But say you're born and raised in Cleveland or Akron and have no family who attended Ohio AT&T. I just don't understand it.

Chicago is something of an exception because of the sports teams and the huge numbers of other Big Ten alumni living there and the Catholic affiliation with Notre Dame that may not be as strong as it once was but certainly comes out of the basement at the first whiff of them having a good season. Get outside of the Chicagoland area and particularly downstate, and you start to see the same dynamic with U of I as with OSU in Ohio. Hell, Madison's hold on the entire state of Wisconsin is probably greater than OSU's on Ohio. Truck drivers have frickin' Bucky Badger mudflaps all over the state. Iowa--same thing, and they even have another P5 team. Nebraska. Texas has huge numbers of t-shirt alumni. Ohio's not so unique in this regard.

The states with the most FBS schools are:
Texas - 12
Ohio - 8
Florida, California, N. Carolina - 7
Alabama, Michigan - 5
Georgia, Louisiana, Indiana, Tennessee - 4

Of these states, Ohio is unique in having a lot of programs, but having almost all support in the state behind a single school.

L.C., the one big exception is the Cincinnati area. You see much less OSU worship in the Queen City and environs.

As we commented on previously, that Zipcode map has an issue in that it doesn't list UC on it at all. If one were to believe it, UC has no supporters at all, anywhere.

Yes, and I believe that that makes one reasonably question the credibility of the whole map.

I'm sort of with Delete Pending on this one. I think we're more annoying to Ohio State by OUr insistence and protection of the use of the word "Ohio". Given the education I've received on this board about the importance of "Ohio" and it's association with Ohio University, I'm all for stopping OSU from stealing that word from us at all costs. Like Lucky Sparrow, I like "My State, My Team". Wore that t-shirt yesterday as a matter of fact.

I don't see My State My Team as conflicting with this idea, only as a supplement or complement to it. Sort of a reinforcement.

"My State, My Team" was good, but "Ohio: The Bobcat State" was my favorite.

Agreed, both of these I really like. I happen to refer to Ohio as The Bobcat State anyway.

Completely agree here. That map has a major flaw if UC isn't in the top 3 in Hamilton County.

I've thought for the last several years that we should have OUr name, "OHIO", in big letters on the front of OUr jerseys, the way that Texas, Colorado, and Kentucky do.

Disagree. They only do this when UC is good, which for the past decade or so, they have been. If OSU is winning, this city is just like any other city in Ohio. Remember when OSU had their spring game down here at Paul Brown Stadium? Yeah, it was packed. The difference is I think the UC fanbase's inferiority complex is 10x what the rest of the states' schools are.

Of course, if we're comparing Cleveland to Cincinnati, the difference is pretty substantial in OSU garbage being spilt throughout the city.

Come to think of it, which school has been the closest to beating OSU? UC was pretty close back in 2002 (23-19). UC was up 19-14 entering the 4th quarter. Of course, the Ohio game back in 2008 was 26-14. Anyone else come close? Roethlisberger Miami-led squad?

BG 6, OSU 17 -- 1992
BG 17, OSU 24 -- 2003

I was at both games. In 1992 there was a "phantom" BG TD that wasn't counted, though replay (which was not official at the time) showed a clear BG TD, which would have put the Falcons in the lead at that point. Bo Schembechler was doing the commentary and after the replay he said it was a definite TD. It would have really changed the complexion of the game. (Yes even back in 1992 my BG grad friend and I had a portable TV with us in the stands, so we heard Bo's commentary in real time.)

Toledo lost 27-22 in 2011. Toledo had a 22-21 lead until under 4 minutes left in the game.
